Strategy to Tame My Dimwitted Older Sister A - Chapter 32
“Oh my, isn’t this my dear Xia-jie?”
“No wonder you didn’t want to go shopping with us you had a beauty keeping you company! Trading friends for looks, huh? Traitor of the dorm!”
Xu Mo and Lin Fei suddenly popped up from behind like they were catching someone in the act, slapping their hands down on the table where Bai Xia was sitting.
Worried she might scare Chu Nanqiao, Xu Mo quickly explained, “Junior, don’t mind us, just keep eating. We’re only here to talk to Xiaxia.”
Chu Nanqiao hadn’t quite grasped what was happening. Though she had met Xu Mo before and knew she was Bai Xia’s roommate, she had specifically arranged this meal to be just the two of them. Now, with these uninvited guests barging in, Chu Nanqiao felt like murdering Xu Mo on the spot.
But for Bai Xia’s sake, she could tolerate it.
“N-no, it’s f-fine. You’re r-roommates. Th-this is n-normal.”
Xu Mo assumed her stuttering was due to shyness and found it utterly adorable. “Junior, you’re so understanding! But don’t worry, we won’t take up too much of your time. We just need to talk to Xiaxia about something, and then we’ll leave. You keep eating pretend we’re not even here.”
As she spoke, she grinned. Chu Nanqiao seemed to relax a little, even appearing somewhat bashful. “S-senior, wh-what’s y-your n-name?”
It was then that Xu Mo realized Chu Nanqiao’s stuttering wasn’t from shyness but likely due to a congenital condition. Instantly, her heart swelled with sympathy. “I’m Xu Mo—like the ‘mo’ in ‘foam.’ And you?”
Chu Nanqiao silently repeated the name in her head. It sounded familiar, as if she’d heard it somewhere before, but she couldn’t quite place it. She introduced herself, “I-I’m Chu N-Nanqiao. L-like the s-saying, ‘s-south has t-tall trees.’”
“Beautiful name!”
Xu Mo couldn’t help but praise it—though, come to think of it, why did this name also sound so familiar?
And the surname Chu, could it be the one she knew?
Xu Mo looked up and studied Chu Nanqiao carefully. The girl was stunning, more beautiful than any omega she’d ever seen. Not only that, but Chu Nanqiao was even prettier than Li Ai that fierce woman who had zero omega-like qualities. Xu Mo couldn’t stand her.
Wait, why was she thinking about Li Ai all of a sudden? That unpleasant omega was so aggressive, even threatening to hit her! What kind of omega acted like that? It was downright outrageous!
Honestly, compared to Li Ai, Xu Mo felt more like the omega.
She mentally roasted Li Ai at least a dozen times before finally snapping back to reality and continuing her conversation with Chu Nanqiao.
“Junior, with a name like yours, I bet you’ve got tons of alphas chasing after you, right?”
As she spoke, she glanced at Bai Xia, nearly coughing her lungs out in the process.
Bai Xia, thinking she had a sore throat, casually pulled a cough drop from her bag and handed it over. “Stop coughing, or you’ll cough up blood. You were fine this morning, what happened?”
Xu Mo was completely baffled. Was she even coughing?!
Couldn’t Bai Xia read her expression?
Or was she doing this on purpose?
It’s possible. After all, being caught in what looks like a secret rendezvous by your own roommate would make anyone too embarrassed to admit the truth.
“I wasn’t coughing, just had a scratchy throat. I’ll grab some water later. But you…” Xu Mo sidled up to her and whispered, “Xia-jie, care to explain what’s going on here, hmm?”
Lin Fei chimed in, “Yeah, yeah, Xiaxia, this isn’t cool. How could you keep such a good thing to yourself? That’s not how friends should act!”
Bai Xia knew it wasn’t right to invite someone out alone, but Chu Nanqiao had insisted on it being just the two of them. What else could she do?
“It’s not that I didn’t want to invite you, it’s that my junior wouldn’t allow it.”
Xu Mo and Lin Fei’s gossip-loving souls were burning with curiosity. The more forbidden the topic, the more thrilling and tantalizing it became.
“If the junior didn’t allow it, you could’ve secretly told us! It’s not like we’d rat you out to her!” Xu Mo draped an arm over Bai Xia’s shoulder and pressed, “Come on, Xia-jie, spill. How long has this been going on?”
Bai Xia didn’t see any reason to hide it and confessed, “Just the past few days. She asked me to come eat with her alone. I didn’t tell you guys because I was afraid you’d mess things up.”
The two let out a synchronized “Ooooh~” Lin Fei said, “Listen to you, Xiaxia. Others might not know us, but you do. We know better than to interfere in something like this. But seriously, how long have you known each other? You never introduced us to such a gorgeous junior, that’s just not right!”
Though it was true that Chu Nanqiao was stunning and fit the ideal many alphas had for an omega, Bai Xia couldn’t risk introducing her to Xu Mo and the others, not with her past-life experiences. If anything went wrong, the guilt would be unbearable.
For the safety of the entire dorm, it was better to just drop it.
“What’s there to introduce? Don’t you two flirt with other omegas all the time? What’s one more?”
Xu Mo retorted, “It’s not the same! None of those other omegas are as good-looking as this junior! Stop making excuses and just admit it, you’re being selfish!”
This time, Bai Xia really wasn’t making excuses, but she couldn’t explain the whole reincarnation thing to Xu Mo and Lin Fei either. She sighed and gave in, “Fine, yes, I’m being selfish. Happy now? By the way, didn’t you two bolt right after class? What are you doing here?”
Xu Mo and Lin Fei suddenly looked guilty, exchanging glances as they scrambled to come up with a convincing lie.
The truth was, they hadn’t left at all. After class, they were just the first ones out the door. Lin Fei, less of a gossip than Xu Mo, had initially wondered why Xu Mo was up to something like this she had wanted to rush to the supermarket for a sale. But after Xu Mo’s persuasive chatter, her own curiosity flared up, and they ended up tailing Bai Xia to see what she was up to.
To their surprise, Bai Xia had been secretly dating behind their backs and with such a beautiful omega junior, no less! The more they thought about it, the more they felt Bai Xia was being unfair, and they couldn’t resist calling her out.
Lin Fei stammered, “It’s just that the two of us ran into some familiar juniors on the way, and they insisted on chatting with us here. We couldn’t refuse their enthusiasm, it wasn’t like we had a choice, right, Momo?”
“Exactly, that’s what happened!” Xu Mo chimed in. “We were just talking with the juniors over there, and when we looked up, we saw you sitting here with your junior. I thought I was seeing things, so we came over to check!”
“Oh, really?”
“Honest, we’re not lying!”
“Alright then, tell me exactly what you were discussing with those juniors just now.”
“Xia Xia, you don’t trust us!”
If Bai Xia believed them, it’d be a miracle. “I’m not saying I don’t trust you. I’m just asking for evidence. Don’t the police always demand evidence when solving cases?”
Xu Mo quickly changed the subject. “Xia Xia, are you just making excuses to cover for yourself? I get it now this is called ‘protesting too much.’ I’ll tell Xiao Yu later and let her see your true colors, a friend who abandons loyalty for looks!”
Bai Xia knew Xu Mo would pull this trick again. She didn’t want to expose these two in front of Chu Nanqiao, she just wanted to finish her meal with him and leave as soon as possible. Sighing, she said, “Alright, alright, I give up. You’ve confirmed it now, so can you leave? Don’t disturb other people’s meals, okay?”
Just then, Chu Nanqiao suddenly spoke up.
