Strategy to Tame My Dimwitted Older Sister A - Chapter 31
“E-even if that’s the case, you still can’t suspect me like this!”
“I’m not suspecting you!”
“Yes, y-you are! Your expression gave it all away! You definitely are!”
“Hmm…”
Had she been that obvious?
She shouldn’t have been!
But even if she had been seen through, Bai Xia adhered to the principle that as long as she denied it firmly enough, no one would uncover her true thoughts. She would never admit it was what she really felt.
“Chu Nanqiao, junior, you’re being unfair here. My expression has always been like this people who know me well can attest to that. You can’t just pin this on me because you’re upset. Senior here would be very hurt.”
Bai Xia could spin lies effortlessly, without even needing to prepare, and deliver them with a straight face. She was almost impressed with herself.
But Chu Nanqiao clearly wasn’t buying it.
She stared straight into Bai Xia’s eyes, as if trying to pry out some hidden truth.
However, Bai Xia had been reborn once and had experienced far more than Chu Nanqiao could imagine. No matter how hard Chu Nanqiao stared, Bai Xia’s gaze remained unreadable.
“Uh! Chu Nanqiao, junior, is there something on my face?”
Chu Nanqiao finally relented, shifting her gaze away and looking down at the food Bai Xia had ordered for her. She felt an inexplicable bitterness.
Seeing her lower her head in silent frustration, Bai Xia felt a pang of guilt but couldn’t find the right words to say. Instead, she asked, “Chu Nanqiao, junior, is the food not to your liking?”
She didn’t think that should be the case.
The dishes on the plate were all based on what Bai Xia had frequently eaten in her past life. Even if Chu Nanqiao didn’t love them, they shouldn’t be unpalatable.
Chu Nanqiao shook her head. “N-no.”
Bai Xia pressed further, “If not, then why are you eating with your head down like that? You’ll get spinal problems!”
Chu Nanqiao’s grip on her chopsticks tightened instantly. She really wanted to punch Bai Xia, but in the end, she loosened her hold, picked up a bite of food, and chewed sullenly.
She truly couldn’t understand, if Nuwa had created all humans the same way, then logically, everyone’s thoughts and intelligence should be similar. So why did it seem like Bai Xia had been forgotten when Nuwa was shaping people?
No matter how she thought about it, it was infuriating.
But if she were to say Bai Xia was at fault, it wasn’t that serious. To others, this wouldn’t even be considered an issue, making her seem overly sensitive for getting upset over such trivial things.
Yet Chu Nanqiao was genuinely angry. No one had ever treated her like this before ignored, doubted, and treated as if she were air. At home, such a thing would never happen.
Should she give up?
Chu Nanqiao wasn’t willing to.
It was rare for her to meet an alpha who made her heart flutter like this. If she gave up now, she might never find someone who moved her so deeply again.
But if she didn’t give up, Chu Nanqiao felt she might die young from sheer frustration.
“J-Junior?” Bai Xia felt a little guilty. After all, she was the one who had upset her, so she ought to do something to ease her conscience.
“Junior, I’m sorry. My words earlier were inappropriate. Don’t be upset, I’ll apologize!”
Chu Nanqiao raised her head, pouting, and said, “I don’t want your apology! You clearly have no intention of repenting. You just say nice things, but in reality, it’s completely different!”
Bai Xia felt a bit wronged. Aside from this time, when she had deliberately fabricated a lie, she had always told the truth. If Chu Nanqiao refused to believe her, there was nothing she could do about it.
“Then let’s just eat first.”
Chu Nanqiao had expected this outcome and hadn’t held much hope to begin with. She lowered her head and began eating as well.
At this point, Chu Nanqiao truly didn’t know what to do. If Bai Xia remained like this, no matter how she acted or expressed herself, it would all be futile because Bai Xia was simply missing a screw in her head.
Getting Bai Xia to understand what she meant was harder than climbing to the heavens.
Was she supposed to choose the seduction route?
Not that it was impossible. Chu Nanqiao had some awareness of her own beauty, judging by the actions of those fawning alphas.
But then again, Bai Xia didn’t seem the least bit affected by her looks!!!
Chu Nanqiao strongly suspected Bai Xia was a defective alpha. What kind of normal alpha wouldn’t be moved by an omega?
“I have something I want to ask you.”
Bai Xia was chewing on a piece of meat as she replied, “What is it? Just ask, junior. I don’t mind. As long as I can answer, I’ll definitely tell you.”
Chu Nanqiao hesitated before asking, “Are you really, physically, um, okay?”
“…”
Bai Xia was utterly confused. Out of nowhere, why was Chu Nanqiao asking her such a question?
Her physical condition had nothing to do with Chu Nanqiao.
“My body’s fine. The medical report says I’m perfectly healthy. Thanks for your concern, Junior Chu Nanqiao. But—”
Bai Xia paused before continuing, “But why are you asking this? Could it be that you’re the one with health problems?!”
Chu Nanqiao: “…” She really shouldn’t have asked this question!
No, she shouldn’t have opened her mouth to Bai Xia at all!
Chu Nanqiao took a deep breath, trying her best to stay calm. A noble person uses words, not fists. As the young lady of the Chu family, she had to learn to endure.
Don’t get angry, don’t get angry.
No one would take care of her if she ruined her own health.
Chu Nanqiao said, “I wasn’t talking about that. I was asking—”
Asking what? What else was there to ask? Bai Xia was so dense. No matter how she phrased it, she wouldn’t get a clear answer unless she outright asked, “Do you have an omega you like?”
Other alphas were the ones taking the initiative. Why was Bai Xia such an exception?
After some thought, Chu Nanqiao decided to drop the subject. “N-never mind. Let’s just eat.”
Suddenly remembering that tomorrow was the weekend, Chu Nanqiao seemed to have found the perfect opportunity and tentatively asked, “T-tomorrow’s the weekend. Are you free?”
Bai Xia usually spent her weekends doing odd jobs. She wasn’t short on money, but ever since adopting Orange (her cat), her allowance had been disappearing at an alarming rate. Her dear mother had even laid down the law since Bai Xia had insisted on keeping the cat, she had to pay for its expenses herself.
It was fair, and Bai Xia had no complaints.
As for whether to take on a part-time job this week, Bai Xia needed to return to the dorm first to check if the professor had assigned any group projects. After all, academics should always come first during school.
“About the weekend, there might be something, or maybe not, it depends. Why do you ask, Junior Chu Nanqiao?”
Chu Nanqiao replied, “Tomorrow evening my family is hosting a banquet. I’d like to invite you to come.”
But before Bai Xia could respond, a familiar, irritating voice suddenly came from behind.
