Strategy to Tame My Dimwitted Older Sister A - Chapter 29
After class, Bai Xia invited Chu Nanqiao to eat at the school cafeteria.
She had originally planned to go out for a meal, but Xu Mo and Lin Fei were also heading out. The area outside wasn’t that big, and although there were plenty of restaurants and shops, there was no guarantee they wouldn’t run into each other. Bai Xia had always been deeply skeptical about her own luck even when there was a 99% chance of getting a large red envelope, she would inevitably end up with the 1% small one.
Her luck was just that terrible.
Not to mention things like lottery tickets or scratch cards, she had long accepted that she and those things were simply not meant to be.
So after careful consideration, Bai Xia decided that treating Chu Nanqiao at the school cafeteria was the safer option.
Even if Xu Mo and the others saw them, eating together in the school cafeteria was completely normal. But if she invited Chu Nanqiao out for a meal, the situation would be entirely different.
Bai Xia silently praised her own brilliant wisdom in her heart, then took out her phone to check if Chu Nanqiao had arrived yet.
[I’m here. Where are you?]
Bai Xia held her phone and looked around the agreed-upon spot in the cafeteria, but she couldn’t spot Chu Nanqiao anywhere.
[I’m here too, junior. Where are you? I don’t see you.]
Chu Nanqiao didn’t reply immediately. Bai Xia waited for nearly fifteen minutes, but the chat interface remained silent.
Could she have gotten angry while waiting?
That didn’t seem likely.
She had already said she was here, it was Chu Nanqiao who hadn’t replied. That definitely wasn’t her fault!
Bai Xia suddenly felt the urge to back out. For some reason, she had a bad feeling about this like something was off.
Buzz buzz buzz!
Her phone vibrated.
Bai Xia picked it up and saw a message from Chu Nanqiao.
[I’m behind you.]
She turned around, and there stood Chu Nanqiao.
Dressed in a moon-white dress, her long hair braided with a ribbon and draped over her chest, her already fair skin looked even more radiant under the sunlight, glowing with a delicate flush. She was so stunning it was hard to look away.
Bai Xia’s eyes immediately locked onto her.
Truth be told, whether in her past life or this one, she had never considered Chu Nanqiao to be among the exceptionally beautiful omegas. At most, she thought her mixed heritage gave her a more striking aesthetic than the average omega. She had never understood why those alphas were so obsessed with Chu Nanqiao, willing to fight to the death for her. But now, seeing her up close like this, she realized their madness wasn’t entirely unfounded.
“D-do I have s-something on my face?” Chu Nanqiao asked awkwardly, feeling a little self-conscious under Bai Xia’s intense gaze.
She had expected Bai Xia to compliment her on how pretty she looked today, but as usual, Bai Xia proved to be a dense, clueless alpha so infuriating she could practically die on the spot.
“Y-you look decent,” Bai Xia said. “Other omegas dress like this too.”
Chu Nanqiao: “……”
AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
She really shouldn’t have held even the tiniest hope for such a stupid alpha!!!
Chu Nanqiao’s expression darkened instantly. Her lips twitched as she rolled her eyes and replied coldly, “Oh.”
Bai Xia could clearly sense the shift in Chu Nanqiao’s mood, but she didn’t think there was anything wrong with what she said. Why was she getting angry so easily?
Girls who got angry all the time would end up with wrinkles!
But to avoid incurring Chu Nanqiao’s resentment, Bai Xia still asked, “Was there something wrong with what I just said?”
Chu Nanqiao: “…”
If she hadn’t asked, it might have been fine, but now that she did, Chu Nanqiao’s anger meter skyrocketed.
Did she really need to ask that question?!!!
If her body was problematic, fine, but was her brain broken too? What on earth did she even see in Bai Xia, ahhhh!
Chu Nanqiao roared internally in frustration.
Then she arrived at an undeniable truth being ridiculously good-looking really did mean you could get away with anything.
Fuming yet helpless, Chu Nanqiao could only swallow her anger.
Seeing her silent and frowning even more deeply, Bai Xia took that as confirmation her words had indeed been problematic.
“Let’s go grab a good spot first, or else it’ll be crowded later and we won’t get one!” Bai Xia quickly changed the subject.
This young miss’s temper was truly unpredictable. If they kept talking, Chu Nanqiao might not even wait until her wedding day, she might just storm into her dorm with a knife in the middle of the night and finish her off right then and there.
The thought alone sent a chill down Bai Xia’s spine.
Even though they were at school, and as the eldest daughter of the Chu family, Chu Nanqiao was unlikely to commit such a heinous act in public but what if? Impulsive actions like that often happened in the heat of the moment. No matter how strong someone’s willpower was, once emotions took over, even they might lose control.
If Bai Xia hadn’t witnessed Chu Nanqiao silently pulling out a knife at her wedding in her past life, she would never have imagined that Chu Nanqiao was capable of such violence.
A usually quiet and gentle omega, someone so kind even to animals yet she had stabbed a knife straight through her heart.
It just proved that people had their limits. Once pushed past a certain point, even they couldn’t control their actions. Best to tread carefully.
Chu Nanqiao couldn’t be bothered to call out her clumsy attempt at changing the subject. The alpha she had her eyes on, what else could she do? She’d just have to spoil her herself!
“T-then hurry up, let’s go.”
Bai Xia breathed a sigh of relief. She had expected Chu Nanqiao to drag things out like before, but this time was surprisingly smooth.
They found seats in the very back, right under the air conditioning. Most importantly, these were single seats, so they wouldn’t have to share a table with anyone else.
“Junior, what do you want to eat? I’ll go order for you!”
Chu Nanqiao was already upset from earlier, and now everything Bai Xia said just rubbed her the wrong way, fueling her anger.
“J-Junior, junior, is that all you know how to say? D-do I not have a name?!” Chu Nanqiao pouted and snapped, “D-do you even realize how rude that is?!”
Bai Xia didn’t think much of it. She always addressed other juniors like this too. It wasn’t that she didn’t respect them enough to use their names, it was just that she had interacted with so many juniors that she couldn’t possibly remember them all. Mixing up names would be way more awkward.
Over time, Bai Xia had gotten into the habit of addressing all underclassmen as “junior” or “junior sister,” and it had become second nature to her. Now that Chu Nanqiao had pointed it out, Bai Xia herself realized it might not be the best behavior.
“Sorry, sorry, I didn’t mean to, I just—”
Before she could finish, Chu Nanqiao cut her off. “Y-you, you didn’t, mean to? S-so, you did it, on purpose then?!”
Bai Xia was momentarily speechless.
But to avoid any misunderstanding, she quickly explained, “No, no, I really didn’t mean to! I swear! It’s just that so many juniors and junior sisters come to me for help, and I can never remember all their names. I was worried about calling them the wrong thing and making things awkward, so I just defaulted to this generic term. Over time, it became a habit, and now I just say it without thinking. If you feel disrespected, I’ll make sure to add your name next time.”
Chu Nanqiao ignored everything else and zeroed in on one phrase: “so many juniors and junior sisters come to me for help.” Her mood instantly soured.
What was this? Was Bai Xia bragging about how many scheming Omegas had a crush on her?
Well, she had countless Alpha admirers too!
And here she was, an Omega, never bringing it up, how shameless of an Alpha to flaunt it like this!
“I-I don’t, want to hear, about that!” Chu Nanqiao pouted, expressing her strong displeasure. “Y-you, this isn’t, how you, apologize, to someone!”
This wasn’t how to apologize?
Then what was the right way?
Bai Xia was suddenly thrown into self-doubt. “Junior sister! Oh, no! Chu Nanqiao, if this isn’t the right way to apologize, then could you explain to me what the correct way is?”
Chu Nanqiao was at a loss for words.
She hated how dense Bai Xia was! Couldn’t she pick up on even the slightest hint?
Infuriating.
Absolutely infuriating!
Chu Nanqiao was so mad she wanted to stomp her feet right then and there, but they were in a public cafeteria, it would be undignified. So, she forced herself to hold it in.
“T-this, problem, y-you shouldn’t, ask me!”
“But if I don’t ask you, how will I know what’s wrong with my apology? Don’t you think?”
“T-that’s still, your own, problem!”
“I admit it’s my problem, but you have to tell me what exactly is wrong! If you don’t point it out, I’ll never know and keep making the same mistake, right?”
Chu Nanqiao couldn’t find a good rebuttal. If she spelled it out directly and Bai Xia still didn’t get it, wouldn’t she just be embarrassing herself?
No way.
She would never do something so humiliating!
Chu Nanqiao huffed, “A-anyway, this mistake, you figure it out, yourself! I-if you can’t, then, that’s still, your problem!”
Bai Xia was nearly driven mad by her roundabout responses. After scratching her head in frustration, she finally gave up and moved on. “Fine, fine, I’ll figure it out myself. So, Chu Nanqiao, can we order now?”
