Strategy to Tame My Dimwitted Older Sister A - Chapter 24
There was only one class in the afternoon. After finishing it, Bai Xia obediently returned to her dorm and stayed put. She was naturally a homebody unless there was something important, she rarely went out.
But this time was an exception. Bai Xia couldn’t shake off the events of the morning, and even during class, she kept wondering why Chu Nanqiao had suddenly gotten angry. The things she had said were completely harmless Chu Nanqiao was just being overly sensitive!
They say that if a person can’t find the reason within themselves, they’ll inevitably look for it in others. Not only does this provide comfort and satisfaction, but it also conveniently shifts the blame whatever happens, it’s never their fault. Bai Xia suddenly realized that this mindset could indeed help alleviate frustration.
This was definitely Chu Nanqiao’s own issue.
Yes, that’s right, it was entirely Chu Nanqiao’s problem. Bai Xia had been extremely tactful in her words; there was no way she had said anything wrong. It must be that Chu Nanqiao was just too sensitive.
Bai Xia could understand, though. After all, Chu Nanqiao was the eldest daughter of the Chu family, raised in a world where everyone fawned over her. Most of the time, people had to accommodate her, and they only said things she liked to hear. But now that she was out in the real world, people weren’t her parents, why would they only say what she wanted to hear? It was perfectly normal for her to feel upset.
Once she figured this out, Bai Xia’s mood improved significantly. She stopped dwelling on it she hadn’t done anything wrong in the first place. Chu Nanqiao was the one who had thrown a tantrum for no reason. Her reaction was completely justified.
“Xia-jie, what’s up? Why are you spacing out?” Her roommate, Xiao Mei, asked curiously when she saw Bai Xia sitting motionless at the desk, chin propped on her hand.
Bai Xia snapped out of her thoughts and hastily opened her notebook as if to cover up. “I was just thinking about how to handle tonight’s homework.”
Xiao Mei thought for a moment. “What homework for tonight? We already handed it in yesterday.”
Bai Xia: “…”
“Something’s off.” Xiao Mei narrowed her eyes and leaned in. “Xia-jie, you’re acting strange. Normally, you have the best memory in the dorm you can recall things from over a month ago without missing a beat. How could you forget something that happened less than a day ago? This is way too suspicious.”
After saying this, Xiao Mei pressed further, “Xia-jie, have you been hiding something big from us lately? Ever since the semester started, you’ve been out of it always coming back looking preoccupied. Could it be… Xia-jie, are you dating someone?!”
Bai Xia nearly choked on air. She raised a hand to cover her mouth in exasperation. “Stop right there. Can you guys not let your imaginations run wild all the time? I’m not some immortal, sitting around like a monk in meditation. Besides, even though immortals might not have worldly desires, they still have tempers, let alone regular people like us. Isn’t it normal for me to be in a bad mood once in a while?!”
If it were anyone else, Xiao Mei wouldn’t have much to say. But Bai Xia was different she was famously the most cheerful person in their dorm. Whether something was wrong or not, she always had a carefree smile on her face. If someone were to ask when Bai Xia had ever been unhappy, none of them could recall a single instance.
So, this sudden change was way too drastic there had to be something going on!
Xiao Mei said, “Xia-jie, you can tell us if something’s bothering you. We’re so close is there anything we shouldn’t know?”
Bai Xia actually wanted to talk. She had always been the type with a strong desire to share. In her past life, whether it was big or small matters, happy or unhappy things, she would tell her dorm mates. Of course, the vast majority were happy things people generally don’t want to hear negativity.
But something like her rebirth, or the personal grudges between her and Chu Nanqiao, she felt there was no need to share and make others worry for her. Besides, such an unbelievable story probably wouldn’t be believed anyway. Forget about others even she herself often wondered if she was still dreaming. Maybe the so-called “past life” was just a long dream?
But clearly, it wasn’t.
Bai Xia sighed and said, “It’s nothing.”
□□ probed, “If it’s not about dating, then did you two have a fight?”
“The two of us? Me and who?”
“Xu Mo! Weren’t you two talking really loudly at noon? We both thought you were arguing. We wanted to come down and mediate, but we were afraid of making things worse, so we decided against it.”
Bai Xia explained, “She dares to fight with me? After doing something like that to me, she’d better not even think about it, I’d cut ties immediately! We weren’t fighting. Her arranged fiancée came to see me and asked me to pass along a few words to Xu Mo.”
Everyone in the dorm knew about this, including □□. She said, “I heard her family is planning to hold their engagement banquet next month.”
Bai Xia froze. “Next month?! Where did you hear that? Xu Mo never mentioned it to me.”
□□ replied, “Xiaxia, don’t you remember? My family has business dealings with the Xu family. Whenever the Xu’s have a major event, they invite my parents to attend. Xu Mo didn’t tell you not because she was hiding it, but because her family never even brought it up to her. They probably know that whether they tell her or not, Xu Mo has no room to refuse. And I also heard her fiancée is a particularly formidable omega, the kind with a very strong personality. The reason she came back to study at our school was because of Xu Mo.”
“Because of Xu Mo? Don’t tell me it’s to keep an eye on her?”
“Partially, yes. Xu Mo’s fiancée is Li Ai, right?”
“Yeah.”
“My parents told me Li Ai was originally studying abroad and planned to return in five years. But later, for some reason, after finding out her arranged marriage partner was Xu Mo, she immediately booked a flight back without a second thought. Most likely, she wanted to reject the engagement. But you know how it is people from wealthy families often can’t make their own decisions. Everything is for the sake of the family.”
The words sounded tragic, like a puppet whose every move was controlled by the puppeteer. If one day it was no longer favored, it would be discarded. But as Xu Mo herself had said, the life she had now was already what most people dreamed of. To gain something, one must give up something else. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. Those who manage to have both in this world are few and far between you could count them on one hand.
At this point, Bai Xia couldn’t help but think of Chu Nanqiao. Chu Nanqiao was also born into a wealthy family and was an omega would she end up like Li Ai, forced by her family to marry someone she didn’t love?
What’s more, Chu Nanqiao had a stutter. What if her future spouse looked down on her, treated her poorly after marriage, and then cheated with other omegas? What would Chu Nanqiao do then?
