Strategy to Tame My Dimwitted Older Sister A - Chapter 23
In an alpha’s impression, omegas were always gentle and endearing beings. No matter what an omega did, said, or even how they moved, they were the most beautiful existence in the world.
Bai Xia had always firmly believed this until Li Ai appeared and completely shattered her stereotypical view of omegas. For the first time, she realized that not all omegas were soft and cute; some could be downright formidable.
The kind who could kill an alpha with just a glance.
Every inch of Bai Xia’s face and body screamed resistance, but she was genuinely afraid Li Ai might actually lay hands on her. If Li Ai hadn’t mentioned Xu Mo right away, Bai Xia would have thought she was some school gang leader coming to pick a fight.
That aura even Xu Mo would struggle to withstand it, let alone Bai Xia.
“What’s wrong with you?” Li Ai suddenly spoke up.
Startled out of her daze, Bai Xia stammered, “N-nothing!”
Li Ai leaned in closer. “If nothing’s wrong, why are you backing away?”
Bai Xia couldn’t handle Li Ai’s aggressive demeanor, but she couldn’t blurt out her real thoughts either. She had no intention of becoming Xu Mo’s substitute punching bag. If Li Ai got angry enough, she might actually strike and Bai Xia, as an alpha, couldn’t even fight back. If anyone saw her raising a hand against an omega, she’d be publicly shamed by the entire school before the day was over.
“It’s just… alphas and omegas shouldn’t be too close, you know? And you’re Xu Mo’s fiancée. If someone takes a photo and misunderstands, it could affect your relationship. I’d feel terrible, don’t you think?”
“But we don’t have a relationship. It’s just an arranged marriage. Let them take photos, it doesn’t matter. I don’t care, and I doubt she does either.”
Well…
Bai Xia was momentarily speechless. In fact, Li Ai’s reasoning made perfect sense. “E-even if you two don’t care, others might see it differently. It’s better to keep some distance.”
Li Ai couldn’t be bothered to expose such a flimsy lie. She didn’t know why Bai Xia was so afraid of her was she really that intimidating?
But it wasn’t her problem. If an alpha was scared of an omega, that just meant the alpha was useless.
“Suit yourself.” Li Ai stepped back to her original position. “Anyway, tell Xu Mo to behave herself. The engagement hasn’t even happened yet, I don’t want to be labeled a ‘homewrecker’ everywhere. It’s better for both of us.”
Bai Xia nodded vigorously, wishing Li Ai would hurry up and leave. She couldn’t stand being around her for another second. It felt like someone was holding a knife to her throat, following her every move, ready to slit it if she stepped out of line. She didn’t even dare breathe too loudly.
Forcing a polite smile, she said, “Got it! I’ll definitely tell her, don’t worry!”
Li Ai turned and walked away without another word, vanishing from sight in moments. Only then did Bai Xia finally exhale in relief she had nearly lost her soul from fright. Right now, she wanted nothing more than to drag Xu Mo back and beat her up.
But after some thought, she decided to let it go.
Bai Xia sighed helplessly, pulling out her phone with the intention of sending Xu Mo a voice message. But her eyes unconsciously drifted to Chu Nanqiao’s WeChat profile picture still nothing.
From the day Chu Nanqiao added her until now, there hadn’t been a single update. The timestamp remained frozen at the moment they became WeChat contacts. For some reason, that familiar wave of irritation surged through Bai Xia again.
She tugged at her hair, then glanced at the pearl milk tea in her hand, tempted to toss it straight into the trash. But in the end, she couldn’t bring herself to waste it and carried it back to the dorm.
When she returned, Xu Mo spotted the milk tea and immediately snatched it away, her mouth watering. Noticing Bai Xia’s gloomy expression, she asked, “Oh no, who’s upset my Xia-jie this time? Tell me who’s got the nerve, and I’ll deal with them later!”
Mentioning it only made Bai Xia’s anger flare. Her lips twitched before she narrowed her eyes into slits. “Sure. Her name is Li Ai. Go deal with her right now.”
Xu Mo froze for a second, rolling up her sleeves and pulling out her phone to rally the troops. But as she typed the name into the chat, something suddenly felt off.
Sure, there were plenty of people with the same name in the world, but this one was way too coincidental especially since she was at their university.
The more Xu Mo thought about it, the more uneasy she became. She looked up with wide, blinking eyes. “Which characters?”
Bai Xia enunciated each word. “What do you mean ‘which characters’? The surname Li, and Ai as in mugwort. Do you really need me to spell it out?”
Xu Mo’s expression instantly stiffened. Her phone slipped from her fingers and hit the desk with a loud clatter.
The other two roommates glanced down at the noise but, seeing nothing amiss, went back to their phones.
Xu Mo was on the verge of despair. “N-no way. You ran into Li Ai? How? She’s not even in our department, she’s practically a mountain away!”
Bai Xia didn’t even want to talk about it. Rolling her eyes, she snapped, “Well, thanks to you, old friend. You think I wanted to run into her?! Next time, handle your own business with her!”
Xu Mo had a rough idea of what happened and muttered under her breath, “No way I’m going to see her. See? I told you she’s terrifying. Forget building any kind of rapport just standing in front of her makes me feel like I’m freezing. I’m always afraid she’ll get mad and just… slice me.”
Honestly, Bai Xia had felt the exact same way. The empathy was real. But even so, what did that have to do with her?!
She was an outsider! Why was she being dragged into this?!
She didn’t want to become Li Ai’s punching bag, damn it!
“So, you’re planning to hide and let me be the scapegoat, is that it?”
Xu Mo hadn’t actually considered that. Bai Xia was the one person who truly understood her, after all. They say a true friend is hard to find no matter how much of a jerk Xu Mo was, she’d never let Bai Xia take the fall for her. Besides, Li Ai’s issue was with her, not Bai Xia.
“How could you say that? Do you really think I’m that kind of person?”
“Aren’t you?”
Bai Xia shot back, “Should I list all the shady things you’ve done over the past three years?”
Xu Mo herself had no idea how many offenses she’d racked up. If they started counting now, she’d definitely.
It must be too numerous to record, and no one likes to hear about their own dark past. “Xiaxia, I know you’re the best. I admit I was wrong, I promise, she’ll never appear in front of you again, and she won’t bother you anymore!”
Bai Xia eyed her skeptically, then thought back to Li Ai’s attitude at the time, if she could actually keep that promise, it would be nothing short of a miracle!
“I’ve noticed, your words sound sweeter than you’re singing.”
