Strategy to Tame My Dimwitted Older Sister A - Chapter 21
Both of them were lost in their own thoughts, their expressions filled with their own schemes. Yet, to avoid tipping the other off, they each feigned an air of obliviousness.
Bai Xia broke the silence with a cough. “Ahem, ahem, why aren’t you eating? Does the food not suit your taste?”
Chu Nanqiao snapped out of her daze and looked up at Bai Xia, her large, watery eyes darting around, hoping to glean some clue from Bai Xia’s expression. Unfortunately, Bai Xia showed no such tell.
Could it really be that she was just overthinking things?
Well, maybe Bai Xia simply didn’t like milk tea. Perhaps she had originally intended to take it back for her roommate, and it was just a coincidence that Chu Nanqiao had shown up and asked about it. Bai Xia was too polite to refuse.
The joy Chu Nanqiao had felt moments ago plummeted to rock bottom. She lowered her head and began picking at her food half-heartedly with her chopsticks.
Bai Xia immediately sensed something was off. Weren’t you just in a good mood? How did your expression change so fast?
Chu Nanqiao’s mood swings were faster than flipping a page!
“Uh! is the cafeteria food not to your liking?”
“It’s fine.”
Fine?! What kind of answer was that?!
Bai Xia pressed on, “What do you usually eat at home? I don’t think the cafeteria food is that great either. There are some restaurants nearby if you don’t like the cafeteria, you could always eat there.”
Chu Nanqiao still didn’t look up, answering between bites, “During military training. I also ate in the cafeteria.”
Oh, right. Bai Xia mentally kicked herself. A whole month had passed, and she was still asking such a stupid question. What was wrong with her brain?
“R-really?” Bai Xia replied awkwardly. “Well, as long as you’re used to it. Eat more, you’re so thin, a strong wind might just blow you away. You really should eat more!”
Chu Nanqiao’s chopsticks froze mid-air. She looked up sharply, glaring at Bai Xia with anger. ” I’m a dance student! I can’t eat recklessly! Or else I’ll gain weight! Are you doing this on purpose?!”
Oh no. How could Bai Xia have forgotten something so important?
For the first time, Bai Xia wanted to slap herself. “No, no! I swear, that’s not what I meant at all! I just think you’re too thin and wanted you to eat more.”
Chu Nanqiao seemed fixated on this point. After Bai Xia’s explanation, her frown only deepened. “I’m not too thin! This is the standard for dancers! You clearly have a problem with my body!”
Bai Xia hadn’t expected Chu Nanqiao to be so sensitive about her figure even calling her “thin” was off-limits. But she could understand. Quickly raising three fingers in a vow, she apologized, “I swear, I have absolutely no issue with your body. Your figure is perfect better than any other omega I’ve ever seen. Everything I said just now came from the heart. You really are too thin. Maintaining your figure is important, but so is your health. If you starve yourself to the point of getting sick, it’ll be a case of ‘penny wise, pound foolish.’”
Bai Xia had expected Chu Nanqiao’s expression to soften after hearing this. Instead, to her surprise, Chu Nanqiao’s face darkened even further. She shot Bai Xia one last glare before burying her head and viciously stabbing at her food with her chopsticks.
Bai Xia was utterly bewildered. Had she said something wrong?
Probably not.
Wasn’t that how normal people would respond?
“Uh, junior? What’s the matter?”
Chu Nanqiao kept her head down, not saying a word, her mood inexplicably souring. Bai Xia had complimented her figure she should have been happy. But the moment she heard Bai Xia say she’d seen plenty of omegas’ bodies, she felt furious.
So, everything just now had indeed been her own wishful thinking.
That meant this cup of milk tea was definitely meant for someone else.
The more Chu Nanqiao thought about it, the more upset she became. After a moment, she pushed the milk tea back toward Bai Xia. “H-here, take it back. I don’t want it anymore!”
Bai Xia was stunned. She couldn’t figure out which part of her words had upset Chu Nanqiao. “Why don’t you want it? I thought you really liked milk tea?”
Chu Nanqiao said nothing, her head still lowered, lost in thought. Bai Xia’s question went unanswered, not even a peep in response.
People always said girls were hard to read, but honestly, that applied to everyone. Human thoughts were complex, always veering into unexpected directions. Bai Xia racked her brain but couldn’t pinpoint what she’d said wrong. For the first time, she felt humans were truly, extraordinarily “troublesome.”
Not asking felt wrong, but asking yielded no answers. Were all rich young ladies this temperamental?
That couldn’t be. Xu Mo, that troublemaker, aside from being a bit flashy, didn’t have any particularly bad temper. Maybe Xu Mo was just more easygoing and didn’t care about others’ opinions or maybe she genuinely had no temper unless someone crossed her line.
So, why on earth was Chu Nanqiao angry?!
Bai Xia was internally screaming, but she kept her expression neutral. She could only press on, “Junior, once I give something away, I don’t take it back. If you don’t want to drink it, you can give it to your roommate or a friend. Either way, it’s yours now, do whatever you want with it.”
With that, she pushed the milk tea back toward Chu Nanqiao.
Chu Nanqiao muttered sullenly, “ I don’t want it. You take it away!”
Bai Xia was at a complete loss. She decided to just ask directly, “Why are you mad? If there’s a problem, you can tell me. I won’t spread it around.”
Chu Nanqiao glared up at her. Seeing Bai Xia’s utterly clueless expression, she stomped her foot internally. This was, without a doubt, the most oblivious alpha she’d ever met.
Bar none!
Why wasn’t she comforting her yet?!
She was clearly, obviously furious extremely, outrageously furious!
The kind of anger that couldn’t be soothed no matter what!!!
Bai Xia remained puzzled, turning the situation over in her mind but failing to understand which part of her words had triggered such a strong reaction. Those were just polite, ordinary remarks, how had they backfired with Chu Nanqiao?
She didn’t remember Chu Nanqiao being this unpredictable in her past life. Had her rebirth somehow changed Chu Nanqiao into a completely different person?
“D-don’t look at me like that. I’m genuinely asking. If something I said was inappropriate, you can point it out!”
Bai Xia was practically on her knees begging for an answer. She sighed helplessly. “I really didn’t mean anything by those words. If you’re truly upset, just scold me. I won’t talk back, I promise.”
Chu Nanqiao was both furious and helpless. He lowered his head, gripping his chopsticks tightly, his face flushed red with frustration, yet he couldn’t find any reason to scold Bai Xia.
