Strategy to Tame My Dimwitted Older Sister A - Chapter 19
I’m dead, I’m so dead Chu Nanqiao is definitely going to kill me!
Bai Xia was practically dying of stupidity at her own momentary lapse of judgment. She had sworn to herself never to let Chu Nanqiao harbor any resentment toward her no matter who she upset, she absolutely could not upset Chu Nanqiao. And yet, after just half a month, she had already forgotten!
In a desperate bid to avert the impending disaster, Bai Xia pulled out her phone, opened the QR code interface, and handed it over. “Here, scan me.”
Chu Nanqiao was still fuming, her head lowered as she stewed in silent fury. But when Bai Xia extended her phone with the QR code, she froze for a second before slowly looking up, disbelief written all over her face.
Bai Xia teased, “What, don’t want it anymore? Fine, I’ll take it back then.”
She made as if to withdraw her hand.
Seeing this, Chu Nanqiao immediately grabbed her wrist. “N-no, I want it!”
She hastily pulled out her own phone.
Beep!
Once Bai Xia was added, Chu Nanqiao clutched her phone to her chest, beaming like a three-year-old who had just been handed candy. Her eyes sparkled, blinking rapidly, making her look like a delicate porcelain doll.
Bai Xia was somewhat taken aback by her reaction. It was just a contact exchange was it really that big of a deal?
“You’re that happy?”
“Th-thank you.”
“What’s there to thank me for? It’s just WeChat.”
“St-still, I should say thank you.”
Bai Xia had never been one to refuse friend requests. Nearly half the school had her WeChat, but adding her and actually getting a response were two entirely different matters. Some people added her just to harass her, and those got blocked without a second thought.
But she never expected that something as trivial as this would make Chu Nanqiao so overjoyed. Unlike others who only wanted to pursue her for her looks driven purely by hormones Chu Nanqiao seemed genuinely, wholeheartedly happy about it. She even went out of her way to say thank you, which set her apart from most people.
Then again, Chu Nanqiao had been raised in the prestigious Chu family. Her upbringing was likely far stricter than most, so it wasn’t surprising that she placed more importance on manners and etiquette than the average person.
“Alright, now that you’ve gotten what you wanted, can you relax? Not mad anymore?”
Chu Nanqiao shook her head vigorously. “N-not mad… anymore.”
Bai Xia checked the time, it was almost 10 PM. Not too late, but not exactly early either. “If you’re not mad anymore, then hurry back to the dorm and shower. You still have military training tomorrow, so it’s better to rest early.”
Chu Nanqiao nodded obediently and hummed a little tune as she headed back to the dorm.
Bai Xia followed behind her, inexplicably in a good mood.
The only regret was that Bai Xia had assumed Chu Nanqiao would message her that night, maybe strike up a conversation. Surprisingly, Chu Nanqiao did no such thing. Aside from the initial greeting sticker she sent right after adding Bai Xia, their chat interface remained completely silent.
This was just too weird!
Chu Nanqiao had fought so hard to get her WeChat logically, she should’ve at least exchanged a few words with her. So why was there radio silence after adding her?
It didn’t make sense.
It really didn’t make sense.
After showering, Bai Xia sat at her desk, propping her chin on her hand as she stared at her phone screen, utterly baffled.
Xu Mo had just finished washing her hair when she noticed Bai Xia lost in thought. She walked over and sat down beside her, asking, “What’s on your mind, Xiaxia? You seem so absorbed.”
Bai Xia, as if caught doing something wrong, immediately flipped her phone face down and explained, “Nothing much, just some stuff about the new students.”
“I don’t believe that!” Xu Mo pinched her chin and casually picked up the mirror from the table, saying, “Look at your expression clearly troubled. And see that hint of melancholy? If I had to guess, you’re lovesick?!”
Pfft!
Bai Xia swatted her hand away. “You’re the one who’s lovesick! What month is it even? Stop talking nonsense and go do your own thing.”
Xu Mo retreated to her seat, her long, wet hair draped over her back. She didn’t seem to mind the dampness, just casually drying it with a towel before letting it air-dry. “Sorry, Xia-jie, but this child has nothing to do. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have time to gossip here.”
Bai Xia flipped her phone back over. There were no new messages from Chu Nanqiao, so she decided not to check anymore. “Nothing to do? Are you sure you’ve handled everything on your end?”
Xu Mo knew exactly what she was referring to, the mere mention of it made her want to scream. “Xia-jie, I admit I was wrong, okay? Please don’t bring her up. You have no idea, I almost couldn’t come back to the dorm! You might’ve never seen me again!”
“Sounds perfect to me. ‘Wedding night bliss, success in exams’ just in time for the important tests this semester. What a dream come true!”
“Stop teasing me! I swear I’ll never run my mouth again, okay?”
Bai Xia didn’t buy it for a second. This troublemaker was full of lies, especially when it came to things like this always ready to drag others down without a shred of remorse. Absolutely despicable!
“I don’t believe a word you say. How many times have you pulled this before?”
“Alright, alright, it was all my fault. Xia-jie, you’re magnanimous, please spare me this once.”
“Sorry, but I’m petty, not magnanimous.”
“I swear I won’t do it again!”
“Can oaths fill your stomach? If not, then forget it.”
“Xiaxia!”
Bai Xia shuddered at the whiny tone and covered her ears. “Can’t hear you, can’t hear you.”
Seeing that her sweet-talking tactic wasn’t working, Xu Mo switched gears. “Xiaxia, I’ve realized something, you’ve got a new flame.”
A new flame?
What nonsense was this?
“Don’t slander me. You should be asking yourself that question.”
“You totally do!”
Bai Xia lowered her hands and sighed. “Fine, then tell me, who’s this so-called new flame?”
Xu Mo scooted her chair away, pretending to cry. “How should I know who it is? But you definitely have one! Otherwise… the old Xiaxia would never be so cruel to me!”
“Oh, that’s because I was young and naive, falling for your lies,” Bai Xia retorted. “If I’d known you were nothing but a walking disaster, I would’ve poisoned you back then.”
Xu Mo knew she was in the wrong after all, she had pulled too many shady stunts and couldn’t muster any real confidence. “It’s been so long, Xia Xia, and you’re still holding a grudge. You really don’t love me anymore, you heartless woman. Waaah!”
Bai Xia found it utterly unbearable and simply packed up her things to go to bed, leaving Xu Mo alone to perform her one-woman drama below.
