Strategy to Tame My Dimwitted Older Sister A - Chapter 17
Bai Xia’s expression instantly turned awkward, tinged with a hint of guilt. Perhaps driven by a stubborn refusal to admit defeat, she immediately denied it. “W-what nonsense! How could I not know what dating is? I, your senior, have been through countless battles! It’s normal for youngsters like you to disagree with me now. Once you’ve had as much experience as I have, you’ll understand.”
The two alpha underclassmen exchanged glances, still half-convinced, and lowered their heads to whisper among themselves.
One of them muttered, “I feel like Senior is just bluffing. She talks as if it’s all real.”
The other nodded in agreement. “I think so too. The more someone lacks something, the more they like to boast about it.”
Though their voices were soft, Bai Xia had always had excellent hearing and caught every word. She nearly spat out blood in frustration.
The remark wasn’t particularly damaging, but the insult was profound.
Never in her wildest dreams did she imagine that Bai Xia, of all people, would one day be mocked by freshmen over the topic of “dating.” It was downright heartbreaking.
Clutching her chest, Bai Xia wiped away invisible tears, then paused. Wait, that wasn’t entirely accurate. In her past life, her omega partner had been arranged through a family matchmaking session. Though they hadn’t interacted much beforehand and lacked the usual intimate dynamic of a couple, after the matchmaking succeeded, they had been happy together, occasionally going out for meals. By that logic, she couldn’t be considered completely inexperienced in dating!
That’s right, she had dated before!
Suddenly, Bai Xia felt her confidence return. “Ahem! What are you two whispering about? I heard everything. Badmouthing your senior right in front of her is incredibly rude, you know.”
Caught red-handed, the two alpha underclassmen felt a twinge of guilt, but they knew Bai Xia was easygoing and wouldn’t take it to heart. Besides, they hadn’t meant it maliciously, it was just playful teasing so they quickly brushed it off with banter.
“Senior, since you say you’ve dated before, do you have any dating advice for us? Teach us a thing or two!”
“Uh!”
“Don’t worry, Senior! We’ll study hard and make sure to become virtuous, morally upright alphas!”
“Uh!”
Their earnest, studious expressions only made Bai Xia feel even more insecure.
In her past life, she had skipped straight to the endgame, what dating advice could she possibly have?!
Besides, kids these days were way too mature. By middle school, before they’d even fully grown in, they were already dating like seasoned players. What could they possibly need her advice for?!
Bai Xia spread her arms and pushed them forward, hastily making up an excuse to dodge the topic. “There’s no special advice. My wisdom for you is this: focus on your studies. Stop obsessing over this stuff. Omegas won’t like losers, so work hard, boys.”
The alpha and omega dormitories were separate, but due to the smaller number of students in the School of Arts, they were arranged into different floors for easier management. Alphas occupied the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors, while omegas were on the second and third. To prevent alphas from harassing omegas or engaging in any untoward behavior, the school had installed two separate access doors with keycard entry only the corresponding keycards could unlock them.
Therefore, when Bai Xia was almost at her dormitory building, she urged the two underclassmen to hurry back to their own dorms, as she also needed to get back quickly.
After exchanging goodbyes, they went their separate ways.
Bai Xia let out a sigh of relief, as if a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. The feeling of babysitting was truly terrifying, and the thought of having to endure it for another half-month gave her a headache.
Just as she was wondering how she would survive those two weeks, a hand suddenly reached out from behind and tightly grabbed her, as if telling her not to leave yet.
Bai Xia was a little annoyed, wondering who had the audacity to grab someone so boldly in broad daylight, how shameless! But after a moment, she realized that the way she was being pulled felt oddly familiar.
She had experienced it not too long ago.
It was exactly how Chu Nanqiao had grabbed her when she was taking her to the infirmary.
Bai Xia abruptly turned around and, as expected, it was indeed Chu Nanqiao.
At this moment, Chu Nanqiao was wearing her military training uniform. Her slightly long, curly hair had been braided into two pigtails, draped over her shoulders, front and back. The sweat-dampened strands of hair at her forehead were brushed to one side. Though it was nighttime, Chu Nanqiao’s flushed cheeks from excessive exercise were still clearly visible under the dim streetlights.
“You, why didn’t you go back to the dorm with your classmates?” Bai Xia glanced around, confirming that no one was following behind her, before asking.
Chu Nanqiao pouted pitifully. “Th-they d-don’t w-want to w-walk with me.”
Bai Xia frowned. “Why? Not a single person in your class was willing? That can’t be right!”
Chu Nanqiao replied in a pitiful tone, “H-how c-can it not?”
Of course not!
Those annoying alpha “lick dogs” in her class were unbearable, and that temporary student advisor was no exception just another one of them. The whole way, he kept asking this and that, driving her crazy.
But these words were something Chu Nanqiao could only say in her heart. She didn’t want Bai Xia to know she had deliberately ditched those “lick dogs” to come here.
Bai Xia was skeptical. Given Chu Nanqiao’s looks as an omega, she must have had a swarm of admirers, if not a thousand alphas vying for her attention, at least a hundred. How could there not be a single one?
Still, she figured Chu Nanqiao had no reason to lie to her about this. There was no benefit in doing so, and if exposed, it would only damage her image in others’ eyes. It was unlikely she’d do such a thing, so Bai Xia dismissed her doubts.
“So, you walked back alone?”
Bai Xia remembered that the advisors were usually quite attentive to freshmen, worried they might get lost. They typically instructed the student leaders to escort them when possible. Surely the leader for Class 2 couldn’t be that irresponsible?
But then Chu Nanqiao said, “Th-the advisor was busy. I d-didn’t want to bother him so I told him t-to go ahead.”
Ah, that made sense. After all, the advisors were usually responsible. If they weren’t, the counselor would’ve called them out in the group chat.
“No wonder. So, he only escorted you this far?”
Chu Nanqiao, worried that lingering too long might give her away, quickly tugged Bai Xia’s arm and urged her forward as she answered, “Y-yes.”
Bai Xia couldn’t help but add, “That’s really strange. They already brought you this far, it’s just a few steps away. Why not take you all the way to the dormitory? What could be so urgent?”
Chu Nanqiao’s eyes darted around nervously. If Bai Xia kept pressing, she was bound to give herself away. She could only keep changing the subject, “N-no idea. Maybe the senior had someone looking for him.”
Bai Xia still found it hard to believe, but Chu Nanqiao kept asking her other questions, so she didn’t dwell on it further.
