Strategy to Tame My Dimwitted Older Sister A - Chapter 16
After finishing her rounds, Bai Xia waited for Xu Mo at their usual meeting spot.
Truth be told, she had been preoccupied with one thought the entire time she was working she was really curious about what performance Chu Nanqiao had ended up giving. If someone stuttered, singing was probably out of the question.
Dancing, then?
She almost forgot, they were students in the arts department to begin with, and Chu Nanqiao was a dance major. Bai Xia remembered that in her past life, Chu Nanqiao had originally studied dance, but she had never once seen her perform. What a shame.
With Chu Nanqiao’s figure, dancing would probably be breathtakingly beautiful.
Just then, Bai Xia’s phone rang.
She opened it to see a call from Xu Mo. “Hey, where are you? Why aren’t you here yet? If you don’t come soon, I’m leaving without you.”
Xu Mo’s voice suddenly dropped to a whisper, as if she were sneaking around. If Bai Xia hadn’t put the call on speaker, she wouldn’t have been able to hear her at all.
“Speak up! I can’t hear you!”
Xu Mo hissed, “Xia Xia, don’t wait for me. I saw her, and she won’t leave. I can’t get to you, so just head back first. I’ll find a detour back to the dorm and meet you there.”
“Her”?
Who was “her”?
It took Bai Xia a moment to realize that the only person who could make the usually carefree Xu Mo this nervous was the arranged marriage partner she had never met. “How did you run into her?”
“Don’t ask me, I don’t know either, Xia-jie!” Xu Mo sounded like she was about to stomp her feet in frustration. “Of all things, someone in our department has a crush on her and dragged me along. Isn’t this just walking right into the trap?! Anyway, I need to find a way to slip away. Don’t wait for me, I’ll come find you later. That’s it.”
Beep!
The call ended abruptly. Bai Xia felt like she had missed out on a great show. She really would’ve loved to see Xu Mo’s flustered expression it would’ve been hilarious.
Then again, Xu Mo had dirt on her. When it came down to it, it was hard to say who would be the one left embarrassed. It was best not to celebrate too early, or she might end up regretting it.
Bai Xia decided not to gloat, lest karma come back to bite her. If it did, her fate would be far worse than Xu Mo’s. At worst, Xu Mo might get her legs broken by her parents but Bai Xia could lose her life!
Forget it. She’d stick to the principle of maintaining good friendships and let Xu Mo off the hook this time.
Bai Xia headed back to the dorm alone.
Coincidentally, it was just after military training had ended for the day. Along the way, she ran into quite a few familiar underclassmen. The shyer ones simply nodded in greeting, while the more outgoing ones walked with her and chatted about funny things that had happened during training.
As someone who had been through it all, Bai Xia knew exactly how “fun” military training could be. The stories were always the same she could predict the ending from the beginning. But when someone was willing to share, she could either let it go in one ear and out the other or not take it to heart. Still, she made sure to show basic respect by listening.
Most of the time, Bai Xia played the role of the silent audience. Unless the speaker said something that made her uncomfortable, she rarely interrupted.
An alpha underclassman walking beside her said, “Xia-jie, you wouldn’t believe what just happened in the omega squad!”
Bai Xia finished for him, “They were performing, right?”
Alpha junior excitedly chimed in, “Yeah, yeah, yeah! Senior Xia, are you here too?! So, senior, which omega’s performance moved your heart the most?”
Moved her heart?
What’s so moving about these performance skits?
Back in the day, she was young and naive, determined to be the most dazzling figure on the field. But right after the event ended, she got swarmed by a bunch of alphas. Everyone mistook her for an omega and even gave her a pile of omega-related stuff right in front of the crowd so embarrassing she could’ve dug a three-bedroom apartment with her toes. After that, Bai Xia swore she’d rather die than participate in such large-scale cultural events again.
But Bai Xia kept these thoughts to herself. Facing the eager questions of her adorable juniors, she still responded warmly, “Hmm, They were all great. Why do you have to pick just one? Don’t you think that would hurt their fragile little hearts? As an alpha, you should treat everyone equally.”
The alpha junior was taken aback for a moment, but upon reflection, Bai Xia’s words made sense. Omegas were already scarce, the school’s alpha-to-omega ratio was a pitiful 100:10 every year. He really should treat every omega fairly.
But this line of thinking. Why did it sound like something straight out of a playboy’s handbook?
The alpha junior didn’t dwell on it and continued, “Senior Xia, we even recorded videos. Do you want to see them?”
Freshmen were curious about everything and equally eager to share. Not wanting to dampen their enthusiasm, Bai Xia smiled and asked, “Weren’t you guys in military training? How did you even have time to record videos? Didn’t your instructor catch you? That’s too good to be true!”
Another alpha junior jumped in, “Oh, he did! But our instructor got so mad seeing the neighboring classes performing that he just let us join in too.”
Well, that…
Was an outcome Bai Xia hadn’t anticipated.
“You guys are so lucky. Not like your poor senior here back in my day, I was worked to the bone.”
“Senior, why didn’t you just fake being sick? Get a friend to write you a medical note and solve the problem at the root.”
“Can you just say that out loud?!!!”
“Of course!”
Kids these days were something else!
Bai Xia couldn’t help but applaud them before asking, “Then why didn’t you do that? What’s the point of exhausting yourselves?”
The alpha junior puffed up proudly. “Senior, you’re an alpha too, you should understand! You’ve got to find a wife early, or else once you’re out in society, you’ll just have to watch others flaunt their omegas in front of you!”
That was so logical she couldn’t even argue.
“But,” the alpha junior added, “Senior Xia, you’re so good-looking. You’ll never have to worry about finding a partner in the future!”
Bai Xia had never really thought about this before. After graduating from school in her previous life, she had buried herself in work. All the omegas around her had alpha partners, so she never had to consider such things. However, after she started working, Chu Nanqiao began reaching out to her frequently asking her out for meals on weekends and even cooking meals herself during the workweek, sending them to her office. Bai Xia had always wanted to find a chance to thank Chu Nanqiao. She had even planned to ask her to be the maid of honor at her wedding, but in the end, things turned out the way they did.
She couldn’t help but sigh for herself.
“Your mission in university is to study hard. Small matters like dating shouldn’t become obstacles on your future path, understand?”
The two alpha juniors didn’t agree with her. One of them wagged his index finger and said, “Senior Xia, that’s not right. Studying and dating don’t interfere with each other at all. Besides, dating is also about planning for your future. You can have both fish and bear’s paw, how could it be an obstacle? Senior Xia, don’t tell me you don’t even know what dating is?!”
