Strategy to Tame My Dimwitted Older Sister A - Chapter 15
Perhaps finding the training too dull, the instructor decided to liven things up for the students. He had the omega students form a circle and then selected a few through a “blind box” draw to perform their talents. Unfortunately, Chu Nanqiao was the unlucky one who drew the short straw.
To be honest, Bai Xia was quite curious. As someone with a stutter, Chu Nanqiao already struggled with speaking singing would surely be even worse. The thought of that awkward scenario made Bai Xia inexplicably amused.
Before she knew it, the corners of her lips had curled up in a grin.
“What are you grinning about, Xiaxia?” Xu Mo noticed her inexplicable amusement and sensed something fishy. “Don’t tell me, you’ve taken a liking to them!”
Bai Xia stiffened slightly before immediately covering Xu Mo’s face with her hand. “Stop, stop, stop! Don’t go spreading rumors. Not everyone is a social butterfly like you! If others overhear, you’ll be tarnishing that omega’s reputation for no reason. Have some decency!”
Xu Mo wasn’t buying it, her eyes still full of suspicion. “Oh really? Then explain this, if you don’t like them, why did you suddenly start smiling when I pointed them out?”
“I thought of something funny and laughed. Is that not allowed, Xu Mo?”
“You’re lying! Your grin was practically reaching the sky. What could possibly be that funny? Share it with me so I can laugh too. If you don’t, it means you’re hiding something!”
Bai Xia rolled her eyes and refused to engage further, dragging Xu Mo toward the lecture hall.
Xu Mo flailed her arms in protest, but her strength was no match for Bai Xia’s. After struggling in vain to break free from Bai Xia’s headlock, she could only let herself be dragged along.
Once they reached the meeting spot, Bai Xia finally released her. Still unwilling to let it go, Xu Mo tugged at Bai Xia’s sleeve when no one was paying attention. “Xiaxia, something’s off with you. Really off. I noticed it back at the bar too. You’re not being fair keeping secrets from me like this. Are we even best friends anymore?”
“No, we’re just karmic debt from a past life.”
“Come on, tell me! I won’t tell anyone. So what if you like an omega? It’s no big deal. Look at all the confessions posted every day people are used to it by now. Spill it!”
“Don’t spread rumors. Don’t tarnish our reputations. We’ve only met twice, and besides, I wouldn’t tell you even if I told anyone else. You’re a walking megaphone, I know exactly how you operate. The moment I tell you something, the whole world knows. As if I’d believe you!”
“I just can’t help it sometimes! But this time, I swear! If I blab again, may I be cursed with nothing but rotten peaches for life!”
Bai Xia scoffed. “How is that a punishment? You seem to enjoy that kind of attention anyway. It suits you just fine. Buzz off.”
Pouting, Xu Mo scooted back, propping her chin on her hand with exaggerated sadness. “Xiaxia, you’ve changed. You used to love me, cherish me, tell me everything. Now you’re keeping secrets and even snapping at me when I ask. Our friendship is over, waaah!”
Bai Xia covered her face with her hands, signaling that she didn’t know this overly dramatic woman, and even scooted further away for good measure. Xu Mo noticed and promptly followed suit.
But since they were in the middle of a meeting, Bai Xia didn’t want to lose what little dignity she had left in public. Suppressing the urge to punch someone, she patiently endured until the meeting ended. If she was going to hit someone, she’d do it behind closed doors at home, no need to give outsiders a free show.
Finally, after suffering through Xu Mo’s antics for over half an hour, the meeting concluded. They were assigned to different departments for inspections. As Bai Xia stepped out, she sighed helplessly, her expression bordering on exasperation.
A colleague from the same department noticed her state and asked with concern, “What’s wrong, Sister Xia? Something bothering you lately?”
Due to her looks and aura, most people didn’t call Bai Xia by her given name. Close friends like Xu Mo called her “Xia Xia,” while those less familiar usually addressed her as “Sister Xia.”
Of course, most of the time, it was just a playful nickname without much deeper meaning.
Bai Xia was genuinely annoyed, and Xu Mo’s question only made it worse. She knew Xu Mo all too well, a total blabbermouth. If this got out and somehow reached Chu Nanqiao’s ears, she’d never be able to clear her name, even if she jumped into the Yellow River.
She couldn’t ruin an omega’s reputation!
Besides, this was Chu Nanqiao we were talking about!
The same Chu Nanqiao who had stabbed her in her past life!
If Chu Nanqiao lost her temper even slightly, Bai Xia’s current life might end prematurely right here on campus!
No, no, she had to find a way to shut Xu Mo up fast.
Bai Xia’s mind raced.
Suddenly, an idea struck her, and the corners of her lips curled up slightly. “Xu Mo, don’t blame me for not being loyal. I’m just looking out for my own survival. I’ll have to sacrifice a bit of your happiness, I’m sure you won’t hold it against me.”
She thought this to herself.
The beta colleague beside her watched as her expression shifted from frustration to amusement, unsure how to describe the sudden mood swings. He wanted to ask if she’d been hit too hard by something or someone lately, to the point of seeming mentally unwell. But after some thought, since they weren’t that close, he held back. “Sister Xia, are you okay?”
Bai Xia snapped out of it and flashed him a polite smile. “I’m fine. Oh, what did you ask earlier? Sorry, I was lost in thought and didn’t catch it. Could you repeat that?”
The beta colleague obliged. “I was just asking if something’s been bothering you lately. You looked pretty upset when you came out earlier.”
Bai Xia waved a hand dismissively. “Don’t even ask. I’m seriously itching to punch someone right now.”
“Did Xu Mo provoke you again?”
“Who else would it be?”
“But aren’t you two close? You’re even roommates. I always see you together, what happened?”
“Being close doesn’t mean we can’t clash. Aren’t you even closer with your parents? Does that stop them from wanting to smack you every day?”
The beta colleague thought about it and found it quite reasonable. “You’re right. Xia, don’t take it to heart. Xu Mo is actually a good person, sharp tongue but a soft heart. If there’s anything, just sit down and talk it out properly. Don’t let it really hurt your relationship.”
Bai Xia clenched her fists, her lips twitching slightly. “Yeah, if it weren’t for that fragile relationship, she might not have walked out of the meeting room just now.”
