Strategy to Tame My Dimwitted Older Sister A - Chapter 14
For the next half month, Bai Xia didn’t see Chu Nanqiao again not on the training field, not on the way back, not even when going up or down the stairs. It was as if their paths, once intertwined in their past lives, had now diverged completely, each heading toward different directions.
Bai Xia felt both relieved and inexplicably hollow.
She was glad to finally break free from the shadows of her past life, no longer doomed to relive the pain of betrayal. Yet, she couldn’t explain the emptiness gnawing at her heart, as if something was missing. The feeling was vague but persistent, leaving her in a dull, listless mood.
“Bai Xia, what are you spacing out for? Hurry up!” Xu Mo urged beside her. “It’s our turn to do inspections today. Don’t be late again, or the student council president’s face will turn blacker than coal.”
Bai Xia couldn’t muster any enthusiasm and replied half-heartedly, “Got it.”
The two had joined the student council together at the start of their freshman year.
Originally, Xu Mo had signed up purely to scout for a potential omega partner, thinking she could just coast along for credits. Bai Xia, on the other hand, had joined to kill time and maybe pick up some useful skills. Neither had expected the workload weekly shifts at least twice a week, covering not just their own class or department, but the entire student body except for the seniors.
Every time they finished their rounds, they were left exhausted, feeling more drained than if they’d worked a part-time job.
“When will we finally graduate?! I can’t take this anymore!!!” Xu Mo wailed. “No one at home dares to boss me around like this. Who do these people think they are?!”
Bai Xia offered a simple solution. “If you don’t want to put up with it, there’s an easy way out.”
Xu Mo perked up instantly. “What is it? Tell me, Xia Xia!”
Bai Xia grinned. “Just ask your dad to call the principal and get you exempted. You could even take me along two birds with one stone, Mo-jie!”
“I knew you’d say that! You think I haven’t tried?!” Xu Mo clutched her chest dramatically. “My dad said if I dared to bother him with useless requests, he’d break my legs! Xia Xia, tell me am I adopted?! Waaah!”
“Ah, well!” Bai Xia chuckled and nodded solemnly. “Could be. Why don’t you sneak a strand of his hair next time you go home and get a DNA test?”
Xu Mo: “…”
Bai Xia tugged her along. “Alright, alright. If you can’t do it, then stop whining and move your ass. We don’t want to get called out in front of everyone again.”
As they bickered their way out of the dorm, they passed the training field where freshmen were being drilled on their posture, shouting slogans with forced enthusiasm. Their backs were ramrod straight, but their faces looked like they were owed millions, if not for the rules, they’d probably jump the instructors in a heartbeat.
The omega group had it easier; their instructors were more lenient, letting them rest as long as they followed orders. But for the alphas? No such luck.
Bai Xia couldn’t help but shiver at the sight before her. In her previous life, military training had tormented her enough those instructors seemed to have a personal vendetta against her, taking particular delight in making her suffer. If not for her sheer resilience, she might not have made it through.
“Hurry up, hurry up. Just looking at this makes me feel awful.”
“Why are you rushing so much? It’s scorching hot out here, I’m practically melting.”
Suddenly, Xu Mo noticed something and yanked Bai Xia back with such force that she lost her balance and tumbled straight into Xu Mo’s arms. “What are you doing now?!”
“Look, who’s that?!”
“Who? Who are you talking about?”
Bai Xia steadied herself and followed Xu Mo’s gaze. A painfully familiar figure came into view.
It was none other than Chu Nanqiao someone she knew all too well.
