Strategy to Tame My Dimwitted Older Sister A - Chapter 1
On a late autumn night, the heavy rain poured down, droplets pattering against the windows like a curtain of water, shrouding the outside world in a misty haze. In the dimly lit, boisterous bar, a young female alpha sat in the corner, her chin resting on her hands as she stared absentmindedly at the world outside, lost in thought. The raucous noise of the bar didn’t faze her in the slightest.
“My dear Xia-jie, are you here to drink or just to space out?”
The female alpha didn’t even lift her eyelids, remaining exactly as she was.
After a long while, a slender hand rested on her shoulder, and only then did she slowly snap out of her daze. Her expression remained unchanged, though she managed a faint smile. Taking in the familiar face, the familiar surroundings, and the time displayed on her phone, the female alpha finally confirmed one thing, she had gone back seven years.
From the carefree days of campus life to its end, then stepping into the workplace she despised most, and finally, under her family’s pressure, marrying an omega she wasn’t particularly fond of, it should have been a picture-perfect life, something to celebrate. But in the end, it had led to such a tragic outcome. Stabbed through the heart by an omega junior who once idolized her, right at her own wedding, there probably wasn’t anyone in the world more pitiful than her.
The person beside her was still fooling around, practically sitting on her lap. Bai Xia finally couldn’t take it anymore and shoved them aside. “There’s space over there. Have some restraint. Alphas shouldn’t be so touchy with each other, what if someone we know sees us? My reputation would be ruined, you know?”
Xu Mo simply wrapped her arms around Bai Xia’s neck, shaking her vigorously. “What nonsense about ‘touchy’? Who was it that crawled into my bed the night before last because she was cold? Why didn’t you talk about ‘touchy’ then? So now that you’ve got your pants back on, you’re playing the prude? Wow, Bai Xia, I never knew you were such a heartbreaker. Poor all those little omegas who skipped meals and lost sleep over you. Tomorrow, I’m going to expose you on the school confession wall as the scumbag you are, ruin your reputation, and make sure every omega spits on you. Then you’ll have no choice but to crawl into my warm embrace. Heh, now that I think about it, that sounds pretty damn perfect.”
“Uh!” Bai Xia was momentarily speechless. “Xu Mo, wipe that drool off your face. That kind of scenario might happen in your dreams. Also, there’s something I’ve been wondering about.”
“What is it?”
“Are you sure that if all those little omegas threw themselves at you, you wouldn’t be completely drained?”
Xu Mo actually paused to consider the question seriously before looking up again. “Yeah, never mind. Greed really is a sin.”
Bai Xia wholeheartedly agreed with that sentiment. In her past life, her desires had been simple, find a job she was happy with, meet someone she truly loved. Whether they were an alpha, beta, or omega, as long as they loved and cared for each other, they could walk hand in hand into the wedding hall, and that would have been a fulfilling life.
But fate had other plans. Even such a simple wish was denied to her. Instead, she was given that cruel twist on her wedding day. It was just too unfair!
And that Chu Nanqiao, with her deceptively innocent and pitiable appearance, truly showed no mercy when it came to delivering a fatal blow. If the stab had been just slightly off, she might have had a chance to save herself clearly, Chu Nanqiao had genuinely wanted her dead.
Bai Xia couldn’t understand it. Their relationship hadn’t been particularly close, but it certainly wasn’t bad either. Chu Nanqiao had taken beatings for her, and she had helped Chu Nanqiao through her heat cycles. They knew each other’s pheromones better than they knew themselves. Logically speaking, Chu Nanqiao shouldn’t have treated her like this.
Where had things gone wrong?
No matter how much Bai Xia racked her brain, she couldn’t figure it out, so she simply stopped trying. Though her death in her past life had been somewhat inexplicable, she was reborn now. As long as she stayed far away from Chu Nanqiao, the tragic outcome of her previous life wouldn’t repeat itself.
Just as she made this resolution, the bar erupted in rowdy cheers.
Following the noise, Bai Xia glanced to the side and caught sight of a beautiful and adorable omega.
Fair, delicate skin, slightly curled long hair, and a pair of sparkling, doe-like eyes, she looked like a meticulously crafted porcelain doll, the dream omega of countless alphas.
This was her first encounter with Chu Nanqiao.
In the noisy bar, Chu Nanqiao had come with her friends to blow off steam. But her striking looks made her the center of attention the moment she stepped in. A group of alphas surrounded her, demanding her contact details. When she refused, they grew furious and began harassing her. Bai Xia, acting on the principle of playing the hero to save the beauty, stepped in and rescued Chu Nanqiao. Little did she know, that was the beginning of her misfortune.
So this time, Bai Xia decided to leave the heroics to someone else. From now on, she and Chu Nanqiao would go their separate ways, each living their own peaceful lives.
Then again, perhaps it was precisely because of her “hero saves the beauty” act in her past life that Chu Nanqiao had misunderstood something about her.
Yes, that was probably it.
Bai Xia nodded thoughtfully, pinching her chin, proud of her own clever deduction.
Xu Mo, however, was utterly baffled. “Bai Xia, what are you grinning about? Did something happen to you today? Where’s your usual cool and aloof persona?”
“Huh? What?”
“I asked what you’re grinning about.”
“I’m not grinning! Am I not even allowed to smile now?”
“Never mind. You do you, old lady.”
Xu Mo paused, then added, “Shouldn’t we go help her? She’s an omega stuck in a den of wolves. Her friends don’t seem to care, and if this goes on, she’ll be devoured without a trace left.”
Bai Xia turned her face away and waved a hand dismissively. “Oh, come on. Someone as pretty as her just needs to call out, and plenty of people would jump at the chance to play the hero. We don’t need to get involved. Besides, her family’s loaded, one phone call and her bodyguards will be here in no time. Let’s not steal the spotlight. Leave the opportunity to someone else, okay?”
Xu Mo found her behavior odd. Normally, Bai Xia would be the first to charge into such situations, spouting things like “Protecting omegas is an alpha’s duty” or “Omegas are gifts from heaven to alphas; we must cherish them.” She’d never say something as detached as “leave the opportunity to someone else.”
Something was off.
Very off.
Xu Mo turned her face in another direction and leaned in. “Bai Xia, you couldn’t possibly know her, could you?”
“H-how could that be!”
“See, I haven’t even said anything yet. Why are you so worked up?”
Bai Xia felt a pang of guilt. Xu Mo was her best friend and roommate, someone she shared everything with. But on second thought, no one in this world would believe something like reincarnation, right?
Besides, knowing Xu Mo’s temperament, if she found out that Chu Nanqiao had killed her in her past life, Xu Mo would never let Chu Nanqiao off the hook.
The past was the past, and the present was the present. Since she had been reborn, there was no need to entangle herself with Chu Nanqiao over past grievances. Nor did she want Xu Mo to clash with the current Chu Nanqiao on her behalf. It just wasn’t necessary.
After a moment’s hesitation, Bai Xia steadied herself and said, “I really don’t know her. I just thought, what if people misunderstand if I step in to help? If she suddenly starts crying, with me being an alpha and her an omega, I’d never be able to clear my name even if I jumped into the Yellow River! Don’t you think?”
Xu Mo found the reasoning somewhat plausible, but upon closer consideration, it sounded like complete nonsense.
“That’s not it.”
“H-how so?”
“You never used to say things like this before.”
“What did I used to say?”
Imitating Bai Xia’s usual tone, Xu Mo raised her voice dramatically, “As alphas, we should lead by example, fulfill our duty to protect these adorable omegas, and give them a sense of security. If we can’t do that, then alphas don’t deserve to live in this world. Tell me, didn’t you say those exact words?”
“Uh! I, well.”
“Answer me. Did you say that or not?”
Bai Xia suddenly wished she could travel back in time and slap her past self. If Xu Mo hadn’t brought it up, she wouldn’t have remembered how self-righteous she used to be, almost moved to tears by her own grandstanding. Sheepishly, she muttered, “Listen, Mo-jie, some things, you really don’t have to remember so clearly.”
Xu Mo knew Bai Xia well. She wouldn’t say something like this without reason, so there had to be something she was hiding. But if Bai Xia wasn’t willing to talk, she wouldn’t press further. “Fine, if you don’t want to, then forget it. But let me remind you, the bar’s pretty empty tonight. If you don’t step in, she could really be in trouble.”
The more Bai Xia thought about it, the more something felt off. She suddenly slammed the table. “Wait a minute, aren’t you an alpha too? Why does it have to be me?!”
Xu Mo sighed. “You know how I am. If I get involved, there’s an 80% chance I’ll end up in a police station. My parents warned me recently, if I get into another fight, they’ll ship me off abroad on the next flight. Do you want to drive me away?”
Bai Xia felt an inexplicable wave of frustration.
Helping wasn’t an option, but not helping wasn’t either. She shouldn’t have come to the bar tonight in the first place!
Meanwhile, the jeering grew louder. Chu Nanqiao stood encircled in the middle, wanting to shout but seemingly holding back. Instead, she could only gesture her displeasure with her hands.
Yet the more she resisted, the more excited these alphas became. Their teasing escalated from verbal taunts to physical contact, relentlessly pushing her toward the inner seats.
But Chu Nanqiao wasn’t the kind of omega to take things lying down. With one forceful shove, she knocked one of the surrounding alphas to the ground, then glared fiercely at the others.
The fallen alpha, humiliated, scrambled to her feet with a curse and stormed forward. Fueled by rising anger, she raised her hand, aiming to strike Chu Nanqiao across the face.
Just as the alpha’s palm was about to land, her wrist was seized midair by a slender, firm hand. In the next instant, she was violently flung aside.
