For Lu Zhidao, life’s only meaning has always been “obedience.” To execute cold-blooded missions, she became a machine, hiding herself behind a mask of indifference.
That changed when she was tasked with escorting Chu Ning to the capital. By a stroke of luck (or fate), they were the only two to escape an ambush and were forced to rely on each other. The mission itself wasn’t hard the real challenge was learning how to be around Chu Ning.
Lu Zhidao: “I’m learning!”
To complete her primary orders, Lu Zhidao acted as both bodyguard and nanny—attentive yet distant. She never imagined that her dull, wooden heart could be melted by a single piece of candy. For the first time, she realized this mission was actually… sweet.
But Chu Ning grew bolder by the day. “Lu Zhidao, you carry all the luggage from now on. I’ll give you a candy.” “Okay.” “Lu Zhidao, I’m out of money for candy. Go perform for tips! Can you smash a rock on your chest? How about the spear-to-the-throat trick? Lu Zhidao! Kiss me, and I’ll give you a candy.
Lu Zhidao hesitated, fearing she wasn’t good enough—that she wasn’t as sweet as the candy. Yet Chu Ning was relentless, teasing her on land and sea until Lu Zhidao had no choice but to surrender. But then… her “second set of orders” accidentally fell out.
Just as the “stiff wood” was finally blooming under the warmth of her “little sun,” Chu Ning stopped giving her chances and left alone.
Finally, Lu Zhidao resolved to swing her sword and cut ties with her miserable past. She ran desperately to Chu Ning, but couldn’t muster a single romantic word. After struggling for ages, she finally choked out: “From now on, I only take orders from you.”
