- Chapter 1 - Xu Xiang, Ayan, Year After Year (Volume 1)
“What is your wish?”
“By your side.”
On a bitterly cold winter night, by the icy sea cliffs.
The frigid seawater relentlessly crashed against the cliff walls, sending sprays of foam into the air.
On the damp soil.
A frail figure, drenched and trembling, curled up shakily at the edge of the cliff.
Her hands and feet were bound with coarse ropes, the other ends of which were attached to a crane.
It was clear what was about to happen to the woman. Not a single patch of her skin remained unscathed.
Her hair had been cut off, and her face bore dozens of slashes. Yet, even in this state, her breathtaking beauty was undeniable.
“Why? Why is this happening?” Xu Xiang struggled fiercely on the ground, her expression twisting in agony.
She couldn’t understand how her most beloved younger sister could conspire with her fiancé to betray her like this.
Xu Nuo, stepping gracefully in high heels and supported by Gu Wangchuan, approached Xu Xiang with an air of superiority, looking down at her as she lay on the verge of death.
There was no trace of the obedient younger sister she had once been. Instead, her face was a mask of cunning and malice.
She bent down, grabbed Xu Xiang’s head, and forced her to look up. “My dear sister, did you really think Wangchuan and I ever loved you? You were nothing more than a tool for us to bring down Li Zhenyan.”
Xu Xiang’s chest heaved violently as she stared at Gu Wangchuan in disbelief, her voice trembling. “W-What? Wangchuan, this can’t be true! Tell me it’s not!”
Gu Wangchuan looked at the disheveled Xu Xiang with disdain, then lifted the chin of the woman in his arms and gave her a teasing, fleeting kiss. “Let me be honest with you. It was Li Zhenyan who donated his kidney to you. It was also him who took the bullet for you.”
Xu Xiang shuddered, her entire world collapsing in that instant. Her eyes widened in horror.
The formidable Second Master Li, the untouchable flower admired by thousands in S Country, had been reduced to dust in her presence.
He had kept her by his side, allowed her to act recklessly, watched her harm herself, and yet willingly walked into every trap she set.
And she, manipulated by Gu Wangchuan, had step by step hurt Li Zhenyan, even destroying everything he possessed.
“Ha? haha! You two deserve to die a miserable death!”
Xu Nuo broke free from Gu Wangchuan’s embrace, stepped forward, and ground the heel of her high heel into Xu Xiang’s hand.
“Xu Xiang, even the mighty Second Master Li is already waiting for you underground, thanks to your help. How else could we have possibly brought down Li Zhenyan?”
No!
It can’t be!
Li Zhenyan, you must live!
Seeing that the time was right, Gu Wangchuan signaled his subordinates to lower Xu Xiang into the sea.
Xu Xiang struggled desperately, her eyes bloodshot and filled with despair as she glared at the couple. “Xu Nuo! Gu Wangchuan! You will die a miserable death!”
In an instant, the icy seawater flooded her lungs and chest. Xu Xiang fought with all her might, but her bound hands and feet rendered her helpless.
The bottomless sea exuded an aura of terror as Xu Xiang’s body sank rapidly under the force of gravity.
If there is a next life, I will love Li Zhenyan properly.
Suddenly, her body fell into a firm embrace. Dazed, she could faintly sense the movements of the person beside her.
The man was injured, and his bright red blood drifted around Xu Xiang in the seawater.
When she opened her eyes, she realized it was Li Zhenyan. But she didn’t deserve this!
Xu Xiang shook her head in agony, her helpless expression pleading for him to leave quickly.
A suffocating sensation washed over her, she felt she couldn’t hold on much longer.
Then, a pair of cool, thin lips pressed against hers, desperately transferring air to her. His arms tightened around Xu Xiang, as if fearing he might lose the person in his embrace the very next second.
The relentless waves crashed against the shore. When Xu Xiang awoke, she found herself securely cradled in Li Zhenyan’s protective embrace, but he lay pale and motionless.
“Ayan! Ayan, wake up! Please wake up! Don’t leave me, I beg you!”
“Li Zhenyan, you said whoever lies to me is a puppy. You promised to stay by my side for a lifetime.”
Xu Xiang’s entire body trembled as she cried out in anguish, her heartache so intense it felt suffocating.
“Woof!” A faint sound escaped Li Zhenyan’s lips as he struggled to part them.
“Ayan, if there’s a next life, I’ll love you properly, alright? Don’t go! I was wrong, I truly was…”
“Alright!”
With that final word, Li Zhenyan’s faint breathing ceased abruptly. A slight smile graced his lips as he departed from this world.
An excruciating, heart-rending pain instantly overwhelmed Xu Xiang. A torrent of blood gushed from her mouth, she knew her own life had reached its end.
Her eyelids grew heavy, drooping shut. She nestled closer into Li Zhenyan’s embrace and pressed a reverent kiss to his lips.
Ayan, in the next life, let me be the one to protect you, alright?
Ayan, the underworld is too lonely. Walk slowly, I’ll follow right behind.
The next morning, their bodies were discovered. Beside them, a message was starkly written in blood:
“Xu Xiang and Ayan through all the years to come.”
