Snuggling for Survival: A Quick Transmigration Tale - Chapter 9
This was the first time Li Yuan had ever been questioned so confidently and directly, yet she didn’t feel the slightest bit of anger. Inside the room, the candlelight began to flicker. The visibility inside the coffin wasn’t great, but that didn’t affect Li Yuan at all. The small face before her carried a hint of reproach, without a trace of fear.
It looked exactly like a new wife grumbling at her husband.
Although there was a trace of resentment in her words, it felt more like the aggrieved pouting of someone acting spoiled. This soft person clung to her as if she had no bones. Li Yuan was actually worried that her excessively cold body would make the girl uncomfortable. For the first time, she detested her own lack of body heat, and a sense of guilt welled up inside her.
“It’s all your fault,” the girl added, pushing her luck with another complaint.
Looking at the face so close to her own, Li Yuan’s expression shifted several times. Her thin lips moved, and after a long moment, she managed to squeeze out a sentence with difficulty. “I… I did that for your own good.”
Her voice was cool, as if she didn’t care, but if one listened closely, a hint of being wronged could be heard. Everything had been for Yu Yu’s sake; how was it that the girl was now blaming her?
This behavior only made Yu Yu find her even more adorable. This person wasn’t scary at all.
Perhaps, in the beginning, there had been some worry, some dread, and even fear of the unknown. But after actually meeting the person, those emotions had changed. Yu Yu’s lips curled upward, and a flicker of a smile appeared in her dark pupils as her eyes curved into crescents. “I just want to be with you. It was true before, and it’s true now. No matter who or what you are, I’m not afraid.”
Her tone was incredibly firm.
Suddenly being bombarded by such a confession, Li Yuan became troubled again. She and Yu Yu belonged to two different worlds. Even if she was happy, she didn’t know how to respond to such pure affection.
Li Yuan hesitated for too long. In the cramped space of the coffin, there was no extra room to begin with. After Yu Yu shifted slightly, the distance between them closed even further.
Warm breath brushed against Li Yuan’s cheek. The collision of ice and warmth caused a heat to spread across the face of the woman who had never feared anything—a heat that mirrored Yu Yu’s.
As if trying to escape something, Li Yuan instinctively tried to shrink back, but the space was only so large. Yu Yu leaned in further, and their cheeks pressed directly against one another. One cold, one hot; the distance between them vanished.
“You…” Li Yuan’s voice carried a slight tremor. She had never imagined she would have such a disheveled, flustered moment. The human before her was incredibly fragile, yet at this moment, she had lost the ability to even dodge, leaving her body stiff as she endured the girl’s closeness.
“Hehe…” Yu Yu nuzzled against Li Yuan’s shoulder. The sense of security made her take a deep breath. Even though she knew this wasn’t a person and the place they were lying was hardly romantic, Yu Yu felt an immense peace of mind. “I just want to be stuck to you.”
It was another unexpected confession. Li Yuan even suspected Yu Yu was doing this on purpose, intentionally saying things that made her feel strange and unlike herself. If she didn’t lack a heartbeat and the need to breathe, she would have long since lost her composure.
She had no body heat, no breath, and no heartbeat, but she still had a mind. And that usually clever mind was currently bordering on a total shutdown. Li Yuan’s thoughts were a mess. This was a sensation she had never experienced in all her years of existence, it was the first time she had been provoked this intensely.
After a long pause, Li Yuan finally spoke, her voice raspy. As if trying to reclaim some of her dignity, her tone turned a bit stern. “If I take the things, you say seriously, you have to take responsibility. If you leave me later, then you… you will have to pay the price.”
She had given the girl many chances, yet the girl had said these things to her over and over. Li Yuan was starting to take them to heart.
Only a fool would want to leave you, Yu Yu thought.
Immediately, as if to prove her stance, she pressed even closer to Li Yuan, even nuzzling her like a little piglet rooting for truffles. Even without a heartbeat or warmth, the scent on this person was very pleasant, Yu Yu thought distractedly.
She didn’t notice that the look in Li Yuan’s eyes had begun to change.
Casting a cautious glance at the girl clinging to her, Li Yuan tentatively moved her hand forward, encircling Yu Yu completely in her arms. The two were already pressed together, but this move left a small gap of about two fists’ width on the other side of the narrow coffin.
Her cold, slender hands were now in a highly possessive state, holding Yu Yu tightly, yet leaving just enough slack that the girl could break free if she struggled. But Yu Yu didn’t move; she nestled contentedly in Li Yuan’s arms like a small throw pillow.
Neither spoke, and ten quiet minutes passed.
Lying there, the “sleep bugs” began to emerge. Yu Yu’s eyelids struggled for a moment, but she ultimately couldn’t resist the drowsiness. Her head tilted slightly in an unconscious slump.
In the next second, a cold hand moved. The chill first touched her brow, and a moment later, it pinched her cheek. This was accompanied by Li Yuan’s somewhat fierce voice. “Yu Yu, if you ever dare to leave me, you’re dead.”
“Mhm… I won’t.” Jarred awake by the cold, Yu Yu became a bit more alert. She gave a small shake of her head and immediately expressed her loyalty. “Never.”
Li Yuan let out a low, soft laugh and fell silent. Her aggressive movements stopped, and she simply held the girl tightly again.
“I am an unfortunate person, but right now, I feel very lucky.” Li Yuan’s voice was soft, carrying a heavy nasality. It was an emotion that had never appeared in her before. Pressing her forehead against Yu Yu’s, she couldn’t help but smile. “If it weren’t for my misfortune, I would have missed you. So, in that sense, I feel lucky.”
Yu Yu felt a bit dazed, sensing vaguely that what was about to happen would make her feel quite bad. She was like someone wandering outside the story, without a script or a protagonist’s halo.
A soft sigh echoed, and Li Yuan’s fingertips brushed over Yu Yu’s cheek. The girl, who had only been awake for a few minutes, was swept away by a sudden, irresistible wave of sleepiness.
Even Li Yuan’s voice began to sound ethereal. “The Li Family is a pedantic family, a loathsome place that reeks of rot…”
