Sis, Do You Need a Dog? - Chapter 10
Chapter 10: I Am the Only Love of Cheng Shuyi’s Life
The young girl was dressed in a simple white T-shirt and jeans. Her features were vibrant, possessing a beauty that was both aggressive and invasive. Especially those clear, cool eyes—the moment they met her own, the girl suddenly broke into a smile as brilliant as fireworks ascending into the night sky.
“Sister!” Noticing her gaze, Si Tingbai took the initiative to wave.
“You?” Cheng Shuyi stopped listening to the person pleading on the other end of the line. She stood her ground, scrutinizing Si Tingbai by the roadside.
What was it that Shao Su had said on the phone just now? She hadn’t been able to reach Meng Ningjiu, so she had told Si Tingbai about the dinner appointment instead. Moreover, she had spent the whole day urging Si Tingbai not to forget about it.
So now…
Cheng Shuyi appraised the person before her. The girl wore no makeup, her long hair flowed freely, and even her clothes were low-profile. Coming to snatch resources dressed like this?
Cheng Shuyi pursed her lips and remained silent. Sensing her gaze, Si Tingbai spoke the words she had practiced repeatedly in her head.
“Meng Ningjiu had to train, so she asked me to accompany Sister to the drinking session.” Si Tingbai’s voice was very obedient, her posture humble enough. “I don’t have to sit at the table. I can just wait outside the door. I’ll only appear if Sister needs me. Once Sister is finished drinking, I’ll take her home.”
This set of lies had been rehearsed so many times that it flowed as naturally as the truth. Yet, Cheng Shuyi still didn’t speak; she simply stared at her. Her gaze was like a blade, slowly peeling away Si Tingbai’s lies and disguises, forcing her into a position where she had nowhere to hide.
“I’m sorry. I thought it was that kind of drinking session. I was worried Sister would be harassed, so I snuck out…” Si Tingbai’s voice weakened as she proactively apologized, having spotted the impatience in Cheng Shuyi’s eyes.
Every circle has its stereotypes, and the most common one in the entertainment industry is the “unspoken rules.”
“Heh.” Having received her answer, Cheng Shuyi gave a cold laugh. Just as she was about to speak, her phone rang again.
There was no telling how many different numbers this person had used to stage a comeback. After nine years of absence, that person’s obsession seemed to have deepened.
“I’ll give you a chance.” Cheng Shuyi raised her hand in a tossing motion.
Si Tingbai didn’t have time to look; she hurriedly reached out to catch the object, only to find it was the phone, still on the incoming call screen.
“There really is someone harassing me. Answer the call and make her give up hope.” Cheng Shuyi’s voice was icy, devoid of emotion. “Perform well, and I’ll take you inside. Perform poorly, and you can pack your things and get lost tonight.”
Si Tingbai noted the requirement. The call had already disconnected due to the long ringing time. Within three seconds, a new round of calling began. Looking at the flashing number—no contact name, no identity.
Si Tingbai’s greatest virtue was her obedience. So, even though she didn’t know what she would face when the call connected, she did as she was told.
The person on the other end seemed to be in a hurry. The moment the call was answered, the voice burst through.
“Shuyi, you’re finally willing to pick up. I was thinking that if you refused to see me tonight, I would go public online tomorrow about our past relationship. I’m not afraid of you hating me or forcing you—regardless, this time I won’t be like I was seven years ago. Shuyi, I beg you, give me a chance…”
The woman’s voice was earnest; one could vaguely hear tears and regret.
Si Tingbai frowned and said flatly, “A chance?”
“Who are you?” Hearing a strange voice, the woman’s crying on the other end stopped abruptly. “Isn’t this Cheng Shuyi’s number?!”
“You’ve been calling me all night and yet you’re asking me who I am?” After replying, Si Tingbai raised her eyes to meet Cheng Shuyi’s playful gaze.
“Impossible! This is Cheng Shuyi’s phone number! Who are you? Are you her assistant? Give the phone back to her immediately!” The woman’s voice grew frantic, threatening: “Or tell Cheng Shuyi that if she is truly this heartless and refuses to see me, don’t blame me for dragging her down with me. I’ll reveal all her dirty laundry. Do you know who I am?”
The person on the other end was still speaking, but Si Tingbai had lost the patience to listen. The woman standing on the steps above her was as brilliant as fire, alluringly beautiful.
Si Tingbai gazed at those red lips, swallowed slightly, and said word for word: “I don’t need to know who you are. Instead, you need to know one thing right now.”
“And that is: there is no longer a place for you by Cheng Shuyi’s side.”
The person on the other end, who had been frantic just moments ago, suddenly went silent, as if being strangled. Si Tingbai’s voice was as cold as a phantom.
“Perhaps there was once, but now and in the future, it will never be your turn.”
The girl’s voice was firm, echoing in the night air with a certain ruthless bravado.
“Weren’t you asking who I am?” Si Tingbai looked into Cheng Shuyi’s eyes and spoke into the receiver. “I’ll tell you.”
“I am the only love of Cheng Shuyi’s life.”
