She’s Fiercer Than Zombies - Chapter 2
Being carried under someone’s arm while sprinting at full speed, Yinxi’s stiff body swayed and jolted with each step, her head bobbing so violently it felt like her brains were being thoroughly scrambled. A dazed expression surfaced on her face.
“Help! Save us, please save us!” The people behind continued to scream in panic. Qiao Gaogao gritted her teeth and ran as fast as she could, but eventually, she couldn’t take it anymore.
“What are you screaming for! Can’t you see I’m just a 1.63-meter-tall, delicate young girl who can barely take care of herself? How am I supposed to save you!”
“Don’t you realize the more you scream, the more noise you make, and the more agitated they become?”
Years of training had endowed Qiao Gaogao with exceptional physical fitness. Even while carrying someone, she effortlessly outpaced the others, leaving them far behind.
The people behind stared wide-eyed at the girl in a white shirt and gray plaid skirt, clutching a bouquet of flowers in one hand and carrying a tall woman under her other arm, sprinting with astonishing speed.
You call this “delicate and unable to take care of herself”?!
“Ah!” One of them was suddenly pounced on by a pursuing zombie. A brief scream was all he managed before the zombie sank its teeth into his neck, blood spurting out and staining most of his body crimson.
Qiao Gaogao glanced back and saw the scene, her pupils contracting sharply. She was now completely convinced these were real zombies, not some prank. Instantly, she put even more effort into running.
But, why did she feel that her senior sister resembled those zombies?
As she ran, Qiao Gaogao glanced down at Yinxi. Her skin wasn’t as dark and bluish as the zombies behind them, but it had an unhealthy grayish pallor. And when she thought of those turbid eyes, weren’t they just like the zombies’?
A chill ran down Qiao Gaogao’s spine, yet her grip on Yinxi remained firm, holding her tightly as she scanned the surroundings for an escape route.
How could her senior sister have suddenly turned into a zombie when they had been together the whole time? What was the mechanism behind this mutation?!
Her thoughts were in chaos, but she focused on trying to shake off the people behind her.
Damn it, those people were like a string of candied hawthorns, trailing a horde of zombies behind them. How could she possibly save them all?
The zombie outbreak had occurred right after classes ended, so most students were likely still gathered near the teaching buildings. That area was definitely not an option. As for the dormitories, they were far away and required crossing the sports field, which was probably already swarming with zombies.
“Roar!”
A zombie suddenly lunged at Qiao Gaogao from the side, its gaping mouth magnified in her vision. She slammed to a halt, nimbly stepping back, then kicked the zombie hard, sending it flying two or three meters away.
But the interruption allowed the people behind to close in on her. The zombie she had kicked away got up as if unharmed and charged at her again. Trapped between two sides, Qiao Gaogao’s eyes instantly reddened with fury.
“Roar! Roar!” Yinxi, still clamped under her arm, let out anxious growls but dared not struggle and disrupt Qiao Gaogao’s balance.
Qiao Gaogao abandoned the flowers, flinging them at the zombie. In the same motion, she clenched her right fist, the ring on her middle finger reflecting a blinding glare in the sunlight, and struck the zombie’s head with brutal force.
“Bang!”
Blood and brain matter splattered instantly, spraying onto Qiao Gaogao’s clothes and face.
“Ahh!” Qiao Gaogao screamed in shock.
She widened her eyes and looked down at her fist. Was she really this strong now?!
Meanwhile, Yinxi stood frozen, her murky eyes seeming to shatter some long-held belief.
“Damn! You call that frail and helpless?!” the person sprinting behind her couldn’t help but angrily shout upon seeing this.
If she was considered frail, then they might as well just drop dead!
“Stop wasting time and run!” Qiao Gaogao had no time to marvel at her own transformation. She had already noticed zombies approaching from other directions and was growing frantic.
“Bam!”
“Bam!”
Qiao Gaogao punched through the heads of two zombies lunging at her, but her steps were unavoidably slowed. The people behind gradually caught up, and even the five or six zombies chasing them roared as they sprinted madly.
Observing their swift and agile movements, Qiao Gaogao took a moment to feel the Yinxi she was carrying her body was noticeably cold and stiff, nowhere near as nimble as the other zombies!
If she were thrown out to compete with them, she wouldn’t even get to eat warm food!
“Ah! Help! help me!”
The person closest to Qiao Gaogao was tackled by a zombie. Without a second thought, she spun around and delivered a flying kick to the zombie’s head. A chilling crack of bone echoed as the zombie’s neck snapped instantly, its entire body sent flying into the pursuing zombies, momentarily slowing them down.
Those few seconds provided a brief respite. The person on the ground scrambled up and resumed their desperate sprint.
It had to be said that the line between life and death truly brought out a person’s potential. Her steps became incredibly swift, and she soon drew parallel with Qiao Gaogao, eventually even surpassing her!
The others stared in disbelief, and even Qiao Gaogao couldn’t help but marvel at the sight.
Was this the legendary “fleet-foot”?
“Screech!” The sound of tires scraping against the ground echoed as a patrol vehicle emerged from the intersection ahead. Three or four people inside waved frantically, shouting, “Hurry! Quickly!”
At the sight, the group felt as if they had found a lifeline. Their exhausted bodies suddenly surged with renewed energy as they sprinted toward the patrol vehicle.
The afternoon sun was scorching and blinding. Qiao Gaogao glanced up at the patrol vehicle not far away, gritted her teeth, and ran even faster. With a final leap, she boarded the vehicle with Yinxi in her arms, then quickly shuffled inward to make space for others to jump aboard.
Thump, thump!
The patrol vehicle rocked up and down several times as the others swiftly climbed in. Without delay, the driver slammed the accelerator, and the vehicle sped off!
“Ah!” someone screamed, hurling whatever they could grab. Everyone on the vehicle paled with fear.
“Roar!”
A zombie clinging to the rear of the vehicle was half-dragged along, yet its face was filled with a ravenous craving for flesh. Its hands gripped the tailgate railing tightly, refusing to let go.
“Move aside!” Qiao Gaogao yelled. The others instinctively made way as she stepped onto a seat, charged forward, and fiercely grabbed the zombie’s wrist, twisting it violently!
“Crunch!”
The sound of a bone breaking clearly reached the ears of everyone present. Watching the zombie whose hand had been directly twisted off and thrown down by Qiao Gaogao, everyone except the driver stared at her in stunned disbelief.
However, those who had previously escaped with Qiao Gaogao seemed slightly calmer than the others.
“Damn! Are girls this fierce nowadays?” one of the men scratched his head, still unable to believe what he had just witnessed.
“Fiercer than you, at least,” Qiao Gaogao replied seriously.
“Ah! Zombie!”
In an instant, Qiao Gaogao’s pupils contracted sharply. Without a second thought, despite the row of seats separating her from Yinxi, she lunged forward, trying to grab her.
With a loud thud, Yinxi was kicked off the vehicle, her body tumbling several times on the ground before she lay there, unable to get up immediately.
Seeing this, Qiao Gaogao’s eyes widened in fury. She had no time to confront the person responsible and leaped off the vehicle herself. After rolling twice to break her fall, she scrambled toward Yinxi.
Shouts of alarm echoed behind her, growing fainter as the vehicle sped away. Qiao Gaogao reached Yinxi, her eyes reddening with rage at the sight of the multiple abrasions on her body.
“Senior! Senior, are you okay?” Qiao Gaogao hurriedly helped Yinxi up and held her in her arms. But before she could say another word, the zombies chasing the vehicle lunged at them, snarling as if to tear them apart.
Qiao Gaogao quickly lifted Yinxi as she had done before, delivering two fierce punches that exploded the heads of the nearest zombies. Her eyes scanned the surroundings. After what had just happened, she dared not stay with the others while carrying Yinxi. She had to find a place where only the two of them could hide.
“Grrr!”
Clutched at Qiao Gaogao’s side, Yinxi growled, trying to intimidate the approaching zombies.
“Roar!”
Well, it was utterly useless their roars were far more menacing than hers.
Spotting an opportunity, Qiao Gaogao dashed into a narrow alley with Yinxi in her arms. Not far ahead stood the old administration building of Z University, usually sparsely populated and now the perfect refuge for them.
“Roar!” A zombie with drool dripping from its gaping mouth lunged and grabbed Qiao Gaogao’s ankle. The momentum sent Qiao Gaogao and Yinxi tumbling forward.
“Senior!”
Qiao Gaogao cried out in panic, terrified that Yinxi might get hurt. At the critical moment, disregarding the risk of twisting her ankle, she twisted her body to cushion Yinxi’s fall. Then, she swiftly kicked the zombie, freeing her foot.
“Grrr!” Yinxi’s anxious growls prompted Qiao Gaogao to roll aside, narrowly avoiding another zombie’s pounce. Without hesitation, she punched and shattered their heads, splattering brains and blood all over herself.
Still lying on the ground, Yinxi stared blankly at the scene. Even though she had witnessed it many times before, she couldn’t help but feel a sympathetic ache in her own head, as if it might burst like a watermelon at any moment.
After dealing with the two zombies, Qiao Gaogao scooped Yinxi up from the ground and resumed her frantic sprint. Her smoke-gray plaid skirt billowed gracefully in the sunlight. Who would have thought that beneath such brilliant sunshine, such a bloody and violent scene would unfold?
Qiao Gaogao rushed into the administrative building with Yinxi in her arms. The first floor offered no place to hide, so she dashed straight to the second floor, found an unlocked office, and slipped inside. The moment she closed the door, the slight relief she felt made her realize just how tense her muscles had become.
The chaotic noises of the zombies followed close behind, but fortunately, the two had taken refuge in the office. With their targets gone, the zombies began to wander aimlessly.
Qiao Gaogao settled the somewhat stiff Yinxi into a chair, then carefully drew the curtains closed.
“Buzz, buzz, buzz!”
The vibration of her phone echoed from the small bag at her waist, startling Qiao Gaogao. She quickly unzipped it, pressed the volume button to mute the sound, narrowly avoiding the disastrous scenario of the ringtone alerting the zombies outside and causing them to break in.
After glancing at the caller ID, Qiao Gaogao hung up the call, switched her phone to silent mode, and hurried back to Yinxi’s side.
“Grrr!”
A low growl and Yinxi’s slightly fearful flinch at her approach made Qiao Gaogao freeze mid-step.
Ahhh! Senpai really is afraid of me now!
