She’s Fiercer Than Zombies - Chapter 12
At bedtime, Yinxi lay stiffly on the mattress, her cloudy eyes staring blankly at the ceiling while an aura of deathly despair permeated her entire being.
“What’s wrong? Can’t sleep, Senior?” Qiao Gaogao turned sideways and pulled Yinxi into an embrace, draping one leg over her like a koala clinging to its tree.
Yinxi remained silent, her mind replaying past lessons about maintaining dignity and self-respect.
What was she doing now? Not only had she been seen completely exposed, but she was also sharing a bed with Gaogao.
Yet Gaogao’s embrace felt incredibly comforting.
Just as Yinxi wrestled with her internal moral conflict, Qiao Gaogao suddenly planted a loud kiss on her cheek, giggling foolishly.
“Goodnight kiss, Senior!”
“…”
Yinxi subtly assessed her own rigid body, her eyes filled with utter confusion.
Did Qiao Gaogao have necrophiliac tendencies?
How could she bring herself to kiss her?
Even as a zombie herself, Yinxi found this behavior extreme, how could Gaogao act so unaffected?
Suddenly, darkness enveloped her vision as a soft warmth covered her eyelids. The fresh, sweet scent of Gaogao’s recent shower lingered in the air.
Mmm… Gaogao smells so nice.
Yinxi’s thoughts wandered aimlessly as she felt an itching sensation at her teeth, an urge to bite something.
Maybe she should find a chew toy to gnaw on tomorrow.
Exhausted from the day’s struggles, Qiao Gaogao had already fallen asleep. No matter how energetic she usually was, fighting through hordes of zombies all day had drained her both mentally and physically.
But Yinxi, with her eyes still covered, couldn’t sleep. Perhaps zombies didn’t need rest, she felt no drowsiness at all, simply lying there motionless.
Qiao Gaogao stared at the magma before her, the scorching heat waves making her entire body burn up. Her moisture gradually evaporated as she desperately searched for an exit, yet found none. She began to fear she’d completely dehydrate, becoming a desiccated corpse forever trapped in this nightmarish place.
Confusion gripped her hadn’t she just been sleeping with her senior? Why was she suddenly in this hellscape?
Where was Senior? If she was here, could her senior be in danger too?
Frustration and anxiety overwhelmed Gaogao, but dehydration left her powerless. Feverish and weak, she could barely lift a finger.
Was this really where she’d meet her end? She still had family, a lover, friends, how heartbroken they’d be if she disappeared!
Remembering her senior’s adorably clueless expression as a zombie, she worried: who would care for her if Gaogao were gone?
After what felt like an eternity near complete desiccation, Gaogao struggled to open her eyes, but her eyelids weighed like lead.
Sobs caught in her throat, she didn’t want to die! She was still young, with so much left to live for, so many cherished people counting on her. How could she die here?
Faintly, she heard her senior’s growls and her parents’ frantic voices echoing in her ears, bringing a sliver of clarity to her fading consciousness.
“Mom!Dad!Senior!”
Qiao Gaogao murmured, her cheeks flushed and burning as she struggled to open her eyes bit by bit. As she did, she felt the intense heat gradually receding, only to be replaced by a thick, overwhelming aura of killing intent that swept over her, completely erasing the scorching sensation.
Despite the heavy killing aura, Qiao Gaogao felt no discomfort. Instead, it seemed entirely under her control.
As all the killing intent surged into her body, her nearly depleted form felt as if it had been nourished by sweet dew, quickly replenishing itself. All the previous discomfort vanished without a trace in an instant!
“Growl, growl!”
“Gaogao, Gaogao, are you okay?”
Her eyes, which had just opened, quickly regained focus. A flash of white light passed through her pupils before they returned to their deep, dark state.
“Senior? Mom? Dad?”
Coming back to her senses, Qiao Gaogao looked around the now brightly lit room and saw the anxious, worried faces of Yinxi and her parents. She was bewildered. What had happened? Why were her parents in her room?
Recalling the dream, she had just experienced, Qiao Gaogao shuddered. It felt so real she had truly believed she was going to die in that underground world filled with magma.
“How are you? Are you feeling unwell anywhere?” Qiao Mu Yi checked Qiao Gaogao’s condition and, finding nothing wrong, showed a hint of confusion. Earlier, she had been burning up and flushed all over, but now there was no trace of it.
“Not at all,” Qiao Gaogao replied, then widened her eyes slightly as if realizing something. “Did I have a fever?”
“Yes! Do you have any idea how much you scared Yinxi?” Qiao Mu Yi tapped Qiao Gaogao’s forehead. They had all been terrified. Early in the morning, before anyone was fully awake, they heard the growls of zombies. The commotion was so intense that she thought the city was under siege.
Rushing out of bed and pulling open the door, she saw Yinxi stumbling and staggering, desperately trying to reach them. Yinxi’s urgent growls were accompanied by countless falls, leaving her arms and legs bruised and battered.
Seeing Yinxi in such a state, Qiao Mu Yi knew something was wrong. Especially since her usually clingy daughter was nowhere to be seen, it was most likely that something had happened to her. Without wasting time, she picked up Yinxi and rushed into Gaogao’s room. The sight of Gaogao burning up and flushed red shocked them all. No matter what they tried, they couldn’t bring her temperature down, which only added to their panic.
Qiao Gaogao quickly turned to Yinxi, who was staring at her intently as if afraid something might happen to her again. Her heart swelled with a mix of sweetness and sorrow. She grabbed Yinxi’s hand and gently shook it, giving her a bright, reassuring smile.
“Senior, I’m fine. Look, I’m perfectly okay now.”
“Growl, growl!”
Yinxi was deeply aggrieved. No one knew how terrified she had been when she discovered Qiao Gaogao’s fever. The way Gaogao had burned up was so similar to how she herself had turned into a zombie, and she had been terrified that Gaogao would suddenly transform just like she had.
“I scared you,” Qiao Gaogao said tenderly, pulling her senior into her arms to comfort her. She added softly, “I won’t let it happen again. Don’t worry~”
The unabashedly affectionate display made Qiao’s parents roll their eyes. They had been scared too, but she hadn’t bothered to comfort them. Truly, once you have a wife, you forget your mother.
“What exactly happened?” Qiao Mu Yi asked, seeing that the young couple had finally calmed down.
Qiao Gaogao hugged Yinxi and looked up in confusion, thinking for a moment. “I don’t know either. I just dreamed I was in an underground magma layer, and I was so hot I felt like I was about to evaporate. Oh, right!”
As if suddenly remembering something, Qiao Gaogao tentatively reached out toward the fruit knife on the table.
Everyone was puzzled by her action, but the next second, the fruit knife shot toward Qiao Gaogao with a whoosh and landed steadily in her palm!
Witnessing this scene, the three of them were stunned.
Yinxi tilted her head and also tentatively reached out toward the fruit knife, but it remained firmly in Gaogao’s hand.
Pouting, she wondered why she couldn’t control it even though she had also felt the heat.
Qiao Gaogao almost burst out laughing at Yinxi’s action and explained, “Just when I thought I was about to evaporate, I heard your voices. I tried hard to wake up, and then I felt a sharp, killing aura enveloping me. After that, I woke up.”
“See, after waking up, I realized I have a certain affinity with metal.” Qiao Gaogao manipulated the fruit knife, changing its shape until it turned into a Pikachu-style metal toy.
The three of them stared blankly at the Pikachu. Finally, Qiao Muyi hesitantly asked, “Did you evolve some kind of supernatural ability?”
“Metal-based supernatural ability?” Qiao’s father added.
Yinxi nodded in agreement.
Looking so obedient and dazed, she was so adorable that Qiao Gaogao immediately made the Pikachu dance for her.
Qiao’s parents: “…”
Yinxi’s eyes sparkled.
