She’s Fiercer Than Zombies - Chapter 11
Everyone returned unscathed, and to celebrate, they all gathered together in the evening. They brought out hotpot base from the supplies they had retrieved, paired it with an assortment of ingredients to cook in the broth, and channeled the day’s fears and anxieties into their appetites, indulging in the feast.
In these uncertain times, when death could come at any moment, having so many people gathered together like this was nothing short of a glimmer of hope.
Because Yinxi was different from the others, Qi Ji specially pan-fried a steak for her. Watching her struggle to cut the steak, Qiao Gaogao took the knife and fork and cut it into bite-sized pieces for her.
“Ho ho!” Thank you.
Seeing her senior enjoy the meal so contentedly, Qiao Gaogao made up her mind to learn cooking from her senior brother. That way, in the future, she could prepare meals for her senior herself!
When the newcomers first saw Yinxi, they were frightened upon realizing she was a zombie. But they soon noticed she was different from the others, and their fear gradually subsided. Now, watching her eat a properly cooked steak, they felt even more at ease.
Just as everyone was enjoying their meal, their phones simultaneously chimed with a notification. They pulled them out to see an emergency message from the government:
“Attention, all citizens: Due to an unknown magnetic field, many people have undergone physical mutations, resulting in extreme aggression and bloodlust. These mutated individuals feel no pain and cannot be harmed by ordinary attacks. When confronting them, targeting the head is the most effective method.
The government is actively establishing safe zones. Please stay indoors as much as possible and avoid going out. Have faith in the government and the nation. Together, we will overcome this crisis!”
Reading the message, everyone fell silent. While they all hoped the government could quickly stabilize the situation, their trip outside today had shown them the harsh reality. Even the police station they passed had been overrun, indicating that the country’s situation was far from optimistic.
“Don’t lose heart,” Qiao Mu Yi spoke up. “If the government can control the situation, that’s good. But even if they can’t do it immediately, we must strive to survive!”
“Right!”
“Exactly! We’re alive and well, how could we let those things defeat us?”
Spirits lifted once again. After finishing their meal and resting well that night, they would prepare to set out for H City the next day.
H City was quite a distance from Z City, and no one knew what they might encounter along the way. They had already learned to cherish each day as if it were their last.
After dinner, Qiao Gaogao temporarily entrusted Yinxi to Qi Miao’s care and went alone to her parents’ room.
“What?!” her parents exclaimed in shock.
“You heard me correctly. I plan to take my senior with me to search for her parents,” Qiao Gaogao said earnestly.
Her parents frowned deeply. “But you said you couldn’t get in touch with her parents, didn’t you?” No contact meant they were likely either dead or turned into zombies.
“But I have to confirm it for myself,” Qiao Gaogao replied, her shoulders slumping. “Since the government mentioned it’s due to some unknown magnetic field, it’s likely that my senior’s condition was caused by the same influence. Besides, her parents are experts in biological sciences they could examine her condition.”
Although Qiao Gaogao didn’t understand why the magnetic field only affected certain people, Yinxi was special even among those affected. Perhaps she might have some kind of turning point?
Mr. and Mrs. Qiao sighed in unison. They knew their daughter’s temperament well since she had spoken like this, she must have already made up her mind. If they tried to stop her, she might just run off with Yinxi one day.
“How can you forget your mother for your wife at such a young age!” Qiao Muyi poked her forehead resentfully. Would there still be a place for them in her heart if this continued?
“How could that be? You’re my dearest, sweetest mom!” Qiao Gaogao threw herself into Qiao Muyi’s arms, acting coquettishly.
Qiao Muyi: “…”
Though it was a compliment, why did it sound so off?!
“You can go, but you must ensure your safety, understand?” Though Qiao’s father doted on his child, he was never ambiguous when it came to serious matters.
“Understood! Officer!” Qiao Gaogao playfully saluted.
Qiao’s father rolled his eyes at her, growing more and more exasperated as he looked at her, until he finally shooed her out of the room.
After raising this cabbage for nineteen years, why did it feel like he’d been raising it for someone else?
Qiao Gaogao emerged from her parents’ room with a grin, then went to Qi Miao’s place to pick up her senior. On the way back, she hummed a cheerful tune, clearly in high spirits.
Yinxi rested her head on Qiao Gaogao’s shoulder, listening to her happy humming. She thought that perhaps, in these times, Qiao Gaogao was the only one who could still be so carefree. How could someone be so blissfully unaware?
Back in the room, Qiao Gaogao proudly presented a newly released smartphone, grinning mischievously.
“Senior, look! I brought you a phone!”
She had promised to get her senior a phone before leaving, and of course, she hadn’t forgotten!
Yinxi tilted her head as she looked at the phone, unsure what use it could possibly serve her now. But since Qiao Gaogao had gone out of her way to bring it for her, she would naturally treasure it.
Qiao Gaogao helped Yinxi transfer the data from her old phone to the new one, swapped the SIM card, and set up the lock screen password still using 090222.
Staring at the numbers, Qiao Gaogao couldn’t shake the feeling that they looked familiar and muttered, “Senior, what does this password mean?”
Logically, lock screen passwords usually held some special significance for the owner, right?
Hearing this, Yinxi acted like a cat caught misbehaving, guiltily turning her head away and sitting stiffly upright, a clear sign she was hiding something.
“Senior, you’re feeling guilty, aren’t you?” Qiao Gaogao grinned, sitting cross-legged on the carpet, hugging Yinxi’s legs and resting her head on them affectionately. “Is it related to me?”
It wasn’t narcissism her senior’s reaction was just too strange! If Yinxi could still blush, Qiao Gaogao was sure she’d be bright red by now!
“Grrr!”
“Come on, tell me!” Qiao Gaogao clung to her legs, whining and insisting on an explanation.
“Grrr grrr grrr!”
A series of low growls made it clear that someone, flustered and guilty, was growing irritated. She pushed Qiao Gaogao’s hands away, stood up unsteadily, and stumbled toward the bed before collapsing face-down onto it.
Qiao Gaogao stared blankly at her movements not only was she stunned, but even Yinxi herself was bewildered.
Had she felt it correctly just now? She could walk?
Though still unsteady, she had genuinely taken two steps!
Shocked, Qiao Gaogao crawled to the edge of the bed, tilting her head as she lay on the mattress to meet Yinxi’s gaze, her almond-shaped eyes still dazed.
“Senior, even if you didn’t want to tell me, you didn’t have to get so flustered that you suddenly learned how to walk, did you?”
“Grrr!”
Yinxi, flushed with embarrassment and annoyance, buried her entire face in the blanket, refusing to show herself.
Learning to walk under such circumstances was definitely not something to be proud of!
“Hehe, Senior, you’re so adorable!” Qiao Gaogao finally snapped out of her daze, reaching out to ruffle Yinxi’s hair affectionately, her heart swelling with sweetness.
This reaction clearly meant the password was absolutely related to her!
090222, hmm, 0902.
As if struck by a sudden realization, Qiao Gaogao widened her eyes in delight and exclaimed, “Senior! Is 0902 the date we first met at the start of the school year?”
Ahhh, how could she be so slow-witted, only realizing it now!
Yinxi: “…”
She buried her face even deeper into the blanket, as if trying to suffocate herself.
“Hmm, If 0902 is the date we first met, then what does 22 mean?” Qiao Gaogao stroked her chin, but she couldn’t figure it out after all, the year didn’t match.
“Grrr grrr!” Time for a bath!
“Hehe, I’ll definitely figure it out!” Qiao Gaogao picked Yinxi up and headed toward the bathroom, boasting cheerfully as she walked.
Yinxi scrunched up her face and growled at her again.
