She’s Fiercer Than Zombies - Chapter 10
Watching their series of preparations, someone finally raised a hand and voiced Yinxi’s confusion.
“What if the government manages to regain control of the situation soon?”
Once order is restored, the first thing they’d do is settle scores! Armed groups like theirs would undoubtedly be at the top of the list for retaliation!
“Oh, what’s there to worry about? We haven’t harmed any innocent people. We’re just protecting ourselves!” Dad Qiao said nonchalantly. “Isn’t there a term called ‘self-defense’? If zombies are so fierce they want to tear me apart, why can’t I use unconventional means to take them down?”
His words were met with a moment of silence, followed by scattered applause.
Good, very right this would become the foundation of their beliefs!
In the end, they agreed to first head to the shooting club run by their aunt to gather some equipment, then begin rescuing people nearby.
With a plan in place, everyone wasted no time taking action. Those who couldn’t go out were assigned to stay behind at the martial arts school to provide support.
“Senior, stay here and behave. Wait for me to come back,” Qiao Gaogao reminded Yinxi worriedly. It definitely wasn’t feasible to bring her senior along on this mission, so leaving her at the martial arts school where others could look after her was the best option.
“Roar.” Though Yinxi’s voice was muffled, she didn’t stubbornly insist on going. After all, not only would she be unable to help, but she might even become a burden.
“Senior, keep your phone with you. When I come back, I’ll definitely bring you a new one!” Qiao Gaogao placed Yinxi’s phone in her hand. Earlier, she had checked and noticed that the messages she’d sent to Yinxi’s parents had gone unanswered. With communications still functioning, the lack of response wasn’t a good sign.
“Roar.” Be careful.
“Mm-hmm, senior, wait for me to return!” Qiao Gaogao smiled brightly, feeling genuinely happy that her senior cared about her.
In the end, most of the group set out for the rescue mission. Not only did they aim to bring people back, but they also planned to gather as many supplies as possible during the trip. Qi Miao was left in charge of managing affairs at the martial arts school. After all, they needed capable fighters to defend their base. If outsiders took advantage of their absence to break in, it would put them at a severe disadvantage.
Before setting off, everyone took protective measures. The martial arts school had plenty of weapons, and each person selected one they were comfortable with before boarding the vehicles in an orderly fashion.
Qiao Gaogao leaned out of the passenger window, waving at Yinxi, her almond-shaped eyes crinkling with a smile. She showed no signs of apprehension about the dangerous task ahead.
Watching the vehicles drive away one by one, Yinxi’s expression grew resolute. Staying at the martial arts school didn’t mean she would do nothing. With the help of the little girl’s mother, she began the arduous process of learning to walk again.
Since turning into a zombie, her body had stiffened significantly, especially her control over her legs, making it difficult for her to walk steadily.
Oh, right, the little girl was named Tongtong, and her mother was Zhou Yan. Since neither of them had family members to rescue, they were naturally assigned to stay behind at the martial arts school.
As she stumbled again, Zhou Yan quickly steadied Yinxi, while Tongtong also came over with concern to lend a hand. Seeing the bruises covering Yinxi’s body, she advised, “Sister Yin, if Sister Qiao sees you like this when she returns, she’ll be heartbroken.”
“Roar!”
Yinxi didn’t rest and continued attempting to take steps again and again. Though Qiao Gaogao would feel distressed, she couldn’t possibly rely on others to carry her for the rest of her life, could she? Even though she wasn’t paralyzed, her condition was worse than paralysis. For now, Qiao Gaogao might take care of her without complaint because of their new relationship, but what if she grew tired of it later?
So the best solution was to be able to take care of herself and lessen the burden on Qiao Gaogao.
“Sister Yin, rushing to walk isn’t the way. First, stand in place and practice controlling your leg movements,” Qi Miao advised as she approached.
Yinxi tilted her head, seeming to understand, and nodded. She stood on one leg while lifting, lowering, extending, and retracting the other leg adaptively.
Watching her practice so earnestly, Qi Miao smiled and sat cross-legged on the floor, saying cheerfully, “It’s a shame you can’t speak, or I’d love to hear about your love story with Gaogao.”
Yinxi looked up at her, surprised that this senior sister was so gossipy.
“Want to hear about Gaogao’s childhood?” Qi Miao grinned delightedly, adding temptingly, “She was especially adorable back then!”
“Roar!” Yinxi responded, indicating her interest.
“Gaogao was incredibly cute as a child, just like a doll. Everyone who saw her wanted to hold and play with her, and she never refused, no matter who picked her up, she’d laugh happily.”
Yinxi wrinkled her nose and let out a soft hum, feeling a bit jealous.
“But don’t let her cuteness fool you, she was fierce when she fought!” Qi Miao grimaced as if recalling something. “When she was little, she’d use anything in a fight.”
This piqued not only Yinxi’s curiosity but also that of Zhou Yan and her daughter, who turned to look at her.
Qi Miao chuckled, “She had no sense of martial ethics when fighting as a kid. If she was losing, she’d get desperate and bite. All of us got bitten by her more than once.”
Yinxi’s eyes widened slightly, struggling to imagine Qiao Gaogao resorting to biting during a fight. From what she’d seen earlier when Qiao Gaogao fought zombies, her combat skills didn’t seem like someone who would lose all dignity and bite.
“Hard to believe, right?” Qi Miao snorted. “That’s because during her teething phase, she still dared to bite and ended up knocking out her own tooth. Her mouth was full of blood, it was terrifying. After that lesson, she never dared to use her teeth again.”
Yinxi: “…”
Zhou Yan and her daughter: “…”
From then on, Yinxi learned quite a few stories about Qiao Gaogao’s childhood from Qi Miao. Later, Qiao Gaogao deeply regretted leaving Yinxi at the martial arts school under Qi Miao’s care just one session of “care” had completely ruined her image.
–
Meanwhile, after setting out from the martial arts school, Qiao Gaogao and the others headed straight for the suburban shooting club. They had called her aunt in advance to confirm that they would also be preparing early. Once the two groups met up, they would finally head together to the resort in H City.
When the group arrived at the club, their aunt was standing imposingly at the entrance, her full gear making her look like someone not to be trifled with. Outside, several bodies lay on the ground clearly human, not zombies.
Qiao’s parents and Qiao Gaogao were the first to step out of the vehicle. Pointing at the bodies, they asked, “What happened here?”
Their aunt snorted coldly and said with a hint of disdain, “Just some petty troublemakers who thought they could seize my club now that it’s the apocalypse.”
Clearly, they hadn’t succeeded and had instead ended up on the receiving end of her bullets.
Hearing this, no one in the group reacted much. Trying to forcibly take over a club that already had an owner was a fool’s errand, and they deserved their fate.
Finally, their aunt led them inside the club, where three male and two female shooting instructors were busy gathering as many useful items as possible.
“Auntie! You’re amazing!” Qiao Gaogao’s eyes lit up as she stared at the firearms in the warehouse.
“Of course! Who do you think I am?” Their aunt ruffled her hair and raised her arm, declaring, “Everyone, gear up now!”
Qiao Gaogao was the first to dive in. After changing into her new gear, she felt an overwhelming sense of security.
However, aside from the martial arts school members, Zhao Dan and the others had never handled guns before. Although everyone was issued a handgun for safety, they were cautioned not to fire recklessly to avoid wasting ammunition, leaving the shooting to those more experienced.
To prevent gunshots from attracting more zombies, silencers were attached to every firearm. Once everything was ready, the group set off again, their numbers now significantly larger.
The zombie outbreak had been so sudden that many people had turned into zombies without any chance to prepare. During their rescue efforts, Qiao Gaogao and her companions encountered numerous challenges, but everyone pushed themselves to adapt as quickly as possible. While ensuring their own safety, they managed to rescue 10 out of 13 family members awaiting help.
The remaining three were in areas with extremely dense populations, which meant an overwhelming number of zombies. Qiao Mu ultimately decided not to take the risk.
With so many zombies, entering those areas would likely result in them being surrounded immediately. In that scenario, they wouldn’t be saving anyone, they’d just be offering themselves up as a meal.
Although everyone felt somewhat disheartened, they understood the reasoning and shifted their focus to gathering supplies.
A few brave individuals even broke into a car dealership and drove out two RVs, while others commandeered a large truck, dramatically increasing their storage capacity.
When they left the dealership, they also brought along a few survivors who joined their supply-gathering team.
This group moved like bandits, stripping every place they passed of half its resources, leaving the rest for other survivors who might come searching later.
By the time they returned, dusk had fallen. They came back in a grand procession, laden with supplies, and the sight of such abundance filled everyone with immense confidence.
“Senior!” Qiao Gaogao’s first action upon returning was to search for Yinxi. The moment she saw her, her face broke into a radiant smile.
“I’m back!”
“Roar!” It’s good that you’re back.
From this day forward, they would truly embark on their journey through the apocalypse.
