She Pretends to be A, She Pretends to be O - Chapter 4
The Ning family was a renowned local tycoon with billions in assets, owning numerous companies spanning a wide range of industries.
When Ning Xuechu first saw the Ning family’s villa, her eyes widened in astonishment.
Despite trying hard to suppress her curiosity, she couldn’t help but glance around furtively.
The place was enormous far larger than the wealthy households depicted in TV dramas completely beyond her imagination.
“Xuechu, this is your room. You’ll be staying here from now on. No matter what happens, you can always come to me. I live right next door,” An Jianqing said as she showed Ning Xuechu around, finally stopping in front of a beautifully decorated room.
Truthfully, such tasks could have been left to the household staff.
But considering this was Ning Xuechu’s first time here, and that she was the most familiar person to her, it was best for An Jianqing to personally guide her.
“Thank you,” Ning Xuechu murmured, her voice soft and obedient.
She was like a rabbit venturing into an unfamiliar forest filled with curiosity about everything, yet cautious at the same time.
“Xuechu, get some rest,” An Jianqing said with a smile.
As she turned to leave, her sleeve was suddenly caught.
Glancing back, she met a pair of timid eyes, bright yet hesitant, as if afraid of being abandoned.
A pang of sympathy flashed through An Jianqing’s heart, and she offered a reassuring smile.
“Can I… call you ‘sister’?” Ning Xuechu bit her lip lightly.
As soon as the words left her mouth, tears shimmered in her eyes like moonlight dancing on rippling water.
It was breathtaking.
An Jianqing’s eyes flickered, a surge of joy spreading through her.
She had searched for this younger sister for over a decade, hoping one day to hear that word ‘sister’ so she could finally live up to her adoptive parents’ expectations.
“Of course. We’re the closest people in this world,” An Jianqing tilted her head slightly, her gaze overflowing with tenderness.
“Sister!” Ning Xuechu smiled happily, her eyes glimmering before she finally gathered the courage to hug the Alpha in front of her.
She didn’t dare hold on too tightly, just a light embrace.
Even so, the Alpha’s warm, pleasant scent enveloped her completely.
It made her reluctant to let go.
At such close proximity, she could feel the softness and sweetness of this body even more.
If she were a real Omega embracing a high-ranking Alpha, her heart would likely race, her cheeks flushing.
Unfortunately, she wasn’t a real Omega.
“Xuechu, go take a look and see if you like the room. If there’s anything you’d like changed, just tell me,” An Jianqing said gently, reaching out to stroke Ning Xuechu’s soft hair.
Seeing that Ning Xuechu didn’t resist, her smile brightened even more.
“Okay, sister!” Ning Xuechu nodded obediently, her eyes sparkling like stars as she uttered the word ‘sister.’
An Jianqing froze for a moment before quickly regaining her composure.
Though her younger sister was only an ordinary-level Omega, her delicate, exquisite features were no less striking than those of a high-level Omega.
Even dressed plainly, she would stand out in a crowd.
The only issue was that she was far too thin.
When An Jianqing hugged her, she could clearly feel how frail she was, she would need to be nourished properly from now on.
Ning Xuechu gazed at the dreamlike room before her and covered her lips in delight.
She turned to look at An Jianqing, her eyes brimming with gratitude and joy. “Sister, thank you. I’ve never seen such a beautiful room before.”
“There’s no need to be so formal. I’m just glad you like it,” An Jianqing replied with a gentle smile, her lips curving slightly as her eyes shone with affection.
The days of meticulous preparation had finally been rewarded with this moment of approval, filling her heart with a warm sense of fulfillment.
“I love it, I really do. No one has ever been this kind to me.” Ning Xuechu blinked rapidly, tears threatening to spill over.
Her words came out in broken fragments, clearly choked with emotion.
An Jianqing’s heart ached at the sight, and she softened her voice to comfort her. “Xuechu, don’t worry. Everything from the past is over now.”
She had thoroughly investigated the matter. The couple who had adopted Ning Xuechu were kind-hearted people who, having no children of their own, had raised her as their own daughter.
Tragically, they had died in a car accident.
After her adoptive parents’ passing, Ning Xuechu had been forced to live with her uncle’s family.
But with a child of their own, they had treated her poorly.
When An Jianqing had learned of this, fury had coursed through her, and for a moment, she had considered countless ways to seek justice.
But in the end, she had calmed down.
After all, they had raised Ning Xuechu for years. She couldn’t repay kindness with ingratitude.
Originally, she had planned to offer them a sum of money as compensation for their care. But after witnessing the woman’s cruel and excessive harshness toward Ning Xuechu, she had abandoned the idea.
She would let bygones be bygones but if they dared mistreat Ning Xuechu again, she wouldn’t hesitate to act.
“Sister, thank you.” Ning Xuechu sobbed openly, crystalline tears streaking her face.
Her thin frame made her appear even more pitiful.
An Jianqing’s eyes brimmed with tenderness as she smiled reassuringly. “Xuechu, get some rest. I hope you’ll adjust to life here soon.”
Ning Xuechu nodded vigorously, her lips pressed together in a demure smile.
Returning to her room and closing the door, she casually wiped away her tears.
The room was decorated warmly, exuding a girlish charm, but Ning Xuechu had no mind to appreciate it.
The timid, obedient expression she had worn earlier had vanished, replaced by an icy mask. Her once-lively eyes now gleamed coldly.
Everything in this room seemed to have been prepared in advance meaning this woman had been confident she would return to the Ning family.
This was all part of her carefully orchestrated game.
“I’ve seen tricks like this before. I won’t fall for them again,” Ning Xuechu scoffed under her breath, her gaze sweeping over the room with disdain.
When her uncle’s family had taken her in, they had put on a show of warmth and sincerity in front of others, vowing to raise her as their own.
But within days, they had shamelessly seized her adoptive parents’ inheritance and subjected her to endless abuse.
This An Jianqing was no different from them.
She was just trying to manipulate her for her own gain.
She wouldn’t be fooled again.
After a week of living with the Ning family, Ning Xuechu had finally grown accustomed to her new identity.
Every morning, a lavish breakfast awaited her, served by attentive maids.
She no longer had to worry about going hungry or forcing herself to eat nothing but buns to save money until the mere thought of them made her nauseous.
A chauffeur drove her wherever she needed to go, sparing her the ordeal of squeezing into crowded buses like a sardine in a can, forced to endure the stench of strangers.
It all felt too good to be true yet it was undeniably real.
After breakfast, Ning Xuechu stepped out dressed in understated designer clothes, carrying her old backpack.
“Xuechu, I’ll take you to school today.” An Jianqing set down her utensils and elegantly dabbed the corners of her mouth with a silk handkerchief.
Upon hearing this, Ning Xuechu’s eyes flickered with delight before she timidly lowered her head and murmured, “Sister, don’t you have work? Won’t this trouble you too much?”
“It’s fine. I don’t have much to do today, so going in a bit later won’t matter.” An Jianqing smiled gently, her expression warm.
With that, she headed out first.
A small thrill of excitement flashed across Ning Xuechu’s face as she obediently followed.
Settling into the passenger seat, she fastened her seatbelt, her flickering gaze still tinged with nervousness at the thought of inconveniencing others. Softly, she said, “Sister, maybe I should just go by myself.”
“Xuechu, you don’t need to be so polite with me. Today, I want to take you. I’ve been so busy lately, I haven’t been able to take proper care of you.” An Jianqing’s voice carried a trace of guilt as she spoke.
Ning Xuechu quickly shook her head, her thin face filled with anxious unease. “Sister, please don’t say that. You’ve been so good to me. If it weren’t for you, I would be…”
Her voice cracked toward the end, and she bit her lip hard to keep the tears at bay.
An Jianqing disliked weakness and crying.
Yet every time she saw the cautious look in the girl’s eyes, an ache stirred in her heart.
Over the years, Ning Xuechu had suffered too much injustice, and An Jianqing wanted to make up for all of it.
“Xuechu, I’m your sister. It’s only right that I treat you well.” An Jianqing gave a soft laugh as she started the car.
Ning Xuechu froze for a moment before the tears in her eyes grew even brighter.
She lowered her head, her long lashes veiling the unshed tears.
Her heart pounded fiercely in her chest.
Quietly, she clenched her fingers, her overgrown nails nearly digging into her palms. The slight pain gradually steadied her racing pulse.
Deep down, she knew those last words were a lie yet she couldn’t help but want to believe them.
But in this world, was there really someone who would care for her sincerely, without regard for wealth or status?
Ning Xuechu didn’t know. She bowed her head even lower, her grip tightening further.
An Jianqing noticed the small gesture.
She could sense the loneliness Ning Xuechu carried in the villa.
Even with servants attending to her, the girl’s heart was likely still filled with helplessness.
Every time she saw An Jianqing, a flicker of joy would cross her delicate face, as if a drowning person had found a lifeline.
The light in her eyes always pierced An Jianqing’s heart, making her want to do even more to make amends.
“Xuechu, we’re here.” An Jianqing opened the car door with a gentle smile.
Her striking beauty and elegant, noble demeanor immediately drew many gazes.
As Ning Xuechu stepped out, she felt the weight of curious, envious stares.
Once, she had been the one looking at others with that same envy as they stepped out of cars.
Now, she was the one being admired, and a faint happiness bloomed in her chest.
“Sister, I’m off to class. Drive safely,” Ning Xuechu said obediently, wearing a well-behaved smile.
Warmth filled An Jianqing’s heart as she reached out to stroke Ning Xuechu’s hair. “Make sure to eat well at school. Buy yourself good food, don’t skimp or deprive yourself.”
At those last words, Ning Xuechu’s heart clenched.
It seemed many details about her had been thoroughly investigated.
The question was whether this Alpha before her knew about her pretense of being an Omega.
Ning Xuechu felt a pang of unease, but she still managed to flash an adorable smile. “I understand, sister. I’ll eat properly.”
An Jianqing was incredibly generous with her, giving her fifty thousand in monthly allowance.
On her second day with the Ning family, An had taken her shopping for all sorts of luxury items, spending money with effortless ease as if it were just a string of numbers.
She had to admit, an Alpha who spent so freely was naturally likable.
But she wasn’t like those naive Omegas.
What she wanted was far more than just pocket money.
The Ning family’s fortune, she was determined to claim it.
A faint smile curled at Ning Xuechu’s lips, but when her gaze landed on a certain spot, her eyes turned icy.
