She Pretends to be A, She Pretends to be O - Chapter 2
Ning Xuechu lowered her eyes and carefully opened the door.
She didn’t open it wide, just enough for the woman to slip through.
The moment the woman stepped inside, Ning Xuechu swiftly closed the door and asked warily, “Who are you? Why are you looking for me?”
The woman didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she surveyed the shabby little room.
There was no air conditioning, no underfloor heating, just a dim lamp casting a faint, sorrowful glow over the space.
The cramped room held only the most basic necessities, with a simple cloth wardrobe containing a few worn-out clothes.
Though run-down, everything was neatly arranged.
A pang of heartache flashed through the woman’s beautiful eyes.
When she turned and saw Ning Xuechu’s wary, deer-like gaze, her heart softened instantly.
The woman nearly stepped forward to embrace her but stopped herself at the last moment. Instead, she curved her lips into a gentle smile and said softly, “I’m your sister. My name is An Jianqing, an S-rank Alpha.”
Her voice carried a barely concealed excitement and joy.
“I don’t have a sister, let alone an S-rank Alpha sister.” Ning Xuechu cut her off sharply, her thin chest heaving violently, as if provoked.
Noticing the shock in the woman’s eyes, she gritted her teeth and repeated, “I’m an orphan. Just an ordinary omega. I have no family.”
Every word was spoken with deliberate force, the corners of her clear, dark eyes tinged red with emotion.
Under the dim light, those eyes shimmered with tears that sent a pang through the heart.
A cold draft seeped through the window cracks, but Ning Xuechu didn’t feel it. Her gaze remained stubbornly fixed on the woman before her. “My parents are dead. I have no family, and I don’t need one.”
The woman heard the bitterness and resentment in her words, her heart aching fiercely. Softening her voice, she soothed, “Xuechu, those were your adoptive parents. Your real parents were the former chairman of Ning Corporation. Your father was an A+-rank Alpha, your mother an A+-rank omega. Before they passed, they made me promise to find you.”
“How could two A+-ranks possibly produce an ordinary omega?” Ning Xuechu’s wariness deepened, her voice turning slightly hoarse, like a small animal sensing danger. “What do you really want?”
“Xuechu, don’t be nervous. I mean no harm.” The woman quickly reassured her, pulling a stack of documents from her expensive bag and placing them on the table. “Look. These are the proofs.”
Ning Xuechu’s eyes flickered.
She glanced at the woman, confirming she wouldn’t approach, before cautiously picking up the papers.
Her pupils dilated as she skimmed through them, her cold fingers trembling.
The documents showed a 99% DNA match between her and the late chairman of Ning Corporation.
That number meant she was his daughter.
Ning Xuechu’s breath hitched, her hands shaking so badly she nearly dropped the papers.
She tried to speak, but her throat felt strangled, no sound coming out.
“Xuechu, you’re the little sister I’ve been searching for all these years. Come home with me.” The woman’s voice beside her was warm and tender.
Laced with coaxing and an intoxicating allure.
With a soft thud, the documents slipped from Ning Xuechu’s fingers and fell to the hard floor.
She shook her head, a bitter smile playing at her lips, and screamed with all her might, “This game isn’t fun, not fun at all. Just because you’re an Alpha with money, you think you can play with people like this?”
Each accusation was laced with heart-wrenching sobs, as if she were teetering on the edge of collapse, ready to break completely at any moment.
Hearing the commotion, someone outside immediately burst through the door.
Before the bodyguards could speak, An Jianqing turned sharply, her gaze icy as she commanded, “Get out!”
The bodyguards were startled, exchanging glances before filing out in unison.
Only the two of them remained in the room, the cold wind mercilessly seeping through the cracks.
An Jianqing stood still for a moment, then took off her coat and draped it over Ning Xuechu’s slender shoulders, saying softly, “Xuechu, I know this is hard for you to accept right now. It’s okay. I’ll give you two days to process it. My business card is in the pocket. Call me when you’ve made up your mind.”
The pleasant scent of an Alpha wafted over, causing Ning Xuechu’s body to tense instinctively. She stepped back, and the coat, still carrying the Alpha’s warmth, fell to the floor.
Lowering her eyes, Ning Xuechu didn’t respond, her eyes reddening as she clenched her teeth to hold back tears.
Seeing this, An Jianqing realized her Alpha pheromones were affecting the Omega.
But an Omega should be drawn to her, not repelled. Still, considering Ning Xuechu needed time to process the shocking news, she didn’t dwell on it.
“Xuechu, I’ll leave now. Call me anytime you need me,” An Jianqing said from the doorway, watching the dazed figure inside.
Ning Xuechu looked up, her gaze gradually focusing until it reflected the Alpha’s silhouette.
The door closed slowly, leaving her alone once more.
Ning Xuechu stared at the coat, picked it up, and threw it into the trash before heading out to work.
She felt disoriented, unsure how she had even left the house or whether she had taken the cheapest route.
By the time she snapped out of it, she was already washing dishes at her part-time job.
Her hands moved mechanically as she stared at the water in the sink, her emotions as turbulent as the swirling liquid.
If someone had told her she was the lost daughter of a wealthy family, that her parents had been searching for her all these years, leaving behind a vast fortune for her to inherit, she would have scoffed at the absurdity.
Yet now, something even more dramatic than a TV drama was unfolding in her life.
All she had to do was say yes, and she would become a wealthy heiress with endless riches.
No more depending on others, no more wearing tattered clothes and enduring ridicule.
She wouldn’t even need to work hard to enjoy the life others strived for.
Ning Xuechu was tempted and overwhelmed.
At a time when she needed guidance, she had no one to confide in.
“Xiao Ning, focus on your work. Don’t space out, or the supervisor will scold you,” the older woman washing dishes beside her reminded.
Ning Xuechu snapped back to attention and concentrated on her task.
By the time her shift ended past eleven, only the last bus remained.
She looked down at her fingers, wrinkled from hours in the water.
She forced a bitter smile, the corners of her lips trembling slightly.
A cold gust of wind blew past, and Ning Xuechu instinctively hugged herself tighter, quickening her pace toward the bus stop.
Gazing at the desolate, frost-laced streets, she still couldn’t shake the feeling that none of this was real.
The words spoken by that woman replayed relentlessly in her mind, battering against her already troubled heart.
Ning Xuechu took a deep breath, trying to dispel the chaos within.
She turned her head slightly, a luxurious private car had pulled up beside her.
The window rolled down, revealing a delicate, beautiful face, the very Alpha woman who had unsettled her thoughts.
An Jianqing.
“Xuechu, get in. I’ll take you home,” An Jianqing said softly from the driver’s seat.
Her fingers, resting elegantly on the steering wheel, bore meticulously manicured nails, exuding grace and refinement.
Ning Xuechu’s eyes flickered before she lowered her head without a word, her pale fingers clutching tightly at the thin fabric of her clothes.
Noticing this, An Jianqing smiled gently, stepped out of the car herself, and walked over to open the passenger door. “Come on, it’s warm inside,” she coaxed.
Her soft voice carried a faint, soothing fragrance that brushed against Ning Xuechu’s ear, sending a shiver down her spine. She took a step back.
Under An Jianqing’s warm gaze, she finally ducked her head and climbed into the car.
The interior was cozy, filled with the gentle hum of relaxing music.
Yet Ning Xuechu couldn’t relax. Her eyes remained fixed ahead, hands stiffly placed on her lap.
She sat rigidly, spine straight as a rod, like a wary cat on high alert.
“Xuechu, there’s no need to be so tense,” An Jianqing said with a chuckle, leaning closer.
A pleasant scent enveloped her, the unmistakable aura of an Alpha.
Ning Xuechu stiffened instantly, her heartbeat accelerating.
Her widened eyes locked onto the breathtakingly beautiful profile now mere inches away.
As the Alpha drew nearer, her breath hitched, nearly stopping altogether.
With a soft click, An Jianqing straightened up, her eyes crinkling with warmth. “Seatbelt’s on. We’re heading off now. If you’re tired, feel free to rest. I’ll wake you when we arrive.”
Those brief seconds had left Ning Xuechu drenched in cold sweat.
The car started, gliding smoothly down the empty streets.
Ning Xuechu turned her head, watching the kaleidoscope of city lights outside the window as she sank into contemplation.
Countless times, she had envied others for moments like this, now it was happening to her.
Yet she felt no happiness, only endless dread and unease.
A pang of regret struck her. How had she so carelessly gotten into a stranger’s car?
Especially when that stranger was a high-ranking Alpha.
“Xuechu, would you like some milk tea?” An Jianqing asked softly, pulling the car to a stop.
Before Ning Xuechu could respond, she heard the door open and close beside her.
Watching the retreating figure disappear into the cold night, her gaze darkened.
After a moment, she pinched the back of her hand hard and muttered to herself, “She’s just buying you a drink. Are you really this easily moved by a stranger?”
The pain sharpened her senses, and her expression smoothed back into indifference.
When An Jianqing returned with the milk tea and handed it to her, she smiled. “You loved mango-flavored things as a child. I got you mango milk tea, hope you like it.”
“Thank you, but I’m allergic to mango,” Ning Xuechu replied politely yet distantly, not reaching out to take it.
She lowered her head, staring at the reddened spot on her back of her hand, suppressing the longing in her heart.
Hearing this, An Jianqing paused, then quickly swapped it for a peach-flavored drink. With a soft laugh, she asked, “You’re not allergic to peach, are you?”
Ning Xuechu swallowed hard, keeping her head down without answering.
Seeing this, a faint smile curled at An Jianqing’s lips. She reached out, took Ning Xuechu’s hesitant hand, and placed the peach milk tea in it.
The warmth instantly spread through her palm, the sweet scent of peaches lingering at the tip of her nose. Ning Xuechu suddenly felt her throat go dry.
She clenched her teeth, holding the drink close to her chest but didn’t take a sip.
It was just a cup of milk tea. She absolutely couldn’t let herself be fooled.
Watching her stubborn resistance, An Jianqing couldn’t help but find it a little endearing.
After dropping her off, An Jianqing leaned out the car window with a gentle smile. “Xuechu, call me if you need anything.”
Ning Xuechu tightened her grip on the milk tea, watching the car drive away, her expression unreadable.
