Xi Jisheng has admitted defeat twice in her life.
The first time was seven years ago, beneath the dorms of the film academy. When Xi Jisheng said, “Let’s break up,” Lou Ningyu smiled and agreed—turning away before her tears could be seen.
The second time was seven years later. When the lead cast for a “Double Female Lead” (GL) film was announced, the internet was in an uproar: “Why would someone of Lou Ningyu’s stature take a role in such a low-budget film?” Only Lou knew the truth—it was because the other lead was Xi Jisheng.
On the first day of filming, dressed in a cream-colored knit sweater, Lou smiled at the ex-girlfriend she hadn’t seen in seven years: “We meet again.”
She performed with professional detachment. The moment the director yelled “Cut,” she pulled away, as if the woman with tear-filled eyes from a moment ago was nothing but an illusion.
It wasn’t until the wrap party that Xi Jisheng, drunk and leaning on Lou’s shoulder, mumbled while poking her cheek: “Don’t let me go.”
Lou Ningyu kissed her, whispering every word with a fierce intensity: “You’re the one who let go back then. Now, I’m going to take it all back, bit by bit.”
