She Gives Too Much (GL) - Chapter 9
Chen Xi thought she was truly dedicated to her work—a model employee in the sugar baby industry.
While other sugar babies might try to avoid their benefactors and get away with minimal effort, she was different. She craved her sugar daddy’s body every few days.
Li Zhi was definitely getting her money’s worth.
Chen Xi sent the hotel screenshot to the Young Miss, then put down her phone and happily began selecting clothes and bags.
“Where are you going for the National Day holiday? Staying home to write your thesis?” Yan Tuo asked, seeing Chen Xi packing. She took off her headphones and swiveled her chair to face her.
“Not going home. My dad’s traveling for work. I might pick up some part-time shifts.”
Chen Xi held up a Chanel dress, considering it against her body, then shook her head and put it down. “This doesn’t show off my figure enough.”
Nothing shows off your figure better than wearing nothing at all.
Judging by the spring-like glow in Chen Xi’s eyes and the way her lips curved into a smile, Yan Tuo knew exactly what she was planning.
Yan Tuo gently reminded her, “Have you forgotten your persona? Wearing a Chanel dress would be like confessing to your rich woman sister that you’re done playing along.”
Chen Xi gasped, withdrawing her hand from the Dior dress and hugging it to her chest.
She slumped back into her chair, gazing at her overflowing closet of designer clothes, her heart heavy with worry.
In her momentary vanity, she’d been so focused on looking good that she’d completely forgotten her role.
“Just wear what you wore last time,” Yan Tuo suggested. “Especially those faded white sneakers—they’ll tug at the rich woman’s heartstrings.”
Chen Xi shot her a glare and pulled out some clothes from two years ago.
The crisp white casual pants, paired with a simple knitted short-sleeved top, looked fresh, clean, and flattering to her figure.
After changing, Chen Xi tugged at the waistband, relieved she hadn’t gained weight in recent years.
Realizing she couldn’t use her perfume or designer bags, she grabbed her twenty-yuan canvas tote bag.
“I have plans tonight and won’t be back,” Chen Xi said, timing her departure perfectly. She waved goodbye to Yan Tuo and hurried out.
Chen Xi booked the same hotel as last time, even the same room type. She just hoped she could get the same room number.
After taking a taxi to the hotel, Chen Xi retrieved her room key and went upstairs, sending the room number to the Young Miss.
It wasn’t yet the National Day travel season, so the hotel wasn’t too crowded. Chen Xi was incredibly lucky to get the same room as last time.
The city she was in was a popular tourist destination, famous for its bubble tea and variety shows. During summer and winter vacations, it would be packed with visitors.
Chen Xi entered her room, planning to take a shower first. Just as she finished changing her shoes, she saw a message from the Young Miss.
Okay, got it.
Chen Xi replied with a cute “kiss” emoji, unable to resist teasing the Young Miss even through the screen, imagining her cold, aloof expression.
Li Zhi lowered her gaze to the phone, watching the little figure sending a stream of pink hearts. Feeling slightly uncomfortable, she pressed the screen to turn it off.
The elderly woman on the video call, noticing Li Zhi’s brief distraction, frowned and asked, “Is there something wrong at the company?”
“No,” Li Zhi replied calmly, placing her phone face down on the table. “It’s personal.”
“Personal? As the Young Miss of the Li Family and CEO of the Li Corporation, everything should be business. What could possibly be personal?”
The old lady was in one of her moods again today. Ever since she learned Li Zhi wouldn’t be home for the National Day holiday, she’d been sniping at her with cold, cutting remarks.
Li Zhi’s expression didn’t flicker. Or perhaps she was simply used to it.
Ever since the family realized her father was a disappointment, all their hopes had been pinned on young Li Zhi. From that moment on, she’d never experienced the warmth of a normal family’s affection.
Her life existed solely for the sake of the Li Clan. She couldn’t indulge in whims or rebellion; her actions had to align with her status.
This birthright and position meant she was destined to bear these burdens. Li Zhi had long since reconciled herself to this reality and harbored no resentment.
The old lady had always been strict, but she hadn’t been this bitter before.
Perhaps it was menopause. She craved the joy of a bustling family and longed for companionship, yet her pride prevented her from softening her tone. This resulted in harsh, grating words that only deepened the resentment.
Father Li rarely visited their hometown unless he was broke. Only Li Zhi made the effort to return once a month, reporting on company matters and checking on her grandmother.
Even this wasn’t enough to satisfy the old lady.
“My new drama starts filming over the National Day holiday,” Li Zhi explained. “I’ll make time to visit at the end of the month.”
“Come or don’t come—it’s all the same to me,” the old lady snapped, her face darkening, the lines around her mouth deepening. “When you do come, you act like I’m begging you to be here.”
Li Zhi looked at her, her tone flat. “Then I won’t go back.”
She hadn’t eaten dinner or finished her work, yet she was sitting here listening to the old woman’s complaints and criticisms. Sometimes, Li Zhi couldn’t tell if she wanted her to come home or push her away.
The old woman was stunned for a moment, her face paling visibly.
“I knew you didn’t want to come home. You’re just like your father—”
Li Zhi muted the computer, leaned back in her chair, and lowered her gaze to the documents on her desk, her lashes falling to conceal the impatience in her eyes.
The old woman in the video continued to speak, but without sound, making her look like a comical mime.
The assistant stood nearby, watching the eerie silence, afraid to utter a word.
After about five minutes, Li Zhi glanced at her watch and turned the volume back on.
The assistant thought the old woman must have calmed down after her lengthy tirade. But as soon as the sound returned, she heard her still ranting:
“We let you stay out too long. Now you’ve grown wings and think you can fly on your own! If I’d known this would happen, I should have handed the company over to professional management from the start!”
That single sentence completely negated all the remarkable achievements Li Zhi had painstakingly built over the years.
The old woman, in a fit of anger, spoke without thinking. By the time she realized her mistake, it was too late.
The vast office fell into a silence so profound you could hear a pin drop. The assistant’s nerves tightened, and she nearly held her breath.
Li Zhi sat stiffly in her chair, taking a deep breath.
“If that’s how you feel, then find someone else to manage the company tomorrow.”
With a cold expression, Li Zhi slammed her laptop shut, ended the call, pushed back her chair, grabbed her purse, and stood up to leave.
The assistant hurried after her, forcing herself to ask softly, “Shall I drive you home?”
“No need. You can leave early today.”
If not for the old woman’s words, Li Zhi would likely have worked another hour or two before leaving. Now, she had no desire to work at all.
She drove herself to the hotel, her fingers gripping the steering wheel tightly, her face icy.
On the passenger seat, her phone vibrated twice—a message notification.
Li Zhi glanced sideways and vaguely saw the contact name: “Chen Xi.”
Her brow furrowed slightly, and she instantly accelerated.
Perhaps she was just too kind.
The old woman, who knew nothing about business, constantly tried to meddle, while Chen Xi, a pitiful student Li Zhi had taken in on a whim, even dared to think she could climb over her.
Li Zhi parked in the lot, checked in at the front desk, and went straight upstairs.
Chen Xi had just finished showering and drying her hair when a knock came at the door. Barefoot, she hurried to answer, thinking it was the delivery she’d ordered.
But when she cracked the door open, she saw the Young Miss standing outside.
Before Chen Xi could ask why she was so early, Li Zhi had already pushed the door open with one hand, gripped Chen Xi’s arm with the other, and pulled her into the room while slamming the door shut behind them.
Li Zhi tightened her grip on Chen Xi’s arm, spun her around, and pinned her against the heavy door. Her fingers slipped inside Chen Xi’s robe, tugging at the sash.
They kissed.
Li Zhi’s movements were urgent, lacking her usual tenderness, as if she were drunk.
Chen Xi’s head pressed against the door. As Li Zhi lowered her head to kiss her neck, Chen Xi glanced down and gently sniffed.
There was no scent of alcohol.
She smiled. “So the Young Miss likes it rough, huh?”
Li Zhi’s face remained cold as she bit Chen Xi’s collarbone—not painfully, but with a ticklish, warning bite.
Chen Xi shivered slightly, drawing her shoulders inward as she lowered her head to press her cool lips against Li Zhi’s once more.
Li Zhi wanted to remind Chen Xi to remember her place as a kept woman and not be so clingy, to understand who was being supported here.
But when her palm settled on Chen Xi’s smooth, supple waist, the words died in her throat.
Frustrated—whether with herself or Chen Xi, she couldn’t say—Li Zhi unconsciously deepened the kiss.
Chen Xi frowned, gasped, and pushed Li Zhi away, licking her lip where it felt like the skin had broken.
Oh no, am I going to be scarred?
Chen Xi hurried to the mirror.
Li Zhi’s hand, which had been gripping Chen Xi’s waist, suddenly found itself empty, slowly falling to her side.
She had been annoyed, even angry, but seeing Chen Xi’s anxious expression as she checked her reflection, a flicker of helplessness and regret flashed in Li Zhi’s eyes.
I shouldn’t have lost control like that.
Standing before the mirror, Chen Xi tilted her chin to examine the corner of her mouth.
The skin was indeed broken, slightly swollen but not too bad. With proper care, the swelling should subside by morning.
Chen Xi sighed in relief, her peripheral vision finally catching Li Zhi standing by the door through the mirror.
Li Zhi stood motionless, her fingers unconsciously clenching at her sides. Though her face showed no expression, Chen Xi could tell she was regretting her outburst.
Chen Xi had no idea what had upset Li Zhi today, but she shouldn’t take it out on her.
That wasn’t part of their agreement.
Knock, knock, knock.
A knock at the door.
It must be the takeout Chen Xi had ordered earlier.
Li Zhi seemed startled by the sudden noise. Her eyelashes fluttered, and she glanced up at Chen Xi.
Chen Xi pouted and looked down, retying the bathrobe Li Zhi had yanked open earlier. Her face clearly said “I’m angry.” She brushed past Li Zhi and opened the door to take the takeout.
“Thank you,” Chen Xi said brightly, her eyes smiling. As soon as she closed the door, her smile vanished, and she pouted her injured lip again.
Li Zhi watched Chen Xi’s two-faced act, her expression unreadable.
Chen Xi had ordered a large meal. She carried it to the dining table and began unpacking the containers one by one, glancing sideways at Li Zhi.
The Young Miss was still standing in the same spot, having only taken a half-step back when she realized she was blocking the way.
Chen Xi sighed softly, softening her voice as she looked up at Li Zhi. “Dinner’s ready. I ordered some light dishes and rice porridge for you.”
Chen Xi placed Li Zhi’s portion across from her. “You didn’t reply to my message earlier, so I just ordered what I thought you’d like.”
They didn’t know each other well. Chen Xi wasn’t sure what Li Zhi liked to eat, but based on their last meal together, she figured Li Zhi probably wasn’t fond of greasy food.
Li Zhi was slightly taken aback. The message she’d dismissed as Chen Xi pushing her luck on the way here had actually been asking what she wanted to eat?
“I’m sorry,” Li Zhi said, looking up at Chen Xi. Her fingertips twitched slightly as she repeated, “I’m sorry about earlier.”
Chen Xi deliberately pouted, pretending to still be angry, but she couldn’t maintain the act for more than a couple of seconds before bursting into laughter. Her eyes curved into crescents as she handed Li Zhi a pair of chopsticks.
“Fine, I’ll forgive you—especially since you look so stunning today.”
