She Gives Too Much (GL) - Chapter 6
The event lasted until nearly noon. School leaders invited everyone to the cafeteria for lunch, reminiscing about their university days.
When it was Li Zhi’s turn, she politely declined. “I have some matters to attend to. I’ll join you for a meal another time.”
She glanced at her wristwatch and said to the principal, “Regarding the scholarship we discussed earlier, I’ll send someone to discuss the details with you after I return.”
“Wonderful, wonderful!” the principal beamed. “We’re all in the same city. You can come for a meal anytime—it doesn’t have to be today.”
He turned to Instructor Chen Ying. “Shall I have someone escort you out?”
“No need. Please attend to your other duties.”
“Very well, then. Let’s leave it at that for now.” After shaking hands with Li Zhi, the principal turned to invite the others toward the cafeteria.
Once Li Zhi and her group had left, she handed the folder to her assistant.
“Cancel the rest of today’s appointments. You can head back. I have some personal matters to attend to.”
“Understood.” The assistant retrieved the car keys and presented them to Li Zhi with both hands. “Please drive carefully.”
Li Zhi nodded, took the keys, and turned back toward the auditorium.
It was midday, and the building was nearly deserted. Li Zhi stood at the auditorium entrance and gently pushed the door open.
The auditorium’s thick, dark curtains remained drawn, casting the interior into dim, cool shadows.
A quick glance revealed no one inside.
Li Zhi’s brow furrowed, her already cold expression turning almost frosty.
Chen Xi isn’t here?
She took a half-step inside, and the door swung shut behind her. Li Zhi’s heart tightened. She was about to turn when a hand gently encircled her waist.
The familiar scent of Chen Xi enveloped Li Zhi, causing her struggling hands to freeze. She stood rooted to the spot, trapped in Chen Xi’s embrace from behind.
Chen Xi rested her chin on Li Zhi’s slender shoulder, tightening her arms and gently blowing into her ear. “Did the Young Miss come looking for me?”
It was late September, barely into autumn, and the weather remained warm. People were still wearing light clothing, and pressed so close, Li Zhi could clearly feel Chen Xi’s warmth and the soft pressure against her back.
Stiffening, Li Zhi glanced sideways, her voice cool. “Are all the exemplary students at our school like you, Chen Xi?”
The tone was sharp.
Chen Xi wasn’t one to back down. “Well, you set such a good example for us, Senior.”
They were both students at the same school, so neither could really criticize the other.
Chen Xi tilted her head, her long hair cascading over her shoulder, a few strands falling across Li Zhi’s chest. “Didn’t the Young Miss tell me to wait for you here?”
Li Zhi had intended to discuss business, but Chen Xi had misinterpreted it as a second invitation for intimacy.
If it had been anyone else, Chen Xi would have refused outright. But the Young Miss was a different story.
The memory of their reckless night together still lingered vividly in Li Zhi’s mind.
The sensation—a tingling, ticklish thrill—stirred her nerves and tugged at her heartstrings.
Chen Xi asked softly, “Did you ever do anything wild in college, Senior?”
In this situation, with this gesture, Li Zhi couldn’t possibly misunderstand what she was asking.
Seeing her silence, Chen Xi’s eyes curved upward, her smile growing even brighter.
“Everyone’s gone home for lunch and a nap. The whole building is deserted, and I’ve disabled the auditorium cameras.”
“So, Senior, shall we make up for your college regrets?”
Li Zhi wanted to refuse. Her upbringing forbade such behavior in a place like this.
That night, when they had moved from the study to the bedroom, it had been nothing more than an accident fueled by alcohol.
Li Zhi didn’t regret what had happened, but she had no desire to repeat it while sober.
Besides, the school was a sacred place of learning, and the auditorium was a stage for student performances…
The Young Miss desperately tried to distract herself, but her resolve shattered completely when Chen Xi unbuttoned the third button of her shirt.
“This is the school!”
She grabbed Chen Xi’s wrist, stopping the hand that had slipped inside her shirt.
The Young Miss’s self-control teetered on the brink, putting up a desperate last stand against Chen Xi’s advances.
Her words were sharp and cold, but her hand merely gripped Chen Xi’s wrist, holding it without pulling away.
“Isn’t the school for students?” Chen Xi murmured, her lips brushing against Li Zhi’s nape, her nose accidentally grazing her earlobe.
Besides, they were the only two in the auditorium right now.
“Young Miss, your perfume smells so good.” Chen Xi couldn’t quite place the scent, but it was clearly not some mass-market brand.
The fragrance was delicate, cool, and ethereal—just like the Young Miss herself: unique, rare, and impossible to find elsewhere.
Distracted by her words, Chen Xi’s hand slipped inside Li Zhi’s half-cup bra.
Li Zhi’s breath hitched instantly.
The midday breeze gently lifted the corner of the curtain, briefly revealing a sliver of sunlight before the fabric settled back down, shrouding everything in darkness again.
Li Zhi still struggled to reconcile the image of the model student—the virtuous, quiet, and reserved girl Instructor Chen Ying had described—with the girl now sitting on the table, legs spread wide before her.
Outside the auditorium, a row of poplar trees buzzed with cicadas, their incessant chirping drowning out any other sounds from within the hall.
Half an hour later, Chen Xi pulled out a wet wipe and took Li Zhi’s hand, carefully wiping each of her fingers, one by one, her gaze lowered in focused concentration.
Li Zhi looked down at her. The girl was quiet and earnest, her long, thick lashes casting small shadows across her eyelids as she worked with the intensity of someone performing a solemn ritual.
As if sensing Li Zhi’s gaze, Chen Xi suddenly looked up, their eyes meeting squarely.
Li Zhi’s expression turned slightly awkward. She frowned, trying to mask her discomfort, a hint of impatience flickering in her eyes.
Chen Xi, however, smiled and raised Li Zhi’s hand to her lips, pressing a loud kiss against her index finger.
The cicadas had fallen silent sometime earlier, and in the quiet auditorium, the sound echoed with startling clarity.
Li Zhi, her face impassive but her ears flushed crimson, yanked her hand away.
The air in the auditorium seemed even thinner and hotter than before.
Chen Xi remained unfazed. She bent down, used a clean tissue to pick up the wet wipes they had discarded on the floor, and tossed them into the trash can behind the door.
“You haven’t eaten yet, have you?” Chen Xi wiped her own hands and turned to Li Zhi, patting her canvas bag. “Come on, let’s go out and get you something to eat.”
The cafeteria was already out of food at this hour. Even if there were some left, Chen Xi didn’t want to take Li Zhi there—it would be too awkward if they ran into school administrators.
Fortunately, the area around the school never lacked for food.
There were various restaurants and eateries for lunch, and night markets offering all sorts of snacks in the evening.
Chen Xi had attended college here, so she knew far more about the local food scene than Li Zhi did.
With the weather being so hot, Chen Xi shielded her face with her hand as she led Li Zhi to a liangfen stall.
Since it was so close, Li Zhi didn’t even bother driving.
They chose seats near the air conditioner, and Chen Xi ordered two bowls of liangfen.
Usually, the stall would be packed with students right after school, making it nearly impossible to find a seat. But now, just before one o’clock, the place was deserted.
While waiting for their food, Chen Xi pulled out her phone to reply to messages.
[Brave Cat Isn’t Afraid of Hardship]
[Xiao Xiao: Qian Qian, why aren’t you back yet? Should I bring you some food?]
[Xiao Xiao: @Qian Qian]
[Yan Tuo: I haven’t seen her since the event ended. Don’t bother bringing her food—bring me some instead.]
[Yan Tuo: Whatever you’re eating, bring me the same.]
[Xiao Xiao: Okk.]
[Qian Qian: I won’t be back for dinner tonight. You guys eat without me~]
Even the punctuation marks seemed to dance with joy.
After replying to her messages, Chen Xi suddenly remembered something and turned to Li Zhi, who was sitting across from her. “Young Miss, would you like to exchange contact information?”
She tapped open her social media app and held out the QR code for Li Zhi to scan.
Li Zhi had just finished replying to her assistant’s message when she looked up and saw the phone shoved right in her face.
She stared at Chen Xi, who blinked at her with wide, innocent eyes.
Just then, a notification popped up at the top of the screen:
Yan Tuo: @Qian Qian, hogging all the food.
“No, thanks.” Li Zhi, who had already opened her social media app, immediately turned off her phone.
Chen Xi looked at her, puzzled. How had the warm, friendly person from moments ago suddenly turned cold and distant again?
The Young Miss’s mood is like the weather in June—changeable as can be.
“Here are your two servings of liangfen,” the owner’s wife announced, carrying over two large, clean white bowls. The bowls were filled with translucent, glistening liangfen noodles, topped with a thick layer of sesame paste, a sprinkle of pepper powder, and a garnish of peanuts. This was liangfen.
This liangfen wasn’t just clean; it was always freshly made and sold on the spot. The noodles were chewy and resilient, offering a cool, slippery texture and a rich, savory flavor that filled the mouth.
Chen Xi had been hungry since morning, and her mouth began watering the moment she caught a whiff of the sesame sauce.
She grabbed two pairs of chopsticks, handing one pair to Li Zhi.
Li Zhi took the chopsticks and rinsed them with half a cup of water from a disposable cup before using them.
Unlike Chen Xi, Li Zhi ate slowly, carefully picking up one glass noodle at a time and savoring each bite.
Watching her eat so earnestly, Chen Xi couldn’t resist teasing her.
Chen Xi had to stand all morning. To match her fresh, forest-inspired dress, she wore a pair of white sneakers.
The sneakers, which she’d had for two years, were spotless from frequent cleaning, and her white, frilly socks peeked out at the ankles.
As Chen Xi slurped her noodles, her eyes remained fixed on Li Zhi. Her face was demure, but beneath the table, she gently nudged Li Zhi’s ankle with the tip of her shoe.
Li Zhi sat primly with her legs pressed together. Chen Xi mischievously tried to wedge her toes between Li Zhi’s calves, teasing the hem of her skirt.
Like a restless cat, she couldn’t resist extending her paw to play with the person in front of her.
The Young Miss had her own boundaries and principles. In the auditorium earlier, the most she was willing to do was help Chen Xi.
Chen Xi sat on the red velvet table, her hands gripping the edge, her hazy, watery eyes staring unabashedly at the Young Miss.
The Young Miss’s usually cold and restrained expression seemed to flush slightly, and she awkwardly averted her gaze.
Finally, unable to withstand Chen Xi’s burning, direct stare and the way she bit her lower lip, the Young Miss actually used her free hand to cover Chen Xi’s eyes.
Li Zhi’s palm was slightly warm as it gently covered Chen Xi’s eyes. The scent of her cool perfume, the same one she wore, lingered on her hand, creating an indescribably alluring effect.
What Chen Xi didn’t know was that Li Zhi only dared to look at her openly and frankly once her eyes were covered.
The girl’s cheeks were flushed crimson, her pearly teeth lightly biting her moist lower lip. Half of her palm-sized face was hidden beneath Li Zhi’s hand, making her look exquisitely beautiful.
The long lashes beneath Li Zhi’s palm fluttered softly, tickling her palm and sending a shiver of pleasure through her. Li Zhi’s lashes lowered, her heartstrings taut, and she nearly abandoned her own principles.
“Eat.”
Li Zhi suddenly gripped Chen Xi’s ankle and looked up at her, her eyes clear and restrained, devoid of any lust.
Chen Xi met her gaze and felt her face inexplicably heat up. She quietly lowered her head and continued eating the noodles in her bowl, behaving herself for once.
Apart from that drunken night, the Young Miss had always been too cold and restrained.
She refused to go further with Chen Xi in the auditorium and wouldn’t even exchange contact information.
Chen Xi slowly chewed her noodles, reflecting on her earlier behavior and realizing she might have been acting too recklessly.
Oh, well.
Especially when Chen Xi met Li Zhi’s cold gaze, it felt like a bucket of ice water had been thrown over her feverish mind, forcing her to calm down.
The experience left her feeling both clear-headed and slightly embarrassed.
Chen Xi curled her feet back under the table, her toes digging lightly into the soles of her shoes as she sighed softly.
The Young Miss is perfect in every way, except her personality just doesn’t suit me. We could be friends with benefits, but nothing more.
Good thing I probably won’t see her again.
