She doesn’t want to pretend to be an Omega either! - Chapter 11
Yin Qingyue hadn’t used “wanting to talk to Wen Mo” as an excuse. The moment they got in the car, she took the initiative to start a conversation.
She didn’t avoid Zhu Shen either—after all, he already knew Wen Mo’s secret.
At first, Yin Qingyue only asked some perfunctory questions about how Wen Mo had been doing lately. After getting a simple “not bad” in reply, she gradually steered the topic toward what she really wanted to discuss.
She said that she had already explained their relationship to her friends and even asked them to clarify things for anyone who might still be curious.
Wen Mo expressed her gratitude with complete sincerity, secretly praying that those “friends” also included the male lead and the male supporting cast.
Yin Qingyue waved it off with a small laugh, saying this wasn’t just Wen Mo’s problem—it was also about clearing her own name—so there was no need to thank her.
So Wen Mo sincerely apologized instead, for dragging the innocent Yin Qingyue into her scandal.
Her mindset was simple: no matter what, her attitude had to be right.
She just hoped that Yin Qingyue—and even Zhu Shen up front—could feel her genuine determination to reform and leave the past behind.
And that attitude did pay off, at least with Yin Qingyue.
Yin Qingyue let out a helpless laugh and said that Wen Mo really had changed a lot—so polite now that no wonder everyone was so surprised. But what had caused such a sudden transformation?
A sudden change always needs a trigger.
As the person involved, Yin Qingyue knew it wasn’t true that Wen Mo had changed because of being rejected by her, as the rumors claimed.
So what was the real reason?
“Just… I suddenly figured things out,” Wen Mo replied. “I felt I couldn’t keep muddling along anymore. Only by truly becoming stronger can I really be myself.”
She even dropped a subtle hint about her true identity as an Omega.
After speaking, she instinctively glanced at Zhu Shen in the front seat.
It was pure guilt that made her do it.
Her explanation was flimsy.
Plausible, but hardly convincing—not enough to fool Yin Qingyue, let alone Zhu Shen.
She had already told one big lie and didn’t want to pile on another.
…Besides, she couldn’t think of anything better!
Fortunately, Yin Qingyue seemed to have her own interpretation of things. Whether she believed it or simply respected Wen Mo’s privacy, she didn’t press further.
Instead, she looked at Wen Mo, then at Zhu Shen.
Wen Mo couldn’t quite figure out why. Why bring Zhu Shen into it at this moment?
Before she could dwell on it, Yin Qingyue smiled gently and steered the conversation elsewhere.
She asked if Wen Mo had heard any other rumors about herself lately.
Wen Mo said no—people definitely wouldn’t gossip right in front of her.
Yin Qingyue hesitated for a beat. “There’s something I want to ask. It might be a bit presumptuous…”
“We’re friends, aren’t we? What can’t you ask? Just go ahead!” Wen Mo eagerly pasted a “friend” label on herself.
Luckily, the kind-hearted angel Yin Qingyue didn’t mind. She smiled and nodded. “Yes, friends.”
Wen Mo grinned. “So ask away!”
After a moment’s thought, Yin Qingyue asked, “Do you… have a lot of ex-girlfriends?”
At the mention of ex-girlfriends, Wen Mo immediately understood.
Yin Qingyue must have seen that post!
She hadn’t expected results so soon—the post had only been up for two days.
Delighted inside, she outwardly feigned embarrassment, stammering: “Well, um… I’m not sure if they really count as ex-girlfriends…”
“Oh?” Yin Qingyue’s curiosity was piqued by her evasive reply.
“Actually, I only wanted to be friends with them at first,” Wen Mo explained. “I’ve always envied those who could live freely as Omegas, so… I was unconsciously drawn to them, wanted to get close. But because I had to keep acting as an Alpha—you know how people think it’s impossible for an A and O to just be friends—before I realized it, they’d somehow become my girlfriends.”
She deliberately spoke in a voice just loud enough for Zhu Shen to hear from the front seat, but not so loud that it seemed intentional.
Might as well take the chance to reinforce her persona.
Yin Qingyue nodded, finding some resonance. “So… kind of like what happened between you and me?”
“Mm…” Wen Mo lowered her head, sounding a little embarrassed. “It’s my fault for being greedy. On one hand, I didn’t dare tell them my true gender. On the other, I was afraid that if I clarified things too much, I’d lose them as friends.
So… things just got muddled that way.”
Yin Qingyue frowned slightly, not entirely approving.
But seeing Wen Mo bowing her head like a child admitting a mistake, she also felt it wasn’t easy for her. She had no right to pass judgment on someone else’s life.
So instead of commenting, she simply said: “From now on, we’re friends. No explanations needed.”
Wen Mo immediately looked up with a bright, surprised smile.
Zhu Shen, who had overheard the whole conversation, had also pieced together the gist of it.
Not knowing the full picture, he held his tongue.
But he was clearly dissatisfied with how easily Yin Qingyue believed her and even insisted on befriending her. He let out a cold snort.
The moment Wen Mo heard it, she knew all her carefully placed remarks meant for Zhu Shen had gone to waste.
Winning him over was going to be a lot harder than she thought.
“Brother Zhu Shen!” Yin Qingyue scolded, displeased. “The Omegas are talking—Alphas, don’t butt in!”
“Did I butt in?” Zhu Shen drawled lazily.
“You snorted!” Yin Qingyue replied.
“That counts as butting in?” Zhu Shen said.
“Of course it does. We all heard it! Can’t you stop being so hostile to Wen Mo?” Yin Qingyue muttered.
Seeing the female lead about to argue with the male supporting character on her behalf, Wen Mo was both happy and worried.
A little quarrel could be charming, but a big fight was unhealthy—especially for her.
If Zhu Shen was truly provoked, it would be her who suffered the consequences.
So Wen Mo hurried to mediate. “It’s really not a big deal. Zhu… he’s just worried about you. After all, last time we did have some unpleasant misunderstandings. It makes sense that he doesn’t like me. Please don’t argue because of me!”
God, I’m such a green tea schemer.
As she spoke, Wen Mo mocked herself inwardly, almost able to smell the strong “tea fragrance” radiating off her.
Maybe she should consider acting—she clearly had some talent for it.
“Don’t worry, Wen Mo,” Yin Qingyue reassured her, patting the back of her hand. “We’re not fighting. Brother Zhu Shen won’t get mad at me.”
And indeed, Zhu Shen never got angry at Yin Qingyue.
One look from her was enough to shut him up.
Wen Mo was deeply impressed.
As expected, the heroine was always the kryptonite of the male supporting character.
When they reached the shopping mall, Wen Mo got out of the car. She gave Zhu Shen a perfect ninety-degree bow from the driver’s side and was just about to loudly thank him when the car drove off.
Wen Mo: “…”
Fine. She had ruined his “alone time” with Yin Qingyue. She was in the wrong. She couldn’t hold it against him.
Straightening with good temper, she walked into the mall.
The truth was, Wen Mo had only ever bought birthday presents for her dad. She had no idea what young men liked.
In all the years of friendship, the original “Wen Mo” had never once given Wei Mingshu a birthday present. And yet, every year, Wei Mingshu still sent her gifts on her birthday—gifts that she shamelessly accepted.
So of course, Wei Mingshu had started to find it suspicious. What kind of one-sided friendship was this, exactly?
