She doesn’t want to pretend to be an Omega either! - Chapter 10
Zhu Shen’s expression didn’t ease at all because of Yin Qingyue’s words. His face remained unreadable as he fixed his gaze on Wen Mo and asked coldly:
“Really? You’re afraid of me?”
Before Wen Mo could answer, Yin Qingyue spoke up:
“Who wouldn’t be afraid of you when you act like this?”
Wen Mo was secretly delighted.
With Yin Qingyue standing up for her, all she had to do was nod and agree.
But Zhu Shen ignored Yin Qingyue altogether and pressed on, eyes still locked on Wen Mo:
“Are you sure it’s not because you’re feeling guilty?”
Wen Mo’s heart skipped a beat, nearly giving her away.
The male supporting lead didn’t believe her—worse, he seemed deeply suspicious. He even brushed aside the female lead’s words.
Yin Qingyue blinked, then quickly explained on Wen Mo’s behalf:
“Brother Zhu Shen, I really don’t think Wen Mo would make up something that ridiculous just to lie.”
Wen Mo’s heartbeat steadied again.
The heroine really was a little angel.
With her support, Wen Mo instantly regained some confidence.
After all, even if this overly cautious male lead didn’t believe her, as long as Yin Qingyue stood between them, Zhu Shen would have to let her off for her sake.
Still, Zhu Shen was far too hard to fool. Relying solely on Yin Qingyue wouldn’t be enough.
Wen Mo thought for a moment, then forced herself to act as if she had gathered courage. She leaned her head forward slightly and murmured:
“Qingyue is right. I had no reason to make up something so absurd to trick you. And honestly, in that situation, I didn’t even need to explain anything to you—after all, you had already hit me…”
She pursed her lips, adding in a small, aggrieved voice:
“Besides, even if you really misunderstood me, this is a lawful society. At most, you’d rough me up a little—you couldn’t really do anything worse. So why would I need to lie to you? I would just wait until you calmed down, then walk away and cut ties for good.”
—If Wen Mo hadn’t already known the future development of events, she really would have thought this way and acted accordingly.
Which was why she felt her explanation was perfectly reasonable.
“Exactly.” Yin Qingyue, who already leaned toward believing Wen Mo, became even more convinced after hearing her speak with such earnestness.
Zhu Shen gave no response. He simply continued to stare at Wen Mo expressionlessly.
Wen Mo widened her bright eyes, trying her best to appear sincere.
Just when she thought his silence meant she had finally persuaded him, Zhu Shen spoke:
“You seem to be speaking quite clearly right now. Your logic is sharp, your eyes wide open. Doesn’t look like someone who’s afraid of me.”
He had come around with a sharp counterattack.
Wen Mo: “…”
Are you serious?! Who could be as nitpicky as you? Even while I’m explaining so earnestly, you’re dissecting my body language?
And excuse me—my eyes are naturally big!
Wen Mo was speechless.
Worse still, she couldn’t even complain.
Instead, she had to whisper a pitiful defense:
“I-I’m just afraid you’ll think I’m guilty again…”
Her tearful, helpless look didn’t move Zhu Shen in the slightest—but it did tug at Yin Qingyue’s soft heart.
Wen Mo was taller than her by a full head, yet Yin Qingyue couldn’t help but feel protective of her.
Perhaps it was the contrast—such height paired with such a soft, delicate face—or maybe it was Wen Mo’s forced act of being an Alpha, which only made her seem all the more pitiful. Either way, Yin Qingyue instinctively saw her as someone to be cherished.
Yin Qingyue patted Wen Mo’s shoulder in comfort, then turned to Zhu Shen:
“Alright, enough. Weren’t you going to take me out for something delicious? Let’s go.”
Zhu Shen: “…”
For a moment, he felt a little frustrated.
Was her courage really that small? He hadn’t even said much, and she already looked like she might cry.
Then again, last time she had cried miserably. Maybe she really could cry at the drop of a hat.
But… was it really possible for an Alpha to cry on command? And with such exaggerated expressions?
Zhu Shen didn’t buy it.
He hated crying and whining the most—regardless of ABO.
Still, since Yin Qingyue was clearly on Wen Mo’s side, he didn’t want to argue with her further.
Even so, Zhu Shen had already decided in his heart: he was going to investigate this person.
He kept his face neutral, stopped looking at Wen Mo, and gave Yin Qingyue a faint nod.
“Let’s go.”
Yin Qingyue tugged Wen Mo’s sleeve.
“She’s heading the same way as us. Let’s give her a ride.”
Wen Mo quickly interjected, her voice small:
“Maybe I shouldn’t… I don’t want to impose. Brother Zhu Shen… um, sir… you don’t really seem to like me much.”
She cursed herself inwardly. Why did she always default to calling people the way others did?
Halfway through saying Brother Zhu Shen, she caught his sharp glance and hastily corrected herself.
The result was a strange hybrid title: Brother Zhu Shen-sir.
Zhu Shen raised an eyebrow.
“If you don’t know how to address someone, then don’t.” His tone was filled with disdain.
Wen Mo bowed her head obediently. “Sorry.”
Zhu Shen: “…”
Why was she so practiced at apologizing?
Wen Mo followed up, sounding almost too polite:
“Then what would you like me to call you?”
See? I’m being courteous—how could you still be harsh with me? she thought silently.
But reality proved Zhu Shen had no trouble at all.
“Don’t call me anything. Understand?” he said flatly. “Since you know I don’t like you, just don’t show up in front of me next time.”
“…Then I guess I’ll be going,” Wen Mo murmured.
She lowered her head, lips pressed together in quiet sorrow, and started to turn away.
Yin Qingyue panicked.
She had no idea why Zhu Shen, usually so reasonable, harbored such hostility toward Wen Mo. How could he stay so cold in front of such an innocent, harmless face?
After all, she was the one who insisted on bringing Wen Mo along. If Wen Mo left humiliated, wouldn’t that be her fault?
“Brother!” Yin Qingyue grabbed Wen Mo’s arm, then snapped at Zhu Shen:
“I invited her. If you treat her like this, then I won’t go either!”
Brother?
With her back still turned, Wen Mo blinked in confusion. That sounded… different.
But she didn’t think too much of it—probably just that Yin Qingyue was upset and didn’t want to call him Brother Zhu Shen in such a sweet tone.
“Fine, fine,” Zhu Shen finally compromised, sounding faintly exasperated.
“Why are you so worked up? Didn’t I just say she shouldn’t show up next time? I never said this time.”
Wen Mo: “…”
How did you twist your own words like that? You really have mastered the art of language.
Even Yin Qingyue seemed too speechless to respond immediately.
After a pause, Wen Mo felt her sleeve tugged gently. Yin Qingyue whispered:
“Wen Mo… are you coming?”
If possible, Wen Mo still preferred to take a cab herself.
But at this point, insisting on leaving would feel like she was rejecting Yin Qingyue’s kindness.
So Wen Mo turned around, nodded under Zhu Shen’s cold gaze, and followed Yin Qingyue into the car.
To her surprise, Zhu Shen himself was driving.
No chauffeur—that seemed a little out of character for a domineering CEO.
But then again, he had come specifically to pick up Yin Qingyue. Naturally, he would want to show his sincerity. With a driver present, there would only be an unwanted third wheel.
I offer my heart to the bright moon, yet she already belongs to someone else…
Wen Mo sighed inwardly. Poor Zhu Shen. To Yin Qingyue, he would always be just an older brother, never a romantic partner.
Yin Qingyue, perhaps to accompany her, chose to sit in the backseat together instead of the front.
The empty passenger seat only made Zhu Shen look even more like a chauffeur.
Wen Mo sneaked a glance at him in the driver’s seat. Her eyes carried a trace of genuine guilt and sympathy.
Zhu Shen’s instincts were sharp.
He immediately noticed through the rearview mirror. Wen Mo’s strange gaze… it almost looked like pity.
Pity? For him?
…Impossible. He must have misunderstood.
If anything, she should be glaring at him with hostility.
After all, he had been nothing but harsh earlier. He had even beaten her up last time.
Zhu Shen searched her eyes for even a flicker of animosity.
But to his frustration, he found none.
Maybe he had misread it.
Still, whether it was pity or something else, one thing was clear—there was no malice.
And yet… she was suspicious. He had no idea what her true intentions were.
Which was why he had to find out.
Was she really an Alpha—or an Omega?
He was going to uncover the truth.
