She Became The Black Lotus’s Pure, Untouchable Love - Chapter 11
Chapter 11
Lin Junruo tilted her head, stealing a glance into the car.
At once, she saw Ning Xiangxiang sitting awkwardly in the passenger seat due to her cast, her head bowed, sobbing so hard she could barely catch her breath.
The tip of her small, delicate nose was bright red. Her round, deer-like left eye looked… as if she had been punched, appearing bruised and swollen.
Lin Junruo stood frozen.
She had heard that Ning Xiangxiang injured her leg falling from a wire—how did her eye end up like that? Could she really have been… beaten?
In disbelief, she looked toward Huo Xingyu, who was standing nearby with her arms crossed.
That exquisite, cold face was expressionless. Her slightly upturned eyes carried a natural sharpness and majesty, making her appear as if she were a cold bystander watching with aloof dissatisfaction.
Facing such a beautiful, fragile girl crying her heart out in her car, how could she just stand there with such indifference? Her complexion even looked a bit dark.
A sudden suspicion flashed through Lin Junruo’s mind.
Could it be… that Miss Huo was the one who did this??
She didn’t know the nature of the relationship or the grievances between Huo Xingyu and Ning Xiangxiang. On set, Ning Xiangxiang was a gentle and lovely sister who shared everything. Such a kind person would surely never do anything to provoke Huo Xingyu. However, Huo Xingyu’s bad temper was no secret in the industry, and with her status and “keep away” aura, no one dared to cross her.
If there was a conflict, it must be Huo Xingyu’s fault!
Looking at Ning Xiangxiang’s heavy cast and “bruised” eyes, Lin Junruo felt a surge of indignation.
“Sister Xiangxiang, why are you crying?” she asked, shooting a secret glare at Huo Xingyu’s back. “Does it hurt a lot?”
Ning Xiangxiang tried to move her injured leg. The piercing pain from earlier had subsided into a dull ache. Seeing the genuine worry in Lin Junruo’s eyes, she felt a wave of emotion and said, “It hurts a little, but it’s okay.”
“But… but Sister Xiangxiang, you’re still crying…”
Ning Xiangxiang wiped the tears from her face. The shock of the impact earlier had triggered her nerves, causing the tears to flow uncontrollably. Had it not been for the waterproof makeup Sister Luo applied, her face would be a mess of eyeshadow by now.
But how could she explain? Could she say she crashed into her own injured leg while frantically trying to hide the fact that she was getting out of Huo Xingyu’s car?
Looking at Lin Junruo’s concerned face, she sighed and said, “I’m just… so moved by your concern.”
Lin Junruo fell silent. Usually, she was terrified just standing near Huo Xingyu, her mind filled with thoughts of running away. But seeing Ning Xiangxiang sobbing yet trying to act strong, her fear vanished.
Noticing Huo Xingyu’s face darkening further, Lin Junruo plucked up the courage to suggest, “Sister Xiangxiang, how about I take you back to the set? It’s crowded in there; it might be inconvenient for Miss Huo to go in.”
That was it. She was going to rescue Sister Xiangxiang from this “Female Devil.”
Look at Huo Xingyu’s attitude! Sister Xiangxiang is crying like this, and she’s just standing there frowning without a word? What kind of arch-villain bullies Sister Xiangxiang like this!
The “arch-villain” in question knit her brows, her sharp phoenix eyes sweeping over them. “Fine. Sorry for the trouble.”
“It’s no trouble at all. Sister Xiangxiang is such a good person; it’s my duty to look after her,” Lin Junruo emphasized, slowing her tone intentionally.
She handed her popsicle to her assistant and moved to help Ning Xiangxiang. However, Huo Xingyu suddenly leaned down and, without a word, scooped Ning Xiangxiang up and gently placed her in the wheelchair.
Lin Junruo opened her mouth to protest, but her assistant frantically tugged at her sleeve, shaking her head in terror, so she had to give up, fuming.
Huo Xingyu smoothed out Ning Xiangxiang’s crumpled skirt, then took a handkerchief from her handbag and pressed it into her hand. Hesitating for a moment, she leaned close to Ning Xiangxiang’s ear and whispered:
“Stop crying. Wipe your tears. I… when I’m done with work, I’ll take you out to play.”
Ning Xiangxiang was stunned. She stared in disbelief at the cold woman before her—the mysterious blush on Huo Xingyu’s face, those words… and the way Huo Xingyu hurried away immediately after, as if escaping.
“Stop crying… take you out to play.”
What did that mean? Was Huo Xingyu… coaxing her? Or was this another “new project inspection plan”? And take her where to do what?
Ning Xiangxiang looked down at her broken leg and shuddered. She remembered Huo Xingyu’s “smile of death” at the hospital entrance when she said: “I’m here for the scenery.”
As the Rapid drove away and merged into the traffic outside the Film City gates, Lin Junruo patted Ning Xiangxiang’s shoulder. “Sister Xiangxiang, don’t be scared anymore, she’s gone… What is your relationship with her? How could she treat you like that?”
“We don’t really have a relationship. I just met her today. I called a ride when I was discharged, and I ended up in her car.”
Lin Junruo looked at the “bruised” eyes and sighed. Sister Xiangxiang was too kind—she was clearly crying so hard her breath hitched, yet she was making up such a clumsy excuse to avoid making others worry. How could anyone just “happen” to catch a ride with the elusive Fourth Miss Huo?
“What a ridiculous fairy tale,” Lin Junruo thought, her own eyes tearing up as she pushed the wheelchair. “You need to cover the injury on your face before we go in, or people will start gossiping.”
“An injury on my face?” Ning Xiangxiang was surprised.
“Yeah! Doesn’t it hurt when it’s bruised like that? It’s—wait?”
Lin Junruo leaned in to look closer. To her surprise, the “bruise” was fading, revealing only the slight puffiness of having cried. The brown handkerchief in Ning Xiangxiang’s hand was now stained with a large smudge of eyeshadow, covering the brand’s logo in red.
“Huh?” she muttered, staring at the makeup. “Sister Xiangxiang, you weren’t punched?”
“Who would punch me?”
“I just…” Lin Junruo hesitated. She realized she had underestimated Huo Xingyu. Given the rumors, if someone truly angered her, a simple punch to the eye would be far too low-brow. A woman of her stature wouldn’t deign to get her hands dirty like that.
“You didn’t think Huo Xingyu hit me, did you?” Ning Xiangxiang raised an eyebrow. Seeing Lin Junruo’s transparent expression, she instinctively tried to soothe her: “You’re overthinking. Actually, Miss Huo is quite…”
Quite what?
Ning Xiangxiang stalled. She felt she should say something nice, but she couldn’t find a single compliment.
Kind? The way Huo Xingyu smiled at her broken leg in the hospital was anything but kind.
Good-hearted? She only drove her here to inspect a “disastrous drama” and estimate the financial loss. That was pure malice.
“Quite what?” Lin Junruo asked, licking her popsicle.
“Quite healthy.”
…
On the other side of town, Huo Xingyu rubbed her temples. It was 6:00 PM by the time she reached the city, and the rush hour traffic was brutal. She had barely moved 700 meters in an hour.
The sky had turned a dusky blue, lit by neon signs.
This was the second time she had seen Ning Xiangxiang cry—the first being her own funeral. Seeing her sob so hard left Huo Xingyu feeling utterly helpless and trapped. She felt she should say something to comfort her, but her brain felt like an old, rusted machine that had seized up.
She felt like a ghost at her own funeral again—disconnected and lacking the “comforting” function in her brain. After struggling to organize her thoughts for an age, she had only managed to blurt out: “I’ll take you out to play,” before fleeing.
Why was Ning Xiangxiang such a crybaby? But since Ning Xiangxiang loved her so much, she probably desperately wanted comfort, right?
Thinking this, Huo Xingyu took out her phone and typed into the search bar: How to comfort a girl when she cries?
The results popped up: “The girl I like is crying, how do I coax her?”
Huo Xingyu narrowed her eyes. In her mind, the search should be: How to comfort a girl who loves me very much when she cries.
She scrolled down and clicked on the top-rated answer.
Cambridge PhD: Ask her, ‘Didn’t you eat? Why are you crying so quietly?’
Huo Xingyu imagined Ning Xiangxiang sitting there, crying even louder. She fell silent and kept scrolling until she found a more practical one:
Tell a joke. Seriously! My girlfriend stops crying every time I tell a joke!
With a serious expression, Huo Xingyu opened a new tab and began searching for: Ultimate Collection of Jokes.
