Luo Zhi has transmigrated into a book as the neighbour of the great villain, Bai Zhaoyao. In the original novel, Bai Zhaoyao is a ruthless, petty, and volatile woman; anyone who crosses her path ends up dead or disabled. To survive, Luo Zhi lives as cautiously as possible, keeping her door shut and focusing on her cultivation, desperate to stay out of the villain’s sight and live a quiet, “salted fish” life.
However, disaster strikes when Luo Zhi accidentally falls into the “Nine-Turns-Thousand-Returns Heart-Testing Array.” To escape, she is forced to team up with a brain-damaged Bai Zhaoyao to act out a series of melodramatic and ridiculous “dog-blood” short drama scenarios dictated by the array:
In “The Billionaire CEO and the Beautiful Runaway Mummy”: The domineering CEO, Bai Zhaoyao, furiously rips up a cheque and snarls at Luo Zhi: “Luo Zhi! Do you really think a mere five million is enough to compensate for you disappearing all these years with my three-year-old genius treasure of a daughter?”
In “The Uncrowned King of the Galaxy: Love at First Sight”: General Bai Zhaoyao grips Luo Zhi’s chin and stares coldly into her eyes: “Woman, you have successfully caught my attention! No matter how hard you run, you shall never escape me!”In “The Gentle Tyrant’s Desperate Plea”: The Emperor, Bai Zhaoyao, caresses Luo Zhi’s face in agony: “Princess, why would you rather hang from the city walls for seven days and nights than agree to marry me?”In “The Overbearing Immortal’s Eternal Pursuit”: Immortal Lord Bai Zhaoyao cradles Luo Zhi’s pet calico cat in despair: “Zhi’er, it matters not. Even if you have reincarnated as a cat this time, I will wait another thousand years for you to cultivate into a cat demon”
Luo Zhi:
Recalling the original Bai Zhaoyao’s vengeful and vicious nature, and terrified of being hunted down after playing out these cringeworthy scenes, Luo Zhi vows to vanish the moment they escape the array.
But to her horror, as soon as the array breaks, she finds Bai Zhaoyao blocking her front door!
“Zhizhi, you know the truth now, don’t you?”
Bai Zhaoyao lives up to her name, flashing a dazzling, predatory smile. “That I’ve been secretly in love with you all these years, that was my deepest secret.”
Only years later does Luo Zhi realise that she was never a mere side character. In the original plot, she was the “White Moonlight” of Bai Zhaoyao’s heart, the one for whom the villain would search heaven and earth, slaughtering across three realms in a descent into madness when she couldn’t be found.
