Seduced By My Omega Stepsister - Chapter 4
She never noticed the dimming light within the young girl’s gentle eyes.
Fu Zhou had begun to study.
During a single class period, Zhou Heyu turned her head back at least twenty times, until the balding teacher, nicknamed “Mediterranean” flicked a piece of chalk that landed with a steady thwack against her forehead. The classroom erupted like a hot frying pan, boiling over with laughter.
“Stop laughing, look at the problem!” Mediterranean paced a few circles with his hands behind his back, eventually stopping in front of Zhou Heyu. He tapped her head with his thumb.
“Does Fu Zhou have flowers growing on her face? You’re constantly looking back. Do you want me to swap your seats?”
“Coincidentally, Fu Zhou doesn’t have a seatmate. Since you two get along so well…”
Zhou Heyu lowered her head, her grip on her pen so tight her wrists showed a faint, nervous flush.
Mediterranean let out a soft snort through his nose. “Stop looking back!”
Zhou Heyu’s grades were actually quite good; she had earned her spot in the elite “Qiangji” (Strong Foundation) class through hard work. However, she had never seen Fu Zhou study before. The young heiress didn’t lack money and was an Alpha, whether she studied or not wasn’t a life or death matter.
In Fu Zhou’s own words, she planned to join the military or become a police officer later. Given her physical fitness and the special societal treatment Alphas received, she’d always find a good job.
On her twenty first attempt to look back, Zhou Heyu finally locked eyes with Fu Zhou. Those pitch-black eyes held a hint of suspicion. Fu Zhou swiftly and accurately flicked a crumpled ball of paper onto Zhou Heyu’s desk while Mediterranean was busy explaining a problem on the board.
Zhou Heyu carefully unfolded the paper, glancing up first to ensure the coast was clear before reading the content.
Three hideous, sprawling characters: “Like me?”
Zhou Heyu almost burst out laughing.
A few seconds later, a familiar paper ball landed on Fu Zhou’s desk. She opened it quietly. Beneath those three ugly characters, a line of elegant handwriting had been added:
“Like your mother.”
Fu Zhou curled her lip and stuffed the paper into her hoodie pocket. What a coincidence, her mother had been dead for many years.
During the back to back math classes that morning, as the period drew to a close, Mediterranean handed out a set of exam papers. He picked his ear before the groans of the class could even begin, then slapped his wooden ruler against the desk, kicking up a cloud of chalk dust.
The students in the front row habitually held up their books to shield themselves.
“Alright, alright, it’s just a quiz. If you need the restroom, be back within five minutes. Including the break, you have fifty-five minutes total. I’m collecting them when class ends.”
Amidst muffled curses, students filed out. Fu Zhou sat in her chair until she felt a kick against the chair leg, then followed suit.
Zhou Heyu was waiting for her outside.
“What’s the deal? Suddenly studying today? Did something trigger you?”
“Nothing. Just want to get into university.”
Fu Zhou tilted her head and naturally swiped a tissue from Zhou Heyu’s pocket.
“WTF, that’s my only one! Give me half!”
Fu Zhou tore it in half and handed a piece back.
There were only two classes on this floor: Qiangji A and Qiangji B. Fu Zhou hadn’t asked, but knowing Fu Li’s personality, there was no reason he would place Chu Xiyu in a regular class especially since she was an Omega.
As she passed the Qiangji B classroom, she craned her neck to peek inside. Every seat she scanned was empty of Chu Xiyu.
A flicker of disappointment crossed those dark eyes. But as she turned back, a pair of light-colored eyes caught hers from a short distance away.
It was Chu Xiyu.
The girl stood steadily a few paces away, clutching several unopened books. Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, pooling around her as if she were a favorite of the light itself.
Her eyelashes were thick and long, her slightly upturned “peach blossom” eyes curving into a smile. Her voice was soft and light: “Classmate Fu? What are you looking at?”
It was such a formal, polite address, yet coming from Chu Xiyu’s mouth, it unintentionally carried a hint of coquettishness. The end of her sentence rose slightly, a subtle, lingering hook.
Fu Zhou snapped to attention. She quickly glanced left and right, appearing completely flustered when her gaze landed back on Chu Xiyu.
There was a very soft laugh. Then, the scent of roses drifted past as Chu Xiyu entered the classroom.
Behind her, Zhou Heyu gave her a light tug. “Isn’t that the girl you bumped into yesterday? What, you’ve got your eyes on her?”
Fu Zhou slapped her hand away. “Be serious. That’s the ‘sister’ I told you about, the one my dad brought home.”
Zhou Heyu froze, then stole a hurried, belated glance into the classroom. “That pretty? Is she a stepsister?”
“Not sure. Whatever he wants.” Fu Zhou crossed her arms behind her head and headed to the restroom with Zhou Heyu.
She truly didn’t care who Fu Li brought home or if he had someone else outside. As far as her memory went, her father and mother had never been in love, even unto death.
The quiz wasn’t long. Fu Zhou’s grades had always been at the bottom of the elite class, in a school of a thousand, she usually ranked around six or seven hundred. There was always a massive gap in scores once it reached her.
She didn’t know how to do most of the Qiangji level problems, but managing to scrape through just two took her over fifty minutes. When she handed it in, Mediterranean looked at her over his reading glasses, squinting.
He pinched her paper with his index finger, staring at the two crookedly solved problems for a long time. A murky sound came from his throat as he spat on the ground.
Then he nodded, signaling her to return to her seat.
Rarely enough, he dismissed the class on time.
The moment the bell rang, Fu Zhou dashed out. Based on experience, it wouldn’t be long before the classroom door was surrounded by people “pretending” to pass by while stealing glances at her face.
She wasn’t blind, but she didn’t like receiving love letters, she was face blind, and she hated memorizing names.
Zhou Heyu didn’t bother chasing after her. An Alpha in a rush for food was a terrifying force. By the time Zhou Heyu arrived at the cafeteria, Fu Zhou had already claimed their usual spot and bought her meal for her, saving her from the crush of the crowd.
Fu Zhou went to her usual window. The lady working there smiled and handed over two trays piled high like mountains. Fu Zhou curled her lips into a smile and gave a sweet “Thank you, Auntie.”
She carried the two trays toward a corner, the eyes of those around her darting between her food and her face.
But today, the crowd around her wasn’t as thick as usual. Suddenly, an exclamation erupted ahead. Fu Zhou’s ears perked up, she could faintly hear words like “Omega” and “beautiful.”
She stopped in her tracks and, still carrying the food, walked toward the crowd.
Across a moderate distance, Fu Zhou’s gaze traveled through the gap between the two food trays, over the surging tide of people, and locked eyes with the girl standing in the center of the crowd.
“Is this the new Omega? We only have about a dozen in the whole school. She looks pretty, but she doesn’t seem that different from us.”
“Exactly. Omegas are just pretty. Look at the others, Alphas are still stronger. Take Fu Zhou from Grade 11, Class A. Not only is she good-looking, she eats so much! I saw her playing ball in PE once, the muscle lines on her arms are amazing, and she has abs!”
“You just want to date her.”
“Hahaha, too many people like her.”
Two girls turned to leave as they joked, only to freeze when they spotted Fu Zhou. Their faces visibly flushed a faint pink.
Fu Zhou shifted her dark eyes slightly, balanced the two trays with one hand, and pushed into the crowd.
“Make way.” Her voice was crisp and recognizable. With just one sentence, she drew all eyes toward her, including Chu Xiyu’s.
And so, Chu Xiyu watched as the girl carrying two trays of food squeezed through the curious onlookers, took her hand, and led her out. All the noise was left behind. In her ears, there was only the Alpha’s breathing, and at the tip of her nose, the faint, lingering scent of wine.
She led Chu Xiyu to her usual corner and placed one of the trays in front of her.
“Don’t mind them. That’s just how they are. Every time a new Alpha or Omega comes to school, they get surrounded and critiqued for at least a week.”
“Is that so? Was Xiao Zhou critiqued too?” Chu Xiyu didn’t decline the food. she pulled a pair of chopsticks from the holder but didn’t start eating immediately.
Her lips curved, her clear gaze falling on Fu Zhou, who was already stuffing large mouthfuls of rice into her mouth.
“Yeah. Since I started here, I’ve been surrounded constantly. Even now, plenty of people come to stare.” Fu Zhou spoke dismissively. She didn’t think much of it; not many actually wanted to date her at least, not many had confessed.
She didn’t notice that the gentle eyes of the girl before her had dimmed, and the smile on her lips had become even more alluring. “Is that right?”
“Mhm, mhm.” Fu Zhou focused on eating.
She was truly starving. Ever since she neared her presentation, she was hungry every single day. She felt like a human garbage disposal, never full. During this one hour for lunch, she spent at least forty minutes eating.
It wasn’t until she was a third of the way through the tray that she realized she might have forgotten something.
Fu Zhou paused, her gaze stiffly shifting toward the area behind her.
Zhou Heyu had just arrived with a tray of her own. She sat at the table behind them, flashing Fu Zhou an ambiguous, meaningful, and slightly teasing smile.
Fu Zhou: “…”
Just great.
