Seduced By My Omega Stepsister - Chapter 19
The Younger Sister in the New Family
Fu Zhou’s “puppy tail” drooped completely.
She walked alone behind Zhou Heyu and Zhang Meng, intentionally lagging half a step behind.
The two in front exchanged a glance and, in unison, stepped back half a pace to flank Fu Zhou, sandwiching her between them as they moved forward.
“Hey, hey… what are you two doing?” Fu Zhou struggled for a moment, but failing to break free, she simply gave up and let them push her along.
“What happened? You look dead to the world. Did you see your sister getting intimate with some other boy or girl?” Zhou Heyu looked at her suspiciously. Fu Zhou only ever looked this pathetic when she was lovesick usually, she bounced back quickly from any setback.
“Nothing like that.”
“Chu Xiyu wasn’t in class. The teacher next door said her father came looking for her, so she left early.”
“Isn’t her father your father too?”
As soon as Zhou Heyu’s words landed, Fu Zhou’s sluggish brain began to grind like a stalled machine. Simultaneously, a strange alarm went off, and her blood seemed to rush backward toward her head.
“Her father… the divorced one? He came looking for her alone? To do what?”
For some unknown reason, Zhang Meng saw the two in front of her suddenly stand bolt upright. Then, in sync, they hoisted their backpacks and pulled her along as they bolted toward the exit.
“What’s going on?” Zhang Meng asked, struggling to keep up the pace while looking at Fu Zhou in confusion.
“Broken home, the ‘original’ dad showed up at school and specifically told the teacher he wanted to take her out alone. According to how these plots usually go, this is a recipe for disaster,” Zhou Heyu explained to Zhang Meng with a modicum of patience, noting the tension in the corners of Fu Zhou’s mouth.
Zhang Meng pursed her lips. Her eyes, usually calm and ripple-less, began to show flickers of doubt and bewilderment. She looked at her two frantic friends and swallowed the word “insane” that was right on the tip of her tongue.
Fine. Life is a wilderness; if someone was going to make a fool of themselves, at least it wasn’t her.
“So, how are we supposed to find her?” Out of the school gates, Zhang Meng threw out a cold reality check. The city was huge, god only knew where Chu Xiyu’s original dad had taken her. Looking for them like this was less efficient than just waiting at the front door for her to come home.
“I’ll scent her.” Fu Zhou wrinkled her nose and actually started sniffing. She tracked the scent all the way, stepping over fallen leaves on plane tree-lined paths and turning through winding alleys, until she spotted Chu Xiyu’s silhouette in a quiet, artsy cafe.
A refined, gentle-looking man sat opposite her, a warm and considerate smile on his lips.
The rose scented pheromones in the air carried a hidden sense of joy and belonging. Fu Zhou stopped in her tracks.
She slightly lifted her dark, puppy-like eyes, while simultaneously extinguishing the ripples of emotion that usually appeared whenever she encountered Chu Xiyu.
“This… should we still go in?” Zhou Heyu asked hesitantly. From where they stood, the pair looked like they were having a very pleasant conversation. Moreover, their features shared a similar gentle quality.
Sunlight filtered through the lush midsummer branches, fractured by the leaves into dappled shadows that covered half of Fu Zhou’s face, casting a subtle shade of unease.
“Let’s go see.”
Fu Zhou walked quickly. Step by step, the distance closed until she heard the girl’s laughter.
The voice was gentle, carrying a sincere note of happiness.
“I’m doing very well here. I get along quite well with the younger sister in the new family. Please take good care of yourself.”
Fu Zhou froze on the spot, as if blocked by an invisible wall.
She was… the “younger sister in the new family.”
And this supposedly “well-behaved” sister from the new family had relied on the connection between their pheromones to track her here like a rat in the shadows, eavesdropping on them, eavesdropping on a secret that belonged truly to Chu Xiyu’s blood kin.
The air she breathed seemed to be laced with blades, causing a dense, prickling pain in her throat.
She turned around, avoiding the bustling crowds, and walked toward the deeper end of the alley.
Her two friends, sensing the shift in her mood, hurried to follow.
Naturally, they missed the hidden gaze behind them.
In the middle of the conversation with her biological father, Chu Xiyu’s gaze had grown distracted. she lowered her eyes, her gland sensitively detecting the scent that had been hovering in the air for a long time, the slightly bitter aroma of green plum wine.
“Um, I have some things to attend to, I’ll head back now. Dad, you should head home early too.”
The man was stunned for a moment. Before he could react, the slender girl had already stood up and walked toward the direction where the scent of green plum wine was strongest.
