Seduced By My Omega Stepsister - Chapter 12
“Then let her get sick.”
The sky outside was heavy.
It looked like rain was coming. Fu Zhou looked at the umbrella leaning against the door and habitually handed it to Chu Xiyu.
There was only one umbrella in the house; she usually used it herself, but as an Alpha, she felt that if it really rained, Chu Xiyu would need it more.
During the second period, a light drizzle began to fall. It stopped in less than half an hour, but the sky remained gloomy and overcast afterward.
School let out early on Sunday at 2:00 PM. Fu Zhou quickly packed her things and intercepted Zhang Meng at the door.
“Big Missy Zhang, come on, let’s go practice outside. Three thousand meters… I feel like I’m going to run until I puke.”
Zhang Meng’s hands paused while packing, and she raised an eyebrow, making a “get lost” gesture.
“A physically gifted person like you is actually afraid of the sports meet?”
“You really think I can run three thousand meters?!” Fu Zhou’s eyes widened slightly. She hadn’t realized that in Zhang Meng’s eyes, she was considered that strong.
In her line of sight, the girl sitting in her seat lowered her gaze. For no apparent reason, she looked uncomfortable.
“Isn’t that the case?” The three thousand meter event was originally designed for Alphas and student-athletes.
“I can run a thousand at most. I feel like… three thousand meters is truly pushing the limit.” To her, three thousand meters felt the same as a thousand meters would to an ordinary girl.
“Then you… you just differentiated recently. Can you handle it?” Fu Zhou suddenly remembered. She had been developing her glands since childhood and had a foundation in physical fitness, but Zhang Meng had suddenly changed from a Beta to an Alpha, her development shouldn’t be that far along.
“I’ll try. We can’t find a third person anyway.” Zhang Meng avoided Fu Zhou’s gaze and slung on her backpack.
“My legs don’t feel great today. You run alone; I’ll keep you company at the track.”
“Thanks, Sister Meng~” Fu Zhou curved her lips into a sweet smile.
Fu Zhou planned to run until Chu Xiyu finished her tutoring. There were puddles on the track, so she applied a layer of glue to the soles of her shoes and waited for them to dry before stepping onto the lane.
“I’ll run a lap to warm up first. You time me in a bit!” she shouted from the track to the person sitting nearby.
The first warm-up lap was slow, intended solely to loosen her joints. Fu Zhou adjusted her breathing bit by bit, finding her rhythm.
On the other side of the track, Zhang Meng’s gaze remained fixed on Fu Zhou without blinking. She watched her running form, watched her finish the first lap effortlessly, and then watched as she approached, radiating heat.
Zhang Meng averted her eyes, her gaze dark and complicated.
People had begun to gather in groups of two or three. Wherever Fu Zhou was, a crowd would inevitably form. Moreover, it was no secret that Fu Zhou ran on the track at irregular intervals.
“One run. We’ll do one run and then leave.” Fu Zhou scanned the surroundings quickly. Words like “Elite Class” and “Two Top-tier Alphas” were already being whispered.
She felt her scalp go numb.
The moment Zhang Meng waved her hand, Fu Zhou bolted from the starting line.
She wore only her short-sleeved school uniform. Dark clouds hung over the track as every step she took splashed water, yet her next footfall remained steady.
Within a few minutes, a cold drop of rain hit Zhang Meng’s forehead. The surrounding chatter shifted to the topic of “rain.”
Zhang Meng looked down at her watch. Five minutes. Fu Zhou was only halfway through. Sweat dotted her forehead, her face was flushed, and her steps were growing heavy.
Rainy days have a significant impact on running, especially long distances and especially when so many people are watching.
During the final lap, Zhang Meng stood up and waited at the finish line, catching Fu Zhou just as she nearly collapsed to the ground.
Warm breath puffed against her neck, only to be partitioned off by a powerful scent of rose pheromones.
A black umbrella shielded them from above. Zhang Meng froze for a moment, took the umbrella, and then handed Fu Zhou over. It felt like a strange hand-off ritual.
The onlookers had scattered as the rain intensified. Only Chu Xiyu walked over, carrying the umbrella Fu Zhou always used, the one she liked very much.
“Did you guys not bring an umbrella?” Chu Xiyu looked at the pale-lipped girl in her arms.
Zhang Meng pursed her lips and pulled an umbrella from the side pocket of her backpack. “I forgot just now.”
Chu Xiyu nodded. “Let’s go sit on the bench over there for a while.”
Fu Zhou’s chest hurt, but she could hear Chu Xiyu speaking. For some reason, she felt that Chu Xiyu was a little angry.
“Chu Xiyu, I was the one who asked Zhang Meng to come with me. Don’t be mad.”
Her voice was weak, accompanied by slight panting. The scent of green plum wine drifted over with the teenager’s warm breath. Chu Xiyu’s fair neck went numb for no reason.
Her avoidance was too obvious. Fu Zhou froze, finally realizing how close they were. The edge of the umbrella blocked the view of the surroundings. Fu Zhou’s breathing was heavy.
Silence stretched through the ambiguous rainy season.
Walking to the side, Zhang Meng’s eyes drifted over and back. She reached into a compartment in her backpack and pulled out her phone.
In their three person group chat, messages from Zhou Heyu were scattered.
Zhou Zhou: “The two of you went running?” “Are you there? Are you there?” “It looks like it’s raining. Are you two still outside?”
“We’re heading back soon.”
Zhang Meng glanced at the two people walking side by side in front of her. She snapped a photo of their backs and sent it privately to Zhou Heyu.
In the photo, the taller girl leaned against the other girl’s shoulder, her body resting loosely. The other girl had her hand on her waist, supporting her remaining weight.
Youthful and ambiguous.
The next second, Zhang Meng’s phone exploded with notifications.
“Holy crap, who is that? Fu Zhou and that Omega from next door, her sister?” “This is so ambiguous. Is she really just a sister?!”
Zhang Meng’s fingers paused. She had been careless. She shouldn’t have shared it with Zhou Heyu.
“Oh right, they’re sisters. It’s normal for sisters to be close. I almost overthought it.”
Zhang Meng suddenly felt lucky that Zhou Heyu’s brain cells were so simple.
Zhou Zhou: “Are you guys going home now? Any other plans?”
“It’s raining. What else would we be doing?”
Zhou Zhou: “Oh, okay. I was worried you guys were having a ‘clique’ activity without me. I would’ve been really sad.”
“Yeah.”
Up ahead, the girl walking a few steps in front of her suddenly stopped. She turned around, her pale, emotionless peach-blossom eyes falling on Zhang Meng.
“Do you need a ride back? It’s raining.”
Fu Zhou had recovered somewhat. Only one of her arms was still draped over Chu Xiyu, though she was carrying most of her own weight now. “Is Uncle Zhang’s car still outside?”
Chu Xiyu nodded.
“Then okay, Zhang Meng, I’ll have Uncle Zhang take you home so you don’t have to call a cab.”
Zhang Meng looked at Fu Zhou, a small smile appearing on her lips. “No need, I can get back on my own.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, really.”
Fu Zhou had run for eleven minutes in the rain, under the gaze of many onlookers.
When they got home, she did something uncharacteristic and ordered takeout, even though it was only 4:00 PM.
Chu Xiyu handed a towel to the person excitedly placing the order. “Dry the water from your hair first.”
Once Fu Zhou took it, Chu Xiyu turned and went to take a shower herself.
The warm water washed away the chill brought on by the sudden rain. Chu Xiyu leaned against the door, her fair fingers gently wrapping around the palm of her other hand, feeling the tangible warmth of her own body.
She didn’t remind Fu Zhou to shower.
And Fu Zhou didn’t seem to be in any hurry to wash up either.
Young Alphas are always like this, thinking their physical constitution is strong enough to withstand anything.
But illness and accidents are unpredictable.
Then let her get sick.
Only after experiencing pain does one learn what should be done and what shouldn’t.
