Seduced By My Omega Stepsister - Chapter 10
Fu Zhou was avoiding her.
Yet, in the end, Fu Zhou still ended up leaning into Chu Xiyu’s embrace.
The person beside her smelled too strongly of alcohol, so Chu Xiyu sent the driver, Uncle Zhang, home first, claiming she and Fu Zhou wanted to take a walk. If Uncle Zhang saw Fu Zhou drunk and reported it to Fu Li, Fu Zhou would surely be punished.
The drunkard appeared well-behaved on the surface but was actually quite restless. It started with her lowering her head to sniff Chu Xiyu, then slowly nuzzling the soft flesh at the nape of Chu Xiyu’s neck. Chu Xiyu coldly let go, leaving Fu Zhou to follow slowly behind on her own.
Chu Xiyu moved forward along the road, trying to hail a taxi. This stretch of road was deserted.
The streetlights cast dappled shadows through the gaps of midsummer green leaves. Fu Zhou stepped on the shadows of the trees, following carefully behind Chu Xiyu just like when she was a child, following her own mother.
“Chu Xiyu, why don’t you ask why I went out drinking?” Fu Zhou’s voice was blurred. Chu Xiyu’s eyelashes trembled slightly, but she simply slowed her pace and kept walking.
Perhaps she wanted to know; perhaps she didn’t care that much.
“Chu Xiyu, are you too embarrassed to ask? Or do you also think I’m terrible… even Zhang Jiahao’s grades are better than mine.”
Terrible.
Chu Xiyu finally turned around, a flash of astonishment crossing her pale eyes.
“I know I’ve never been likable. It’s only because I’m an Alpha, everyone says so. Everyone’s kindness toward me is predicated on that.”
Chu Xiyu’s expression dimmed slightly.
It was true. If she weren’t an Alpha, then Fu Zhou a girl with poor grades, no special talents, and nothing but a sunny personality and a wealthy family, wouldn’t be worth so much affection from so many people.
But Fu Zhou was an Alpha.
So, what was she being so sentimental about?
The next moment, warm breath brushed past her sensitive gland and settled on the side of her neck.
“Chu Xiyu… but I’m still so glad I’m an Alpha. Because you’re an Omega.”
The palm of the girl supporting Fu Zhou trembled.
“Why?” she asked subconsciously, but the person in her arms merely mumbled, unable to utter another coherent word.
She was an Omega.
Omegas were a rarer, smaller group compared to Alphas. AO (Alpha/Omega) pairs were considered the ideal partners, capable of providing mutual solace; furthermore, their offspring would inevitably be Alphas or Omegas.
Cicadas chirped incessantly in the surrounding shadows, but for the first time, Chu Xiyu didn’t find them so noisy.
They eventually walked all the way home, huddled together, with Chu Xiyu supporting the hopelessly drunk little Alpha.
By the time they reached the front door, Fu Zhou was able to walk normally again, though the scent of alcohol hadn’t dissipated. She stared at Chu Xiyu without blinking as they entered and closed the door.
Just as she was about to call Chu Xiyu’s name, a slender, pale finger pressed against her lips.
“Shh. Don’t wake Auntie Chu, okay?”
“Let’s be quiet.”
Fu Zhou nodded obediently and followed behind Chu Xiyu.
Chu Xiyu stuffed her into the bathroom with a towel and went to the adjacent bathroom to shower herself. It was late by the time they had stumbled their way home, it was past 10:30 PM. There was school tomorrow, and her homework wasn’t finished.
After a quick shower, she returned to find Fu Zhou sitting on the edge of the bed waiting for her, wrapped in a towel. Beneath the towel, her collarbones were faintly visible, as was the small patch of pink, soft flesh on the side of her neck.
Fu Zhou was likely nearing her differentiation period. Especially now, with her consciousness blurred and her sense of security low, pheromones leaked steadily and persistently from that small gland, drifting toward Chu Xiyu.
Fu Zhou followed Chu Xiyu to her bedroom and sat there quietly, watching her finish her homework.
Under the dim, warm light, Chu Xiyu closed her workbook and turned back. The little Alpha was sitting there, her dark, puppy-like eyes shining clearly as she looked over.
“Chu Xiyu, are you done?”
She spoke with a lingering hint of tipsiness.
“Yes. Drink the honey water, then go back to your room to sleep.” Chu Xiyu glanced at the almost untouched glass of honey water on the nightstand.
“I don’t want to go back. I’m scared of the dark… but the internet says sleeping with the lights on makes you ugly.”
“So Chu Xiyu, can I stay with you? If we’re together, I won’t be scared.”
Chu Xiyu looked up abruptly, meeting Fu Zhou’s bright eyes.
Something felt stuck in her throat. she parted her lips slightly, but the words perhaps sharp, perhaps sarcastic, or perhaps gently comforting, were all swallowed back down.
“Fu Zhou, you’re drunk.” She raised her pale eyes. The moment they met Fu Zhou’s, it felt like a thousand-year-old icy spring colliding with warm water, being irrigated, blended and soaked through.
After a few heartbeats, Chu Xiyu was the first to look away.
Fu Zhou’s eyes were too pure right now, Chu Xiyu couldn’t even tell if she was conscious or serious.
She let out a soft sigh.
Why bother arguing with a drunkard?
“Fine. Let’s sleep then.” Her voice was soft and thick with exhaustion. Sensing Chu Xiyu’s mood and realizing how late it was, Fu Zhou nodded silently and tucked herself completely under the covers.
It was only a thin summer quilt, but it carried a strong scent of roses.
“Chu Xiyu, why is your quilt so thin?” Just as Chu Xiyu sat on the edge of the bed, she heard Fu Zhou’s unconscious mumble. Suddenly, she remembered the very thick quilt she had seen on Fu Zhou’s bed when she first arrived.
Would an Alpha be afraid of the cold?
“Are you cold?” Chu Xiyu looked down, her inquisitive yet hidden gaze falling on Fu Zhou’s closed eyes.
“Not cold… but a thick quilt feels more secure.” Fu Zhou’s voice grew weaker. Chu Xiyu leaned closer until she could feel Fu Zhou’s warm breath.
“Why do you need security? Fu Zhou, what are you afraid of?”
“Because…”
“Alright, go to sleep.” Seeing Fu Zhou’s brows furrow unconsciously, Chu Xiyu interrupted whatever she was about to say.
She lay down beside Fu Zhou and turned off the main light, leaving only a small energy-saving nightlight.
The moment the light went out, Chu Xiyu noticed Fu Zhou’s body give a slight shiver.
Then, the Alpha simultaneously dominant and fragile, burrowed into her arms. The faint scent of plum wine pheromones merged with the rose scent, almost completely intertwining in the night.
Before falling asleep, Chu Xiyu suddenly found herself curious about Fu Zhou’s reaction tomorrow.
Surely this much alcohol wouldn’t cause a blackout?
Was an Alpha’s tolerance always this low, or was it just Fu Zhou?
She seemed to think of many things, but remembered very little. Because Fu Zhou wasn’t that important, and neither were things related to her.
The next day, Fu Zhou was punished for not doing her homework and had to sit outside on a stool to copy it out. Many unfamiliar faces, coming and going from the stairs, glanced at her intentionally or otherwise.
There were many looks admiring, stunned, or playful. Chu Xiyu put away the exercise books on her desk, her gaze unreadable as she looked at Fu Zhou.
So this is what a “person of the hour” looks like? TV dramas didn’t exaggerate after all.
But after that, Fu Zhou avoided Chu Xiyu for an entire week.
Ever since that night of drinking, she even sat in the front seat of the car on the way to school and avoided her during bathroom breaks.
Fu Li had returned from his business trip. During these days, he frequently cast suspicious or inexplicable glances at them.
He was a Beta and couldn’t smell pheromones, so Chu Xiyu knew that the look he gave Fu Zhou was likely a elder’s concern for a junior. But the look he gave her had turned into more of a scrutiny.
Chu Xiyu sought out Fu Zhou, but the latter shifted her gaze and dodged away.
“Xiao Zhou, why are you avoiding me?” She watched the tips of Fu Zhou’s ears turn red. The irritation in her heart, mixed with inexplicably complex emotions, made the midsummer air feel even more scorching.
The temperature was clearly lower than it had been a week ago.
“I’m not avoiding you… I’ve just been really busy lately…” Fu Zhou still turned her head away, not daring to look Chu Xiyu in the eye.
She didn’t know how to interact anymore. She seemed to… like Chu Xiyu a little.
Fu Zhou was a very straightforward person; she could easily accept liking someone. But… this was her sister, Chu Xiyu, the daughter of the woman her father had brought home.
She was a bit at a loss.
Chu Xiyu lowered her eyes. “Busy with what?”
“Busy with homework, studying… and the sports meet. I signed up for the women’s 3000 meters.”
At the mention of this, Fu Zhou’s face crumpled.
None of those three things were things she liked. She didn’t even know why there was a women’s 3000m event. There were only two Alphas in the whole class, her and Zhang Meng, so the two slots were forced upon them.
“The sports meet… is the Student Council in charge?” Speaking of this, Fu Zhou’s eyes curved again, looking at Chu Xiyu with a sparkle.
Chu Xiyu looked into Fu Zhou’s eyes and nodded for no particular reason.
“That’s good. You have to cheer for me! I’m going back now.” Before she could even finish the sentence, the tips of Fu Zhou’s ears turned beet red, like summer cherries.
I want to taste them, would they taste like plum wine?
Actually, the Sports Department of the Student Council was responsible for the meet, which had nothing to do with the Academic Affairs Department Chu Xiyu was in.
However, that afternoon, Chu Xiyu went to the Sports Department to switch shifts. The sports meet was a grueling job, especially the logistics department, so the switch went smoothly.
Even so, Fu Zhou didn’t stop avoiding her just because of that conversation.
She truly became busy, no longer late or leaving early, biting her pen, or practicing long-distance running on the field amidst the admiring gazes and chatter of many girls.
Aside from occasional eye contact and the physical brushes when sitting together on the way home, they had no contact at all.
She and Fu Zhou seemed… so incompatible.
Friday night.
Two suitcases were neatly lined up outside Fu Li’s room again, as if he were going on a long trip.
Fu Zhou was used to it. Uncharacteristically, she didn’t go upstairs to shower at this hour. Instead, she sat in the first floor living room, watching the busy silhouettes of Chu Wen and Fu Li from a distance.
It’s fine.
Fu Zhou’s gaze drifted involuntarily, finally landing on the corner where her mother’s funeral portrait sat. Her eyes felt inexplicably sore.
Almost simultaneously, Fu Li’s voice drifted down from upstairs.
“Xiao Yu, come here for a moment.”
He was looking for Chu Xiyu specifically.
