Running Away While Pregnant with the Villain’s Child - Chapter 2
In the few days following her transmigration, Luo Xingran felt that her life was going impossibly well.
She had somehow integrated perfectly into this family, as if she had been the daughter of the Luo family all along. Despite having none of the original owner’s memories, her parents hadn’t noticed anything strange at all. From her picky eating habits to her verbal quirks, she seemed to be identical to the original girl.
Could this be my past life? she wondered. Impossible. Who would have a past life as a “love-brain” heroine in a live-in son-in-law web novel? No thanks, I reject that possibility.
Luo Xingran pondered for a while but couldn’t come up with a better explanation.
“Still daydreaming? It’s time for school!” Luo’s mother said. She couldn’t deny that when her daughter first returned, she felt a flicker of suspicion alongside immense excitement and surprise. But after two days together, that suspicion had vanished completely.
This “idiot” was definitely her biological daughter!
Whether it was her style of doing things or the “clear air of stupidity” in her eyes, it was impossible to mistake her. As a mother, she shifted between feeling that her daughter was the most precious jewel in the world and feeling that she was a total dimwit.
For instance, right now, Luo Xingran froze. “I… I still have to go to school?”
Only after saying it did she realize that she was indeed supposed to be in university. The only reason she lived at home was that her parents had bought a villa near the campus in cash so she could commute. Yes, a five-story villa… with an elevator.
As a “broke person” in her previous life, Luo Xingran couldn’t quite wrap her head around this level of sudden wealth.
“Of course! If you don’t study hard, how are you going to inherit the family business from your father and me?” Luo’s mother nagged, placing a bowl of bird’s nest soup in front of her. “Drink up and get to class! You’re already a senior, yet you’re still so flighty and foolish!”
Sipping the bird’s nest soup, Luo Xingran wondered if her mother had invented new vocabulary just to insult her. However, something else caused her pupils to shake with shock.
Wait… she was a senior…
She was about to graduate! That meant a graduation thesis and a defense!
What was she going to do? She hadn’t attended a single day of classes here!
With trembling hands, she opened her backpack. Oh boy—Financial Management! In her previous life, she had studied interior design. This career jump was no different from being asked to build a helicopter in the feudal era! No difference at all!
Regardless of her shock, school was mandatory.
“Why are you scaring her like that?” Luo’s father said with a smile, his tone full of doting affection for his wife.
“Hmph. When she suddenly changed into a different person back then, do you know how worried we were? In the end, only that girl from the Pei family could dream about her.” Luo’s mother spoke with gritted teeth, clearly feeling quite jealous.
At the thought of that period—when they were desperately praying to every god and Buddha—Luo’s father’s smile faded slightly. He was jealous too, but as the head of the household, he felt the need to remain composed.
“Our precious daughter needs to undergo some trials before she can take over our business.”
Seeing her husband on the same side, Luo’s mother wore a satisfied smile.
Meanwhile, Luo Xingran was wandering through an unfamiliar campus.
Without the original owner’s memories, navigating the strange classroom buildings made her feel like she was about to drop dead on the spot. She felt she would never find Building B1. This university was clearly prestigious—otherwise, why would they be rich enough to design the buildings like a literal maze?
Maybe I should just skip…
To be honest, she really wanted to give up. Luo Xingran stared at the identical-looking buildings and sank into deep thought. Was the price of a life of luxury and wealth her current mental breakdown?
And why—why did she transmigrate and still end up with no sense of direction? Why did she inhabit a body that was also a “road-blind” person? And why on earth were there no taxis inside the school? This was a cruel punishment for someone who couldn’t read a map.
“Excuse me? Are you lost?”
A pleasant female voice descended like a miracle, sounding sweeter than celestial music to Luo Xingran’s ears.
“Yes! Could you please tell me where Building B1 is?”
Luo Xingran turned toward the voice and was instantly stunned by the girl’s face. How could someone look so glamorous yet heroic, so cool yet enchanting all at once? She was witnessing firsthand what it meant to be “androgynously beautiful.”
The beauty before her had long, flowing black hair and looked like a masterpiece of divine design. From her face to her figure, from her kind demeanor to her graceful movements, she was captivating.
“B1? It’s the building right behind you on the left.”
The beauty’s voice was lovely, making Luo Xingran’s heart flutter with joy.
“Got it, got it! Thank you so much!”
Unfortunately, no matter how much her heart fluttered, she had to rush to class. According to fragments of notes found on the original owner’s phone, the professor for today’s Introduction to Finance was incredibly strict. How strict? One absence and your entire participation grade was gone!
Normally, students at this stage would be interning, but this university was different. It operated on a six-year system, with internships only occurring in the final two years.
However, one thing remained the same as in her memory:
As a senior, she had to write a thesis and defend it.
Luo Xingran etched the beautiful girl’s face into her mind, took a few more lingering glances, and then sprinted toward the building behind her.
She also secretly swore to herself that she, Luo Xingran, must learn how to ride a bicycle. In a school this massive, if she didn’t learn, she’d probably drop dead from exhaustion just running between these classroom buildings.
Well… the truth was, because she had been an orphan in her previous life, she never owned a bike; by the time she grew up, she was simply too afraid to ride one. It wasn’t until she saw that “great beauty” riding a bicycle just now that she felt the urge to learn.
Of course, there was another reason: this school was truly way too big.
When Luo Xingran finally made it to the classroom and successfully took a seat, the professor walked in. She felt a profound sense of relief, as if she had just survived a disaster.
The other students in the room were quite surprised to see her in such a state. Since when did Luo Xingran run to class? Wasn’t she always the picture of elegance? However, this version of Luo Xingran seemed much more… vibrant.
Slumped over her desk, Luo Xingran had no idea what they were thinking. If she did, she’d probably have a lot to say. She didn’t know about being “vibrant,” but she certainly knew what it felt like to be on the verge of death.
A handsome old man dressed in a suit opened his book and began a rich, engaging lecture. Luo Xingran found it hard to believe, but she actually understood it. The professor was excellent, and by the end of the session, she felt she had gained a lot. It felt as though a door to another world had swung open.
After class, just as she picked up her books to head out, two guys cornered her.
“Sister Luo, aren’t you going to watch Brother Li play ball?”
“Come on, go! We even chased away all the girls who came specifically to see him today.”
“Tell you what—if you want, we can chase away every single girl at the basketball court for you.”
The two of them wouldn’t stop orating, making Luo Xingran knit her brows in annoyance. Following their gaze, she successfully spotted the man who was likely the original novel’s male lead.
Sure enough, he was exactly as she imagined. He was passably handsome, but his greasy movements and expressions made her want to stay far, far away.
“Not interested,” Luo Xingran said ruthlessly, preparing to leave.
The two blocking her path didn’t expect her to reject them so quickly and harshly. Instinctively, they crowded around her again.
“Are you still mad at Brother Li?”
“Sister-in-law, that girl is just Brother Li’s ‘younger sister.’ You’re the main wife; you should show a little magnanimity.”
Those few sentences nearly made Luo Xingran vomit up her dinner from the night before. Great. For the first time since transmigrating, she felt that this “book life” was going to be a miserable chore.
Really? she thought. Facing such a repulsive, ‘low-quality’ man—the original owner actually liked him? Birds of a feather flock together. If the male lead’s friends were such loyal devotees of the “Main Wife” ideology, could the male lead himself really be “a lotus rising unsullied from the mud”? Where were their brains? Did they even have them, or were they eaten by zombies?
“If your brains are sick, go get treated immediately,” Luo Xingran snapped, her words sharp and piercing. “Otherwise, with a condition like yours, if you wait too long, the doctor might have to amputate everything above your shoulders.”
“This is the 21st century. Everyone is free, but that doesn’t mean you’re free to be loyal followers of a feudal society, okay? We were given freedom of thought, not freedom to be brain-dead.”
The two men turned bright red from embarrassment but didn’t dare to talk back. At that moment, the male lead stood up and walked over.
“Ranran, you’ve misunderstood. They didn’t mean it like that.”
Good grief. From the very first sentence he spoke, Luo Xingran felt that wave of nausea again.
“What a heavy scent of ‘Green Tea’ (manipulation). When they were blocking me, you played dead. Now that I’ve started scolding them, you rush out.” She paused, then smirked. “I couldn’t tell before… but man, you really must be into guys.”
After dropping that bomb, Luo Xingran bolted toward the back of the classroom. She didn’t give the male lead or his lackeys a single second to argue.
Oh, so you want everyone to think we’re a couple? Fine. Then you can be my ‘gay bestie.’ Heh.
If the plot wanted her to like this piece of trash, someone would have to possess her body first.
The classroom instantly erupted into a noisy mess of gossip about what had just happened. “Brother Li’s” face turned a sickly shade of green; clearly, his mood had hit rock bottom.
