Rich Cat A Would Never Fall in Love with a Fake Heiress - Chapter 1
City A, Mo Corporation Headquarters, eleventh-floor office.
The petite, blond Omega secretary was reciting the document in a polite, formulaic tone when she suddenly paused and looked at her distracted boss.
“Um, President Mo?”
Mo Li endured a severe headache, pressing hard on her forehead before opening her eyes with a slight frown to look at the person who had spoken.
“What is it?”
Secretary Su, noticing her displeased expression, gave a brief acknowledgment and quickly set down the documents requiring signatures. “The president of a subsidiary under Luo Corporation has requested to discuss cooperation with you at the evening gala.”
Mo Li waved her hand dismissively. “Got it, leave it there.”
But Secretary Su could no longer contain her curiosity and hesitated before asking, “May I ask… your face…?”
Mo Li was taken aback, instinctively raising her hand. As soon as her fingers brushed her cheek, she felt a sharp sting. She turned toward the floor-length mirror and saw three neat, dark red scratches starkly visible against her snow-white cheek.
“Tch, that damn cat.”
Secretary Su, ever perceptive, said, “I’ll fetch the healing device.”
After she left, Mo Li couldn’t help muttering under her breath, “Goddamn misfortune.”
In the mirror, her face showed a trace of irritation. Her elegant, raven-black curls cascaded down, just covering the subtle curves of her chest. A black chiffon wrap dress, cinched at the waist with a leather belt, accentuated her graceful silhouette.
No one could be more unlucky than her. After a night of heavy drinking, she had woken up in a waterlogged alley, clutching an unfamiliar black cat. The moment she loosened her grip, the cat had yowled angrily and swiped at her face several times, leaving its mark.
If not for the robust constitution of an Alpha, surviving such a humiliating night would have surely left her ill or feverish.
Dwelling on it was pointless. Mo Li opened the leather folder on her desk and began reviewing its contents carefully. In recent years, Mo Corporation had flourished, yet her own achievements and equity shares were minimal. The main company had only been handed over to her because her father had no interest in managing it, dumping the tedious responsibilities onto her.
Without real authority, she was merely an empty-shell CEO, her words and actions carrying little weight.
The Luo Corporation, involved in this collaboration, also held shares in Mo Corporation. If she could establish a private connection with Luo’s vice president, she might gain more influence at the next shareholders’ meeting.
She picked up her pen, about to sign the document, when the door creaked open.
Without looking up, she snapped, “I told you to knock.”
There was no response. The soft rustle of high heels on the carpet drew closer. Mo Li cursed inwardly. She had kept Secretary Su by her side precisely because of her propriety and perceptiveness, it seemed she needed to reinforce the rules.
She looked up, but her gaze froze the moment it landed on the figure with light chestnut hair.
“Your skills haven’t improved, but your temper has, huh? Sitting in the company I built from the ground up, living off my scraps, how’s that working out for you?”
A pale, slender arm reached out in front of her, the wrist turning slightly as it closed the file. Soft, light chestnut hair fell, catching the sunlight from the floor-to-ceiling window, while a hint of honey-colored lip gloss glimmered.
Mo Wang leaned forward with a flower-like smile, her face gentle yet exquisitely refined, reminiscent of harmless, fragrant white blossoms adorning the roadside.
But Mo Li knew all too well, Mo Wang was neither pure nor fragrant. This woman was rotten to the core, a colorless, odorless beta.
Back then, Mo Wang had taken her place and enjoyed over a decade of luxury as the Mo family’s heiress while she struggled in the darkness. What right did she have to show up now and calmly lay claim to the company’s ownership?
Mo Li lifted her eyes, a mocking smile curling her lips. “Don’t let your resentment get the better of you, Mo Wang.”
She reached out and tightly grasped the slender wrist. “I heard you had a pretty rough time after being kicked out. If you need it, I can spare you a few bites of leftovers, you can chew them over again like a cow.”
When Mo Wang was expelled from the Mo family, it was nothing short of humiliating. Not only was the adoption relationship severed, but her household registration was also cut off. The Mo family even invited the media to announce it to the world, as if terrified of being associated with her in any way.
Mo Wang’s smile vanished. She tried to yank her wrist back but failed, her voice icy. “Truly a stray cat from the gutters, crude and ill-mannered.”
Mo Li tightened her grip, pulling the other woman closer. As an alpha, she held an absolute advantage in strength. In an instant, the pen holder toppled, and black work pens scattered across the floor.
Their noses nearly touched as Mo Li grinned. “All thanks to you.”
Mo Wang gasped as her abdomen was struck, her head lowered as if lost in thought.
Mo Li watched her, but a sudden, cool, and alluring fragrance drifted into her senses, stirring something ambiguous within her. “Did you wear perfume just to see me?”
She shook her head, unwilling to acknowledge the inexplicable excitement rising in her heart.
Just as she was about to let go, a sharp slap landed on her right cheek, followed by the searing pain of a scratch.
Mo Wang rubbed her reddened wrist and said without mercy, “Don’t misunderstand. Those dirty years of yours weren’t my doing. I was the Mo family’s chosen adopted daughter, not your stepmother.”
Her gaze drifted to the scratch on Mo Li’s cheek.
Suddenly, a knock sounded at the door, and Secretary Su entered. Seeing Mo Li clutching her cheek, she hurried over, plugged in the treatment device, and pressed it against Mo Li’s face.
Mo Wang’s eyes flickered briefly. After a moment, she let out a scornful laugh and turned away. “No time to watch your little drama. See you around.”
The heavy oak door slammed shut with a loud bang, as if fueled by anger.
For some reason, Mo Li felt a pang of guilt. She took the treatment device and pressed it to her face, meeting Secretary Su’s surprised and curious gaze with a stern expression. “Next time, wait for my response before entering.”
Thanks to Secretary Su and Federation medical technology, the scratches and swelling on Mo Li’s face quickly vanished without a trace.
Her eyes inadvertently caught the logo on the treatment device, Qiang Wei Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Mo Wang’s company. When Mo Wang was expelled from the Mo family, she had chosen only this company. Since then, despite developing many advanced medical products, she had either lacked funding or faced controversies. Now, she was in the eye of the storm.
Mo Wang’s visit to the headquarters today was likely to find a way to clean up her mess. The thought brought a surge of satisfaction to Mo Li.
It would be best if Mo Wang ended up penniless and disgraced, forced to beg for help, only for Mo Li to pretend to refuse while ruthlessly exploiting her labor…
Feeling at ease, even work became lighter and more pleasant, and her headache gradually faded. After approving the sales department’s proposal, Mo Li looked up to find that it was already evening. A chilled bento box sat at the corner of her desk, though she had no idea when it had been delivered.
The smell of leftover food was unpleasant. Mo Li frowned slightly and released a faint trace of her pheromones, enveloping herself in a thin layer of blueberry scent before rising to get ready for the evening event.
If Mo Wang was a clay Buddha, then Mo Li was a paper tiger. She, too, would never easily let go of any resources she could grasp.
After a meticulous and elaborate grooming session, Mo Li arrived at the Qin Group’s banquet hall with Secretary Su. Soft light cascaded from above, reflecting off crystal glasses and shimmering brilliantly.
This was the full-moon celebration for the Qin family’s youngest daughter, though the guests were too busy socializing to pay much attention to the tiny guest of honor.
After exchanging greetings with the Qin family’s patriarch and subtly complimenting Mrs. Qin’s new jewelry, Mo Li found an excuse to slip away and search for Luo Licheng, with whom she intended to discuss a potential collaboration.
In such settings, business discussions usually took place only after both parties had done their due diligence and were mutually satisfied. Negotiating in public not only made it harder for either side to back out but also signaled to the business circle that the two companies were on good terms.
She picked up a glass of wine and slipped the waiter a generous tip.
Following the waiter’s direction, Mo Li spotted only a flashy head of golden hair, a man preening and puckering his lips at the champagne tower.
She quickly tugged at the waiter’s sleeve. “Where’s Luo Licheng?”
The waiter, pleased with his unexpected windfall, patiently explained, “This is Luo Liming, the son Mr. Luo recently acknowledged. You might not be familiar with him, Miss Mo. Today, the second young master Luo is just making an appearance to introduce himself to the business leaders.”
This was troublesome. Mo Li frowned, watching as Luo Liming, with hair resembling a fried egg, discreetly tugged at his suit jacket, which was wedged between his buttocks.
Does this kid even understand business?
As she hesitated, a slender figure with light chestnut hair stepped in front of her and approached Luo Liming.
“Young Master Luo, I heard you’ve just arrived in City A. Have you discovered any interesting places to have fun?”
Mo Wang, her hair cascading loosely and a single-strap dress adorned with sparkling sequins swaying gracefully, rested a hand on her collarbone. Her eyes sparkled as she smiled warmly at Luo Liming.
Luo Liming blinked, seemingly a bit flustered, but his mouth quickly stretched into a wide grin.
“I’m not some playboy who spends all his time having fun. I’m the president of the largest subsidiary under the Luo Corporation,” he boasted proudly, though his eyes roamed freely over Mo Wang, from her meticulously styled hair down to her exposed décolletage and the glimpse of her calves visible through the slit of her mermaid skirt.
He was so carried away that the faint, ink-like scent of his pheromones began to permeate the air, causing people nearby to frown and step away.
“Young Master Luo, your future is boundless,” Mo Wang said, her expression unchanged as she took Luo Liming’s hand and led him toward the VIP sofas near the dance floor.
Unable to hear their conversation, Mo Li frowned. Mo Wang’s skill in taming unruly men was as sharp as ever.
It was clear that this woman had caught a glimpse of the proposal on her desk earlier and was now here to sabotage her plans.
From a distance, Mo Li watched as Luo Liming took hold of Mo Wang’s arm. Instead of pushing him away, Mo Wang linked her arm with his, leaned against him intimately, and walked with him toward the main hall entrance.
Mo Li nearly choked on her drink. How could she be so unbothered by that lecherous stare from the good-for-nothing rich second-generation across the table?
As the two passed by her, Mo Li caught a whiff of Mo Wang’s perfume, a scent that grew increasingly intense, carrying an indescribable, ambiguous allure that lingered in the air.
Strangely, no one else around seemed to notice the fragrance…
Half-indignant and half-disdainful, Mo Li thought to herself, Luo Liming was just as blind. If it were her, she’d never want a beta like Mo Wang, drenched in cheap perfume and rotten to the core.
But after a moment’s hesitation, she set down her glass and turned to leave the hall.
Just in time to see Mo Wang elegantly tuck her long legs into Luo Liming’s flashy lemon-yellow Rolls-Royce convertible, her obedient posture fully on display.
As if sensing Mo Li’s gaze, Mo Wang tilted her head slightly, a sharp warning gleaming in the corners of her narrow eyes.
Mo Li’s phone buzzed twice. She glanced down.
Mo Wang: Get lost.
Mo Wang: Don’t interfere.
Mo Li clenched her phone tightly, a cold, grim smile twisting her lips. After all these years, Mo Wang still didn’t understand her well enough. Stubbornness ran in her veins, and the most obvious manifestation was this, she never took advice.
Taking the keys from a server, she slipped into her own ash-gray limited edition Audi, switched her shoes, and slammed the accelerator, following close behind.
