Xie Lanting never imagined that he would transmigrate into a white moonlight—the kind who doesn’t even survive to the start of the main story.
In the novel, the protagonist Gu Yunqi loses both his parents, lives a miserable childhood, and at his lowest point marries Xie Lanting. Xie Lanting gives him companionship and warmth, staying by his side through the hardest years.
Then he dies.
He dies before the protagonist rises to power—his death unexplained—becoming the one and only irreplaceable presence in Gu Yunqi’s heart.
Determined to survive, Xie Lanting decisively runs away from the marriage.
Unexpectedly, during his escape, he meets a man who hits every single one of his aesthetic preferences—basically his dream partner come to life.
Xie Lanting guides him in cultivation, helps him evade assassins, and shields him protectively behind his back, gently saying, “Don’t be afraid.”
The man—beautiful, kind-hearted, and seemingly weak—looks at their joined hands and softly replies, “Mm.”
Unfortunately, Xie Lanting’s escape ultimately fails.
On his wedding day, he looks up and realizes that his dream man is standing in the groom’s place, dressed in wedding robes.
The man says, “Actually, my name is Gu Yunqi.”
Xie Lanting: …Upon learning the truth, tears fall.
When Gu Yunqi met Xie Lanting during their respective escapes, he recognized the immortal lord immediately—but the immortal lord didn’t recognize him.
The immortal lord was good in every way, especially in how exceptionally kind he was to Gu Yunqi.
Gu Yunqi had originally planned to let Xie Lanting go. But at some point, he realized he could no longer bring himself to release that hand.
