Reborn as the Divorced Alpha Celestial Master - Chapter 4
After saying all that, Shi Rui didn’t care how Ji Yao reacted. She shot her a fierce glare and entered the hospital room.
Ji Yao stood there in a daze for a long time before finally sitting back down on the bench.
What a mess this was!
After closing her eyes to rest for a while, Ji Yao still hadn’t come up with a solution. It wasn’t until her phone rang that she rummaged around and pulled it out.
It was a WeChat call from a contact saved as 【Male O No. 1】.
Just by looking at the name, she could tell it wasn’t anything serious. Ji Yao pressed the reject button.
Then she scrolled through her contacts and found many similar names.
【Female O No. 2】
【Female B No. 3】
【Male A No. 4】
【No. 5…】
Too troublesome. Better to just deactivate the number.
This task diverted Ji Yao’s attention. Sitting on the bench, she applied to deactivate the number and then tried to recover her original one.
Having not used smart devices for so many years, Ji Yao was out of practice. It wasn’t until the sky began to lighten that she finally managed to retrieve her original WeChat account.
Clearly, this was her work account. The people in it were all respectable, even though she didn’t know many of them.
But the conversations were all normal.
Except for one person who stood out, the contact saved as “Boss.”
As for what kind of boss this was, Ji Yao got a rough idea after skimming through the chat history. The tone was similar to that of the person with the black profile picture on the other WeChat account, blunt and disgusting.
Ji Yao vaguely remembered who this person was.
Not long after she joined the TV station, a married female alpha in her forties had made advances toward her. But Ji Yao hadn’t taken the bait, pretending not to understand and politely rejecting her.
As a result, she hadn’t been promoted for two years. But now, things were clearly different.
Judging from the chat history on the other WeChat account, she and this person were now on very close terms.
It seemed her career had progressed a bit, too.
But this kind of progress wasn’t what Ji Yao wanted.
Before long, the person with the black profile picture sent another message.
【What’s going on with that number of yours?】
【Also, did Shi Yu go to the hospital last night? Did something happen?】 Followed by a mischievous grinning emoji. Ji Yao closed her eyes and didn’t reply.
Instead, she opened Weibo.
Someone had found out about things she hadn’t mentioned clearly, she had been photographed.
The Weibo account obviously wasn’t hers, either, but she just wanted to check the news, so it didn’t matter.
As soon as she opened it, she saw numerous mentions from strangers.
Almost all of them were insults. Ji Yao skimmed through them.
【When will this scumbag stop clinging to my Shi Jie!!!】
【Damn it. First, she spread rumors about marrying Shi Yu, and now she’s taking advantage of her while she’s drunk!】
【Trash alpha, get out of the entertainment industry!】
【Wait, Ji Yao was never even in the entertainment industry, she’s just leeching off Shi Yu’s fame. Bloodsucker!】
After reading, Ji Yao turned her phone face down on her lap, took a deep breath, and silently reassured herself: None of this was done by her, so the insults weren’t directed at her.
But if she wanted to know about her past, she’d have to rely on Weibo or hearsay from others.
Ji Yao thought for a while, wondering who around her could tell her what had happened.
But after turning it over in her mind, she realized the only people she could ask were her parents.
Since she had almost no close friends aside from a childhood friend from elementary school, the acquaintances she made as she grew older were all superficial. Immersed in the ocean of learning, she had neither the time nor the energy to make friends, and even less so after starting work.
So, she could only call her own mother.
The number was familiar, and Ji Yao dialed it directly.
But the person who now held the title of “Mom” had blocked her.
Unwilling to give up, Ji Yao tried several more times. After confirming she was blocked, she lowered her head in frustration.
Then, mustering her courage, she called her father.
Perhaps because she rarely called him in the past, Old Ji hadn’t blocked her. Still, after ringing for a long time, he ended up rejecting her call.
Ji Yao kept trying. After seven or eight attempts, he finally answered.
“Ji Yao, are you trying to get yourself killed by calling me? Your mom told me not to talk to you!”
A furious male voice came through, leaving Ji Yao stunned.
Although her father was an alpha, he was terrified of his wife. At home, he always spoke as gently as possible and rarely acted so harshly.
“Dad!”
“Don’t call me Dad. I don’t have a daughter like you.”
With a sharp click, the call was mercilessly ended.
Ji Yao felt a pang of bitterness in her heart. She tried calling again, but as expected, her call was rejected.
Then, her mother called her back.
Ji Yao’s mother was something of a career woman. Though an omega, she had built a successful career and was a decisive, formidable person.
Her tone reflected that. As soon as the call connected, before Ji Yao could say anything, her mother’s voice came through.
“Is this Ji Yao?”
“Your dad told me you contacted him again.”
Clutching the phone, Ji Yao nearly burst into tears, not even noticing the distance in her mother’s tone.
Three years in another world, coupled with last night’s intense events, had made her miss her mother’s voice terribly. She cried out emotionally, “Mom! I’ve missed you so much!”
“Are you out of your mind?”
“Didn’t we say we’re cutting ties? Why are you still bothering me and your dad?”
Ji Yao’s mother, Zhuang Meiyan, fired off several sentences in a row, leaving Ji Yao dazed.
Cutting ties?
If these words weren’t directed at her, she might have even joined in cursing such a heartless person.
“Mom, let me explain!”
“No, I don’t want to hear it. You have no excuses.”
With no chance to explain, Ji Yao was once again hung up on mercilessly by Madam Zhuang Meiyan.
This time, she gave up trying to explain things to her parents and decided to visit them in person sometime.
Then, she turned her gaze toward Shi Yu’s hospital room.
After a deep look, she decided to leave for the time being.
But just as she was about to go, a female alpha appeared at the end of the hallway. Dressed in a navy blue professional suit and carrying a handbag, she walked gracefully toward Shi Yu’s room.
Ji Yao’s eyes fixed on her.
She watched as the woman knocked on Shi Yu’s door. Shi Rui answered and greeted her familiarly, “Xie Bing, I ordered breakfast for you. Have it with Shi Yu and Panpan.”
“Okay.” Xie Bing replied with a smile. As she stepped inside, Shi Rui deliberately glanced at Ji Yao, as if speaking for her to hear, “That person is shamelessly refusing to leave. You and Shi Yu should be careful.”
Xie Bing also gave Ji Yao a brief glance and nodded. “I know, don’t worry.”
Though Xie Bing was an alpha, she lacked sharpness and carried herself with a gentle demeanor. Her care for Shi Yu was beyond reproach.
More than once, Shi Rui had thought, if only Shi Yu could fall for Xie Bing, she wouldn’t have to suffer so much, nor live in constant fear of her
Before closing the door, Shi Rui shot Ji Yao a hateful glare, so intense that Ji Yao couldn’t ignore it even if she tried.
She curled her lips, intending to turn and leave, but dizziness washed over her, forcing her back onto the bench.
Fragments of memories flashed through her mind.
Like scenes from a revolving lantern, she watched as a bystander.
There were many gaps, but she roughly understood: she and Shi Yu had grown close shortly after she left five years ago, and they had entered a relationship not long after.
She saw the outsider wearing her face, showering Shi Yu with affection during their courtship, only to turn cold shortly after they registered their marriage.
Accusing the pregnant Shi Yu of failing in her duties as an omega and flirting with others outside.
From her perspective, she could only see herself, unaware of Shi Yu’s inner thoughts. All she saw was “herself” subjecting Shi Yu to emotional neglect while engaging in ambiguous relationships with others.
Yet, unwilling to lose Shi Yu completely, she only flirted verbally with those others.
After Shi Yu gave birth, she tried every trick to win her back. If Shi Yu refused, she turned violent. Even after the divorce, she repeatedly used their child, Panpan, to lure Shi Yu to her home or elsewhere.
As for drugging, it had happened three times, from marriage to divorce.
This time was the worst: she had tied Shi Yu alone in the bathtub.
These memories infuriated Ji Yao, making her want to curse. The resentment from being hit and scolded vanished completely. Even if she hadn’t committed these acts, since they were done under her guise, she had to bear the consequences.
As for the reasons, she still wanted to explain.
After sorting through her memories, Shi Rui left the hospital room.
Perhaps thinking Ji Yao had already left, Shi Yu also stepped out, accompanied by Xie Bing, with Panpan clinging close to her leg.
Ji Yao sat at a moderate distance, yet it seemed only Panpan noticed her, offering a faint, puzzled smile.
Shi Rui walked ahead, while Xie Bing gently supported Shi Yu’s uninjured elbow from behind.
Shi Yu moved slowly, her body aching and her movements stiff from the support, yet she didn’t spare Ji Yao a single extra glance. Only after Shi Rui had left, as she turned to re-enter the room and reached for the door handle, did Shi Yu subtly pull her arm away from Xie Bing’s grasp.
Her relationship with Xie Bing had always been good, and she’d never been overly cautious because of their secondary genders. But ultimately,
she still disliked such intimate contact.
If it were her brother, she could overlook it. But with the former Ji Yao.
Shi Yu had often categorized Ji Yao into “past” and “present,” and each time, it filled her with self-disgust.
Ji Yao was Ji Yao.
Not a distinction between past and present, but one between the person she hadn’t seen clearly before and the one she now understood.
Beside her, Xie Bing paused briefly, glanced back at Ji Yao, then followed Shi Yu into the room.
“Wait!”
Just as Xie Bing was about to step into the room, Ji Yao suddenly called out. She watched as Shi Yu turned around, brows slightly furrowed, the disgust in her eyes completely unconcealed.
“Shi Yu, wait! I have something to ask you.”
Ji Yao had followed closely, deliberately timing it so that she caught Xie Bing halfway outside just as Shi Yu went in.
With her left hand holding the door and her right hand gently resting on Xie Bing’s back, she didn’t care whether Shi Yu could see the gesture she was only focused on feeling Xie Bing’s body temperature.
It was cold, unnaturally so for a human.
Not to mention the strange, shadowy pink haze lingering above her head.
