Reborn as the Divorced Alpha Celestial Master - Chapter 1
The clock showed 3 a.m.
Ji Yao stared at it in confusion and bewilderment.
Only after zoning out for a while did, she begin to grasp her current situation.
But she…
Shouldn’t she be battling the malevolent ghost at the foot of Jiukui Mountain right now?
Though it wasn’t broad daylight, it had just passed dusk. That ghost was so fierce it dared to roam around even before the sun had fully set. She had been dispatched by her sect to eliminate it, but she didn’t know.
Whether she could count it as a success.
Five years in another world had accustomed her to living in constant peril, yet not a moment passed without her longing to leave.
It was only because she couldn’t leave that she had no choice but to adapt.
Now, having abruptly returned, she felt an intense discomfort.
And a sense of tearing.
The minute hand on the clock had moved four notches, meaning she had been back in the brightly lit city, the place where she grew up for twenty minutes.
During this time, she had first sat on the balcony in a daze, then stood under the clock in a daze, slowly coming to terms with the fact that she had inexplicably crossed into another world and then crossed back.
It shouldn’t be too hard to accept.
Ji Yao thought that getting used to being back here would take far less time than it had taken her to adapt to the other world.
However, she first had to deal with this spaghetti strap nightgown, which she absolutely could not accept.
It wasn’t that she disliked wearing nightgowns, and spaghetti straps weren’t entirely out of the question.
But, staring at the revealing, body-hugging style reflected in the floor-to-ceiling window, she gritted her teeth in frustration.
To make matters worse, the window was open, and the wind kept blowing in. The transparent lace on her chest fluttered in the breeze, sending chills down her spine.
Her back was no better, the slit went all the way up to her waist and below.
Cold air rushed in relentlessly!
Ji Yao’s face flushed red, though it was hard to tell whether from the cold or from anger!
Barefoot, she strode over to the floor-to-ceiling window in a few steps and shut both panes.
She hadn’t checked the date, but judging by the windy weather, Ji Yao guessed the temperature outside couldn’t be high it was probably winter, the same season as when she had left.
She wondered how many winters had passed.
Ji Yao wanted to check the year, but the outfit she was wearing was an eyesore, and her discomfort only grew. She had no choice but to head to the bedroom to find clothes.
This apartment was one she had bought before her transmigration. Originally, she had planned to renovate it after winter, when the weather warmed up. Unexpectedly, she now found herself spared the trouble, she might only need to work on the soft furnishings.
Yet, a sense of displeasure began to spread.
Stronger even than the feeling of having traveled back and forth between worlds.
After arriving in the other world, she had worked diligently to transform from a sickly weakling into a celestial master capable of standing on her own. She felt she had done justice to the body she had borrowed.
But what about her?
What had happened to her own body and her life in the meantime?
Her clothing style had become too revealing not to her taste.
The decor was in a light luxury style, which was acceptable, but it leaned toward the overly exaggerated!
Entering the bedroom, Ji Yao took one look at the princess bed in its deathly Barbie pink hue, and her heart trembled!
She, Ji Yao, a female alpha in her twenties, wasn’t opposed to pretty clothes or beautiful decorations.
But this color scheme was practically dancing on her pet peeves!
She preferred light colors, simple decorations. She would wear spaghetti strap nightgowns, but she liked them in soft, elegant shades!
Taking a deep breath, Ji Yao ignored the glaring princess bed and walked straight to the wardrobe.
With a mix of resignation and anticipation, she opened it.
Then, she quickly shut it again.
Damn it!
Why the hell is everything pink?!
And not just one shade of pink various shades of it!
Now, looking back at the black spaghetti strap nightgown she was wearing, it didn’t seem so hard to accept after all.
After taking a moment to compose herself, Ji Yao still opened the wardrobe and rummaged around for a while before pulling out a light gray knit cardigan to slip on. Then, she returned to the living room.
It had been three years since she last touched a phone, and for a moment, she didn’t even remember it. It wasn’t until she sat back on the sofa and heard a faint sound that she hesitantly lifted a cushion.
A pink strawberry phone case glared brightly back at her.
Ji Yao roughly removed the phone case and tried unlocking it with her fingerprint.
When she had left this place, fingerprint unlocking had just started to become popular. She vaguely remembered it and decided to give it a try. But as she held the phone up, it unlocked.
It was facial recognition.
She didn’t have to put in any effort.
The phone’s interface was a mix of familiar and unfamiliar apps, but after a moment’s thought, Ji Yao figured she could manage them.
Opening WeChat, she felt immensely grateful that she hadn’t traveled back more than a decade. If it had been an era when smartphones weren’t yet widespread, she probably wouldn’t even have guessed what this device was, let alone understood the flood of red notification dots on WeChat.
Ji Yao carefully counted the number displayed on the WeChat icon exactly 54 unread messages.
She slowly opened the app and was met with a jumble of random profile pictures. Many of them clearly belonged to omegas, and one person in particular had sent over 20 messages.
The last one read: 【Will you come to Nightfall again tomorrow night?】
Nightfall.
A familiar yet tacky name. Ji Yao had some recollection of it, a bar that had been around for years, known for its chaotic atmosphere and all sorts of patrons.
Most of the crowd consisted of young omega escorts.
She had never been there herself; everything she knew was from hearsay. Back then, she had thought to herself, “I’d rather die than set foot in a place like that!”
But clearly, now she seemed to be a regular.
With a casual scroll, she found five or six messages all asking if she would be going to Nightfall tomorrow night.
Really, damn it!
Ji Yao deleted all these messages in one go, feeling a bit more at ease. Then, she turned her attention to the messages from the pinned contact.
The profile picture was plain black, with no deliberately seductive photos.
It seemed like this person was probably decent.
The other party had sent a picture, which Ji Yao had to open to see clearly. Without hesitation, she tapped on it.
The picture was of a hand, with particular emphasis on the length of the fingers.
Scrolling up, she found more messages, mostly about work-related matters, such as details about a program called “You and My Song.”
Ji Yao wasn’t familiar with this show, but it reminded her of a popular music variety show from years ago.
Reassured that it was work-related, Ji Yao finally felt her tension ease.
But that relief didn’t last long. The other person sent another message, a question mark.
Ji Yao tried replying and sent a question mark back.
The response came quickly, as if the other person had been waiting for her.
【Don’t play dumb. How’s the nightgown? Send me a photo.】
When Ji Yao read this WeChat message, her face turned green. Immediately after, another message came through.
【Forget it, let’s just video chat.】
Without giving Ji Yao any time to react, the person initiated a video call. Panicked, she hastily hit the decline button.
Not long after, another message arrived.
[“Little thing, you really know how to tease me.”]
And then, nothing.
Ji Yao slid down to the floor, staring blankly at her phone.
This WeChat account wasn’t hers.
The number wasn’t, the profile picture wasn’t, and even the phone number wasn’t.
But her facial recognition couldn’t lie. Even if it wasn’t her old WeChat account, it still belonged to her Ji Yao.
Covering her face, Ji Yao staggered toward the bathroom, wanting to wash off the grime of the day. But before she could take more than a few steps, she heard strange noises coming from inside.
Her ears twitched slightly, and her expression tightened as she focused on the sound.
The alternate world she had transmigrated into was one where demons, ghosts, and humans coexisted.
Countless sects and training guilds existed, and while not everyone could become a celestial master, vigilance and the ability to avoid such creatures were essential skills for everyone.
Having trained there for years and eventually becoming a celestial master, Ji Yao was naturally more alert than the average person.
Her apartment carried no strange aura.
But the unusual sounds were undeniably present and couldn’t be ignored.
Adopting the mindset of “better safe than sorry,” Ji Yao formed a hand seal and cautiously approached the bathroom.
Though her current body was nowhere near as capable as her previous one, she had to make do for now and gradually rebuild her strength later.
So, for the moment, she could only tread lightly on the balls of her feet, careful not to startle whatever was inside.
With a creak, she pushed the door open, and an elegant yet intense omega pheromone scent washed over her.
The aroma made her hand seal falter, and her heels dropped fully to the floor.
A gentle breeze swept in, intensifying the sweet, rich fragrance of misty clouds.
After so many years, she had almost forgotten what it felt like to possess an alpha physique. Though she felt a vague discomfort, she could still maintain a degree of clarity.
The unmistakable scent of an omega completely eased her guard. She lowered her hand and gripped the doorknob.
A moment of hesitation flickered in her heart.
After all, she was an alpha. Appearing before an omega in an unknown condition wasn’t exactly appropriate.
But she couldn’t just stand there doing nothing, either.
She knocked lightly on the door a few times. When there was no response after a while, she finally opened it.
The sight that met her eyes made Ji Yao’s eyes widen in shock.
In the bathtub lay a female omega wearing a thin, pure white nightgown. Her soft, fluffy long hair was damp, clinging to her skin, and the front of her gown was soaked, revealing her figure clearly. She let out a few soft, restless moans.
What a sight, a beauty in heat, drenched and alluring.
But for Ji Yao, this situation was clearly far from ideal.
And the more she looked, the colder her heart grew.
Because the omega’s neck, wrists, thighs, and ankles were marked with red welts.
It was obvious she had been tied up and had struggled free with great effort.
This was her home. The only person who could have done such a thing was unlikely to be anyone else.
Standing frozen in place, Ji Yao weighed two options: either find an inhibitor or take the omega to the hospital.
The first possibility was uncertain, she had no idea whether the “her” who had brought the omega home would have stocked omega inhibitors.
But the second option seemed even less reliable.
She wasn’t sure why she wasn’t heavily affected by the omega’s pheromones, but taking the omega outside and to the hospital would pose far too great a risk.
So without hesitation, she turned to search for omega suppressants.
The house was unfamiliar, so Ji Yao could only search aimlessly. She found alpha suppressants, but omega ones.
Clearly, there were still none.
Just as she was about to continue searching, Ji Yao suddenly heard something fall in the bathroom.
She stopped searching and turned back.
As she had expected, the omega lying in the bathtub was struggling to break free, her posture alluring, with a ribbon still loosely tied around her ankle, an indescribable atmosphere spreading around.
Damn, she really knows how to play! Ji Yao cursed inwardly as she walked over to help the person up.
But the moment she touched the omega’s arm, she felt icy fingertips dig into the back of her hand.
The omega looked up, revealing reddened, seductive corners of her eyes.
When Ji Yao saw her face clearly, her thoughts slowed for a moment, and her hand gently slipped away, afraid of hurting her.
Unexpectedly, the hand she had released lifted slightly and slapped her across the face.
The force wasn’t heavy just a bit more than a gentle touch but the person in front of her seemed to have exerted all her strength, her chest heaving violently.
Ji Yao’s fair face bore a faint mark from the slap, and her displeasure surged within her. Yet, because of who this person was, she didn’t know whether to react or not.
As their eyes met, those reddened eyes struck her heart once again.
This was Shi Yu, how could it be Shi Yu?
The familiar yet unfamiliar face made Ji Yao’s heart clench painfully.
“Get lost, Ji Yao. Don’t look at me with your filthy eyes.”
Perhaps due to her emotional breakdown, tears welled up in Shi Yu’s eyes, stubbornly refusing to fall.
Her body trembled even more violently, but she tried hard to suppress it, tilting her head slightly to look at Ji Yao.
“And don’t touch me.”
