Reborn as a Scummy Alpha, I Became Every Heroine's Obsession - Chapter 58
Gu Qiqi gazed at the fireworks blooming across the sky.
The dazzling, multicolored reflections shimmered in her pupils.
Suddenly, she thought of her sister.
The only reason she knew these were called fireworks was because her sister had once described them to her, how they lit up the grand festivals in Central City and adorned the skies outside bustling shopping centers in magnificent displays.
They could turn night into day, illuminating everyone’s eyes.
The fringe districts would never have such extravagant luxuries.
So, her sister would fold scraps of paper into flower shapes, color them, and toss them into the air.
As a child, she would stare blankly at the sky, dreaming of Central City’s splendor.
Central City and the fringe districts might as well have been two different worlds.
But why had her sister refused to return to Central City? Why had she never let Gu Qiqi stay there either?
Feng Jiying walked along the digital screen pathway, each step causing vibrant flowers to bloom beneath her feet.
She stopped in front of Gu Qiqi.
Little Qi curiously stretched out a paw, tugging at Gu Qiqi’s collar.
Gu Qiqi reached a hand toward the sky, grasping at nothing. The fireworks burst overhead, so vivid it felt as though she could almost touch them.
This was something she had once only dreamed of now suddenly within reach.
A lump formed in Gu Qiqi’s throat.
She swallowed the bitter ache rising inside her.
Only in moments of happiness did one truly understand the taste of sorrow.
Her past had been so unbearably hard.
But she had learned not to trust easily anymore.
A wounded creature would only bare its teeth at strangers before retreating to lick its wounds in solitude, never again exposing its vulnerability.
Gu Qiqi murmured, “President Feng’s generosity is truly impressive.”
Feng Jiying’s almond-shaped eyes fixed intently on Gu Qiqi’s expression. “As long as it makes you happy, I’d do anything.”
Gu Qiqi opened her mouth but found herself at a loss for words. “President Feng, you must be joking again. How could someone like me, an alpha from the fringe districts dare to presume a connection with you?”
Her hands clenched into fists at her sides, then loosened. “Your moods shift too quickly for me to follow. How can I trust your words when just days ago, you looked at me with such hatred, your eyes cold enough to freeze a person to death? And now, suddenly, fireworks? It’s hard to make sense of you.”
Feng Jiying replied, “I’ve already explained everything. There were misunderstandings between us, but they’ve been cleared up now. Didn’t you say we were friends?”
As soon as the words left her lips, another round of fireworks erupted, crackling and popping across the sky.
Each explosion bathed the night in daylight, illuminating their faces every expression, every contour, even the flickering emotions in their eyes. But as the fireworks faded, darkness reclaimed the sky, and the familiar face before her blurred once more.
Gu Qiqi suddenly let out a light, mocking laugh. “I really don’t know how President Feng defines the word ‘friend’. Friends should have each other’s backs and trust one another. Yet despite all your talk of misunderstandings, the moment that incident happened, you immediately assumed I was the culprit without hesitation. Even if there were misunderstandings, shouldn’t you have had some doubts and carefully verified things first, considering we were supposed to be friends? It seems I was just that kind of person in your eyes.”
Feng Jiying paused her fingers for a moment before finally raising her hand to gently stroke Xiao Qi’s furry head.
Gu Qiqi continued, “For someone like President Feng, setting off fireworks isn’t difficult. Building such a long electronic road isn’t particularly laborious either, since you don’t have to do any of it personally. When the misunderstanding occurred, you treated me coldly, indifferent to the electric shocks I suffered. And now that the misunderstanding is cleared, you think doing a few trivial things, trivial to you can just erase my doubts and suspicions?”
“President Feng, you’ve never put us on equal footing. Friendship requires mutual respect, but in your eyes, we were never equal to begin with. You’re the lofty Feng Corporation president from Central City, while I’m just some country bumpkin from the border districts. You naturally assume absolute dominance, so how our relationship is defined is entirely up to you can misunderstand me when you want, and expect forgiveness when you want.”
At this point, Gu Qiqi suddenly smiled in resignation, as if convincing even herself. “So President Feng, we were never really friends. We’re just strangers forced together by special circumstances. You have your considerations, I have my concerns. I was too naive. There’s really no need for you to do any of this for me…”
Before Gu Qiqi could finish her last sentence, Feng Jiying raised her hand to cover her mouth.
Feng Jiying said, “Since I don’t want to hear any of this, let’s stop here.”
Having lived alone for 21 years after her parents’ death, no one had taught Feng Jiying how to love or what being loved felt like.
The image of Gu Qiqi disappearing into white light before her eyes, and the inexplicable electronic notification that Gu Qiqi was to be terminated each memory brought a dull ache to her chest.
Only one thought remained: she didn’t want Gu Qiqi to die, nor to leave her.
Feng Jiying grabbed Gu Qiqi’s wrist and pulled her toward the car.
She scooped up Xiao Qi from her arms and placed the kitten into Xiao Bai’s hold.
Xiao Qi meowed plaintively at their retreating figures, its bright round eyes staring incredulously at its two mothers abandoning it just like that.
Feng Jiying shoved Gu Qiqi into the car.
Gu Qiqi was still dazed.
Strangely, Feng Jiying remained unusually composed this time.
In the past, hearing such words would have made her livid.
Settling into the driver’s seat, Feng Jiying glanced sideways at Gu Qiqi. “How do people from the border districts drive?”
Gu Qiqi blinked. “Most people from the border districts… don’t have cars. Those who do are usually the reckless, privileged types who charge down roads without a care.”
Feng Jiying simply responded with a faint “Okay,” then floored the accelerator before Gu Qiqi could react.
Body flying ahead, soul chasing behind.
As a physically superior alpha, Gu Qiqi naturally wasn’t fazed by such a scene.
But the terrifying part was that the driver was Feng Jiying.
Though emotionally stable, Feng Jiying was the type who could do anything.
Feng Jiying: “I know where Chen Luofeng is being held.”
Gu Qiqi froze.
Feng Jiying: “After he kidnapped you, I originally wanted to teach him a lesson, but someone higher up protected him. I didn’t know he secretly subjected you to torture.”
Feng Jiying’s driving skills were terrible.
Though her expression remained as calm as ever, the car’s rear swerved wildly, jolting her body left and right, making it impossible to stay steady.
Gu Qiqi hadn’t expected Feng Jiying to have done all this for her back then.
Just as Gu Qiqi was about to say something, Feng Jiying shifted into the wrong gear. The car screeched to a sudden stop, and Gu Qiqi’s head slammed into the window with a loud thud.
Fortunately, both the glass and her head were tough enough.
Gu Qiqi: “……”
Feng Jiying tapped a few times on the car’s electronic display.
[Autopilot mode activated. Please set speed.]
Feng Jiying’s voice was cool: “220 mph.”
The moment Gu Qiqi opened her mouth, her body was already flung forward, her voice left trailing behind.
Gu Qiqi stared at Feng Jiying in shock: “Is there any need to drive this fast?”
Feng Jiying: “Speed relaxes the mind. Didn’t you say people in the borderlands drive like this? Just imagine this is the borderlands. Everything you never got to experience before you’ll experience it now.”
Feng Jiying always did things in the most awkward way.
Her intentions were good, but her execution was painfully stiff.
As if terrified someone might discover her feelings yet equally terrified they wouldn’t.
After a high-speed dash in the luxury car, the two finally arrived at a remote prison.
Feng Jiying scanned her iris.
The prison’s heavy gates slid open.
There were no human guards in sight only automated security.
With access granted, Gu Qiqi and Feng Jiying walked in unimpeded.
Chen Luofeng was locked inside a transparent electronic glass cell.
The moment he saw Feng Jiying, his face twisted into excitement, his expression turning vicious.
Calmly, Feng Jiying picked up a syringe from the side, opened the small hatch in the glass, and strode inside. In one fluid motion, she raised her arm and jabbed the needle into Chen Luofeng like a bullet.
Chen Luofeng instantly lost consciousness, collapsing limply to the ground.
Feng Jiying tossed the syringe aside and turned to Gu Qiqi. “Didn’t you say borderland grudges are settled with fists? You can hit him. He won’t fight back.”
Gu Qiqi was stunned by Feng Jiying’s efficiency.
So she didn’t waste the opportunity.
Without using any psychic energy, she gave Chen Luofeng a hands-on, full-body bone-rearranging massage.
After it was over, Gu Qiqi exhaled in satisfaction as she sat back in the car. “What if we get caught?”
Feng Jiying: “The moment you helped us get in, the federal government already knew. The fact that they didn’t send anyone to stop us means they tacitly approved our actions.”
Suddenly turning his head, Feng Jiying spoke earnestly to Gu Qiqī, “Whatever you want to do, I’ll make it happen for you. Gu Qiqī, I wasn’t lying to you. As long as you… don’t leave me.”
Feng Jiying pulled out delicate paper flowers made from white sheets from his pocket and unexpectedly scattered them across the car window.
At the same moment, not far away, brilliant fireworks burst across the sky once more.
The multicolored fireworks shone through the window onto the scattered white paper.
Gu Qiqi’s pupils contracted sharply.
Feng Jiying: “My craftsmanship isn’t great, but I made these myself. Fireworks fade in an instant, but my feelings like these paper flowers will never wither.”
Feng Jiying’s breathing grew labored as red patches began appearing on his skin.
Feng Jiying: “So… can you forgive me now?”
After speaking, he immediately lost consciousness.
Gu Qiqi tapped the terminal on Feng Jiying’s wrist.
Xiao Bai: “Miss Gu, the CEO is having an allergic reaction.”
Gu Qiqi puzzled: “Allergic reaction?”
Xiao Bai: “Correct. The CEO is allergic to cat fur. To take care of Xiao Qi, he’s been taking allergy medication continuously. After developing resistance, the allergic reactions have been getting worse.”
Gu Qiqi: “What should I do?”
Xiao Bai: “Try… CPR perhaps?”
