Reborn a Scummy Alpha, Happily Ever After with the Movie Queen - Chapter 6
Wen Tang gave the doctor a small nod. At this point, to clarify that she wasn’t Ye Youyi’s Alpha would only make things awkward.
Once the doctor left, she stepped into the observation room.
Ye Youyi glanced at the medicine in her hand and softly said thank you.
The girl’s eyes glittered like a starry sky, set against her fair, delicate face, shimmering as if filled with rippling lake water—so tenderly captivating it tugged at the heart.
It took Wen Tang a great deal of effort to pull her gaze away. “This is the medicine the doctor prescribed. The instructions are written on the label—make sure to take it and change the dressing on time.”
“Alright. Thank you.” Ye Youyi’s voice was as light as a feather landing in one’s palm, ticklish sweetness spreading through the chest.
Wen Tang gave a little cough and turned her head aside. “If you’ve rested enough, I’ll take you home.” The doctor had already said her injury was only superficial, no need for hospitalization. As long as she changed the dressing at home, she’d be fine. She only needed to return to the hospital if there were signs of inflammation or infection.
Ye Youyi lowered her head slightly, her tone carrying a trace of embarrassment. “I shouldn’t trouble you any further.” She bowed her head, her posture fragile and hesitant.
When Wen Tang turned back, her eyes fell on the pale curve of her neck, smooth and tender, still faintly marked. Her heart softened even more.
“Since I’ve already helped, I might as well see it through. I wouldn’t feel at ease letting you leave on your own like this.” As she spoke, Wen Tang stepped to the bedside, reaching out to help her up.
The instant her cool fingers brushed against the girl’s warm, delicate arm, it was as though a trail of tiny ants scurried over her skin, sparking a strange shiver.
Ye Youyi startled at the touch. She bit her lip and lifted her head, her misty eyes clear and guileless like a startled fawn’s. The unspoken words trembling on her lips made her look so fragile that one could never bear to cause her harm.
Wen Tang quickly let go, retreating a step. “I only meant to help you up.”
But the more she tried to explain, the more awkward it sounded. Ye Youyi ducked her head, inching toward the edge of the bed to put on her shoes herself.
Seeing how she struggled, Wen Tang itched to help, but then Ye Youyi’s soft voice broke the silence: “Wen Tang, do you know who I am?”
At sixteen, Ye Youyi had acted in a breakout film, Fragile, playing the female lead’s younger self.
With her sweet and pure looks tinged with a subtle allure, she had quickly drawn attention.
But after that, her career never really took off. To this day, Fragile remained her only notable work.
She knew she wasn’t famous. Yet this Alpha named Wen Tang had saved her twice, and treated her with such care. Perhaps, Wen Tang was actually a fan?
Otherwise, why had she never once asked for her name in these past few days? Why did she seem to treat her with such easy familiarity.
Wen Tang, oblivious to these thoughts, nodded and gave the original body’s connection. “Back in high school, I was in the class next to yours. I saw you a few times when you passed by, and I knew your name was Ye Youyi.”
Remembering how the original Wen Tang had once secretly bought out a whole cinema screening to support her, she added, “Later, when you joined the entertainment industry and starred in a film, I even went to show my support.”
That settled it for Ye Youyi. Wen Tang must be a fan. Slowly standing after putting on her shoes, her eyes shone with warmth. “So we were high school classmates? What a coincidence!”
But as soon as she stood, pain shot through her injured knee. Her body wavered, and she nearly collapsed. Wen Tang’s heart lurched.
Luckily, she wasn’t far. Wen Tang caught her, momentum drawing her into her arms. Though the pull was too strong, Wen Tang’s Alpha strength steadied them both at once. Still, the result was Ye Youyi pressed right against her chest.
The girl’s slender body leaned close, carrying a faint fragrance that sent Wen Tang’s head spinning for a moment.
Lowering her gaze, she found herself staring into eyes brimming with shy bewilderment.
A flush crept up Wen Tang’s ears. She didn’t dare release her too abruptly, her hands still resting against her soft waist, rigid with restraint. “Are, are you alright?”
Ye Youyi hurriedly looked away, her fair cheeks blooming red. “I’m fine thank you.”
Her naturally sweet voice, now tinged with girlish shyness, was even more irresistible.
Thinking her knee must truly make it hard to walk, Wen Tang ignored the system’s frantic warning in her mind. She softened her tone. “Your knee’s badly hurt. Why don’t I carry you instead?”
But when she noticed the crimson tips of Ye Youyi’s ears, she quickly added, “I don’t mean to take advantage of you—I just want to help. After all, we’re old classmates.”
The blunt words take advantage only deepened Ye Youyi’s embarrassment. She pushed lightly at Wen Tang, wanting to free herself. But her hand accidentally pressed against Wen Tang’s chest. The unexpected softness startled her, and she instinctively pushed harder, stumbling back in a panic.
The touch left Wen Tang’s mind blank. She let go at once.
But Ye Youyi, retreating too quickly, nearly lost her balance.
This time Wen Tang didn’t hesitate. She seized her hand and pulled her straight back into her arms.
Looking down at her pale, frightened face, all Wen Tang’s fleeting thoughts of intimacy vanished. She gently patted her back. “Don’t force yourself. Special circumstances call for special measures.” With that, she bent down, slipped an arm under her knees, and lifted her up.
The Omega’s fragrance lingered at her nose, laced with a hint of milk-sweet warmth that made Wen Tang’s heart tremble. She tightened her grip and strode toward the door.
In the Alpha’s arms, Ye Youyi lowered her head, wrapping her arms around Wen Tang’s neck. Whether by accident or design, her warm fingertips brushed against the suppression patch on the back of Wen Tang’s neck.
A sharp physiological reaction made Wen Tang’s breath hitch. Red tinged her eyes and lips as she struggled to keep control.
In a hoarse voice, she muttered, “Could you loosen your hold a little?” The pressure on her gland was unbearable.
Ye Youyi lifted her gaze.
The tension in Wen Tang’s jawline amused her, though her own face burned scarlet. In a delicate voice, she whispered, “I’m sorry, am I holding too tightly?” Before Wen Tang could answer, she lowered her head again, her tone shy. “This is the first time I’ve ever been held like this by an Alpha. I didn’t realize. I’m sorry.”
How could Wen Tang be angry? Quickening her steps, she carried her to the car and carefully placed her in the passenger seat. Only when the lingering scent dispersed did she finally let out a breath.
Once behind the wheel, hands gripping the steering wheel, the last traces of redness faded from her cheeks. She started the car, then stole a swift glance at her. “Where do you live?”
Ye Youyi, watching her rigidly straight posture, reported the address with a trace of amusement in her eyes.
The car glided smoothly down the road. Neither of them spoke again.
Wen Tang felt she was acting a little strange today—actually blushing in front of Ye Youyi.
She knew that in this novel’s world they were of different genders, yet her twenty-six years of real life made it impossible for her to truly see Ye Youyi as “another kind” of girl.
Besides, she had never liked anyone before, but she was pretty sure she was straight, wasn’t she?
So how could she possibly be blushing and flustered just because Ye Youyi had accidentally brushed against her chest?
The system, clearly picking up on her thoughts, let out a mocking chuckle. “You think you’re straight? But you’ve never liked a man before either! And look at you—an Omega teases you a little and you’re already this shy. Forget keeping up the original host’s cold indifference, you don’t even have the basic dominance of a normal Alpha!”
Wen Tang rolled her eyes inwardly. “I was never much of an Alpha to begin with!” After venting, she remembered the system’s earlier warning and asked, “Didn’t you just say I shouldn’t get too close to Ye Youyi? And now you’re complaining that I don’t act Alpha enough?”
The system snorted arrogantly. “You’re mine now. The way you acted just now was an embarrassment to me. Remember this—no matter what, never lose your Alpha aura! And the original host was supposed to be aloof and cold, can you at least”
Wen Tang automatically tuned out the nagging that followed. Alpha aura? What on earth is that supposed to be?
Wanting nothing more than to live a laid-back life, she tugged at the corner of her lips in a half-hearted smile and gave a perfunctory response.
Ye Youyi, unaware of Wen Tang’s mental tug-of-war, stole a few discreet glances at her. The Alpha’s straight nose, the way her lips were pressed together, and the memory of her quietly enduring the earlier feverish heat—it was rather amusing.
How long had it been since she last encountered such a pure and gullible Alpha?
Casually, Ye Youyi thought that while Wen Tang had no real value to her, she was at least entertaining enough to help pass the time.
Inside the car, both women nursed their own private thoughts, neither aware of what the other was thinking.
A ringtone broke the silence. Wen Tang glanced at Ye Youyi, who picked up her phone and answered after tapping the screen.
With her sharp Alpha hearing, Wen Tang easily recognized the voice on the line—it was the assistant who had picked Ye Youyi up that night.
Two minutes later, Ye Youyi ended the call, her brows knitting in faint distress.
Although Wen Tang had heard every word, she feigned ignorance. Of course, the system immediately chimed in: “Hey, poor Ye Youyi has no one to look after her. Why don’t you take care of her?”
Wen Tang was startled. “Did you really just say that? Aren’t you the one who told me to keep my distance from her, to help her secretly but never get close? I clearly remember you saying that!”
The system went silent for a beat, then sighed. “You just said it yourself—I said that before. Can’t things change? If you hadn’t ignored my warnings and kept breaking character in front of Ye Youyi, we wouldn’t be in this situation. The plot demands you stick to the original personality!”
Wen Tang grew serious. “What are you saying?”
“I’m saying that with Ye Youyi, you can show a bit more of your real self. But don’t get too excited—you still need to maintain the original host’s persona in front of everyone else. No more slip-ups, understood?”
Wen Tang’s heart lifted. She hadn’t expected to be allowed to act as herself, even if only in front of Ye Youyi. Surely the system had fought for this concession on her behalf.
“Thanks, idiot. Even if it’s just in front of Ye Youyi, I’m satisfied!”
The system huffed in a mix of pride and annoyance. “Enough chatter. Go take care of her already.”
After that little negotiation, Wen Tang found herself smiling more easily. She glanced at Ye Youyi and, pretending casualness, asked, “What’s wrong? Something happened?”
Ye Youyi’s fingers tightened around her phone as her gaze dropped to her injured knee. Her soft voice carried a trace of embarrassment. “My assistant needs to go home for a few days.”
She hadn’t expected Qiu Qiu to suddenly leave, probably due to some family issue. Thinking of her leg injury, the days ahead seemed daunting, and real worry flickered across her face.
Following her gaze, Wen Tang caught sight of her knee. Remembering how unsteady she had been earlier, she carefully suggested, “Besides your assistant, is there anyone else who can look after you? If not, for the sake of being classmates, I could take care of you. What do you think?”
Ye Youyi looked at her in surprise.
Fearing her words might have startled her, Wen Tang lowered her voice in explanation. “Since your injury is on your leg, many things will be inconvenient for you. You’ll need someone’s help.” Then, realizing Ye Youyi might still have family around, she added, “What about your family? If they can take care of you, that would be even better.”
The mention of family froze Ye Youyi’s expression for a moment. She quickly composed herself and turned her face away. “My mother is busy. I don’t want to trouble her. And it’s just a small injury—I can manage on my own.”
Wen Tang opened her mouth to insist, but Ye Youyi’s phone rang again, cutting her off.
As soon as she answered, an angry woman’s voice exploded through the speaker: “What is wrong with you? Do you know what time it is? You stood me up! Do you even want the role of the third female lead in Moon Spirit Chronicle anymore?”
Ye Youyi’s face went pale. She clutched the phone tightly, holding back tears. “Sister Min, I didn’t mean to”
Before she could finish, Zhou Min sneered. “I don’t care whether it was intentional or not. Since you clearly don’t take this seriously, forget about the audition for Moon Spirit Chronicle. It’s not like you had much chance of landing the role anyway!”
With that, she hung up.
The dull beep-beep-beep echoed in Ye Youyi’s ear. She couldn’t hold back anymore—one clear tear slid from the corner of her eye and traced down her cheek.
Out of the corner of her eye, Wen Tang saw her quietly weeping. She pursed her lips, pulled the car over to the roadside, and handed her a tissue. “What’s wrong?”
But the girl seemed too lost in her sorrow to take it.
Wen Tang sighed, unbuckled her seatbelt, and leaned toward her. She gently dabbed away the tears on Ye Youyi’s face with the tissue.
The warmth of the Alpha’s fingertips seeped through the thin paper, making Ye Youyi pause before she let herself melt back into that fragile, helpless state. “This afternoon I went to see my agent, but something happened, and I missed the appointment. Sister Min was furious. She said I’m not allowed to audition for Moon Spirit Chronicle anymore.”
By the end, she wasn’t even sure why, but genuine grievance welled up in her chest, and more tears began to spill uncontrollably.
Her helplessness tugged at Wen Tang’s soft heart. Without thinking, she reached out and ruffled Ye Youyi’s hair, her voice gentle with comfort. “I know Moon Spirit Chronicle. I once accompanied my boss when she auditioned for the second female lead. I saw quite a few actors show up without appointments, and Director Li Zheng didn’t turn them away.”
“So even if your agent didn’t submit your name beforehand, you can still go when the auditions start. Who knows? There might be even more walk-ins that day.”
