Reborn a Scummy Alpha, Happily Ever After with the Movie Queen - Chapter 55
A splitting headache pressed down on Wen Tang as she rubbed her forehead and wrapped herself in a blanket before heading into the bathroom.
She tilted her head back under the warm stream of water, her mind spinning with thoughts of what misdeed she might have committed the night before.
Hesitantly, she activated the system. “Er Que, do you know what happened last night?”
The system sounded a bit surprised—was Wen Tang actually afraid?
“I don’t know! Did something major happen last night?”
Since Wen Tang had blocked it last night, the system had entered a dormant state, only reactivating when she summoned it just now. It had no record of the previous night at all.
Oddly enough, hearing Er Que admit it didn’t know anything made Wen Tang feel a faint sense of relief.
She blocked the system again and let the warm water wash over her face. The moderate heat gradually cleared her head.
She could vaguely remember getting drunk at the bar and heading toward the restroom, only to be stopped by an omega. Not wanting that person to touch her, she had struggled desperately to break free.
But, in the end, she couldn’t remember whether she had successfully freed herself from that omega.
Which meant, it was very likely that last night she had ended up in this hotel with that omega.
The thought made Wen Tang quickly rub her face and take a deep breath, deciding not to think about it any further.
After all, the omega had already left. She probably didn’t want any further entanglement with her.
Wrapped in a towel, Wen Tang stepped out of the bathroom and frowned at the messy bed.
This was a place full of trouble—she should leave as soon as possible.
Sitting on the bed to change, her hand brushed against another towel draped across the foot of the bed.
A faint scent of milk wafted up. Instinctively, Wen Tang picked up the towel and sniffed it.
Could it really be the scent of milk?
The towel must have been used by the omega last night, which was why it carried a trace of her scent.
But, was that omega’s pheromone naturally like this?
Moreover, Wen Tang felt that the scent was strangely familiar.
She shook her head, trying to clear the fog in her mind.
Ye Youyi appearing here? That was impossible.
So, last night’s omega couldn’t have been her.
She slowly dressed, picked up her phone, and left the hotel, her mood heavy.
After several hours of flying, Wen Tang finally arrived in the capital at noon.
She didn’t waste any time. She returned to the Wen residence, took a shower, changed into fresh clothes, and went to visit Grandmother Wen.
The old woman’s health had been declining, her energy and spirit noticeably diminished.
“Grandma has already informed the Ning family. You can go now.”
Seeing that Grandmother Wen didn’t look displeased, Wen Tang realized that her departure the previous night had probably gone unnoticed by the old lady. Likely, Aunt Mei had kept it hidden for her.
The thought passed quickly. Wen Tang didn’t linger with her grandmother and set off for the Ning residence.
Since the marriage alliance had basically been settled, and Wen Tang had already visited the Nings twice, the family members—growing more pleased with her—were waiting in the living room to greet her.
When a tall alpha appeared at the door, Madam Ning smiled and waved. “Xiao Tang, come over!”
Wen Tang’s expression remained calm as she sat on the sofa Madam Ning indicated.
The alpha before her exuded natural poise and restraint, giving no impression of a playboy type.
The Ning patriarch nodded approvingly, adopting the authoritative tone of a father-in-law. “Madam Wen has already discussed with us. You and Xiao Xu will get engaged first. From then on, we’ll be one family. If you want to come to our house, there’s no need to notify anyone in advance.”
Wen Tang automatically blocked out the latter part of his words.
In her mind, only one word remained: engagement.
It seemed she needed to act quickly on what came next.
After some small talk, Wen Tang took her leave and was escorted by a servant to the familiar courtyard outside.
This time, she felt no hesitation and went straight upstairs.
Knocking on the door, she received no answer. She tried again. “Miss Ning, it’s Wen Tang.”
After a moment, Ning Xu’s quiet voice came from inside. “Open the door yourself.”
Turning the doorknob, Wen Tang entered.
The omega wasn’t sitting on the bed as before, but standing by the window.
Her frail silhouette seemed almost ready to be carried away by the wind.
Wen Tang walked in under the watchful eyes of the servant and closed the door behind her.
Seeing the servant’s smiling eyes, she gave a silent, mocking smile of her own.
Good. Let the Ning family think that she was accepting of this engagement—and maybe even looking forward to it.
After the servant quietly left, Wen Tang knew the room was empty.
She approached the window and stopped about a meter away from Ning Xu.
Seeing Ning Xu staring blankly out at the view, she followed her gaze.
Below lay the Ning family’s rear garden.
In early summer, countless flowers were already in full bloom, their petals vibrant and dripping with life. Amid the lush branches and leaves, under the bright sunlight, the scene was breathtaking, attracting countless butterflies that danced gracefully among the blossoms. It was truly a landscape that invited admiration and longing.
After staring for a long moment, Ning Xu finally noticed someone standing beside her. She slowly turned her head and saw Wen Tang. Her brow, already full of worry, furrowed sharply. “What are you doing here?”
“Obviously to avoid being seen by others,” Wen Tang replied.
She knew that Ning Xu was not fond of her at the moment, so she kept it brief. “I know you don’t want an arranged marriage with me, but since your family is controlling Cheng Ye, you have no choice but to follow their plan.”
At the mention of Cheng Ye’s name, a spark of light appeared in Ning Xu’s eyes, and she looked visibly excited. “You, you know about Ah Ye?”
Her eyes were filled with tension—afraid that Wen Tang might also use Cheng Ye to threaten her.
Wen Tang raised a hand, signaling her to calm down. “I won’t do anything to him. Don’t worry.”
As Ning Xu gradually steadied herself, Wen Tang explained the purpose of her visit. “Like you, I don’t want an arranged marriage either. But my family forced me into it, so I had no choice but to pretend to agree.”
“You don’t want it either?” Ning Xu recalled Wen Tang’s previous cold indifference and realized that they were, in fact, kindred spirits, sharing the same plight.
“Then why involve Cheng Ye?”
Wen Tang briefly explained that she had already rescued Cheng Ye. “He’s no longer in your family’s hands. That’s why I need your help to stage a performance—to cancel the marriage between Wen and Ning.”
Cheng Ye is in Wen Tang’s hands now?
Ning Xu’s emotions were complicated.
“What do you want me to do?” she asked.
Wen Tang noticed the fear and disdain flickering in Ning Xu’s eyes, and she smiled. “I’m not threatening you with Cheng Ye. I’ve already rescued him and sent a doctor to treat him. Surely, you’ll do something to help me in return?”
Wen Tang didn’t like using such things to claim credit, to force Ning Xu to do her a favor. But she had no choice. Only by having Ning Xu and Cheng Ye participate in this ruse could she fully cancel the marriage, appearing as the weaker party in front of Grandmother Wen without raising suspicion.
“Then, what exactly do you need me to do?”
Seeing the doubt in Ning Xu’s eyes fade, Wen Tang slowly stepped closer and quietly outlined her plan.
About half an hour later, Wen Tang emerged from Ning Xu’s room.
She bid farewell to the Ning family, who were beaming with satisfaction, and left the old residence.
Thankfully, everything had gone smoothly.
It seemed Ning Xu and Cheng Ye truly loved each other—so much so that they even agreed to her unreasonable request.
The dark cloud over Wen Tang’s heart lifted, and for the first time in a long while, she felt joy.
Yet, thinking of last night still made her feel a little embarrassed. Even if she had annulled the marriage, she didn’t feel she had the courage to reconcile with Ye Youyi.
At this thought, her earlier excitement subsided. She pressed the steering wheel lightly, stepped on the accelerator, and drove back to the Wen family residence.
After more than half a month of discussions, the Wen and Ning families finally confirmed the arranged marriage.
The engagement was set for July 3rd, to be held at a grand hotel owned by the Wen family.
With the invitations sent out, people in the upper social circles learned about the upcoming union between the two families.
But the matter didn’t spark much gossip. What caught everyone’s attention was the Wen family’s eldest daughter, Wen Tang.
Rumor had it that due to health issues, she had been raised in the countryside and only returned to the Wen household after her condition improved.
Most people paid little attention to this, because even if Wen Tang wasn’t the family’s legitimate heir, she was the only Alpha in the Wen family and likely to become its future leader. That, after all, was what truly mattered.
Everyone who received an invitation didn’t decline and confirmed they would attend in full dress.
While the Wen–Ning engagement had been settled, Ye Youyi remained unaware—until Wang Lin personally came to inform her.
Just as Ye Youyi had finished her makeup and was preparing for filming, a hurried Wang Lin called out, “Xiao Ye, are you heading to shoot?”
Ye Youyi and Qiu Qiu both turned. “Senior Wang Lin? What brings you to Qinghe?”
Wang Lin smiled. “Just came to see how your filming is going. It should be nearing the finale by now, right? You’re wrapping up at the end of this month?”
This project wasn’t one Wang Lin had arranged for Ye Youyi, and he had other artists under his management, so he only had a rough idea of her schedule.
Ye Youyi nodded, smiling obediently. “Yes, we’ll finish filming by the end of June.”
The timing was quite fortunate. Once Ye Youyi wrapped up, she’d be returning to the capital—maybe she could even witness Wen Tang and Ning Xu’s engagement?
Thinking of this, Wang Lin rubbed his hands and gestured for Qiu Qiu to step aside.
Then he leaned in and shared the news: “Actually, I have another matter to tell you here in Qinghe.”
