Reborn a Scummy Alpha, Happily Ever After with the Movie Queen - Chapter 52
Bai Yuqing has gone mad?
Hearing the news, Ye Youyi’s lips twitched ever so slightly, though her face remained expressionless.
Just as Qiu Qiu had said—it was satisfying to vent some of her anger. Back when the Bai family was at its peak, Bai Yuqing, out of jealousy over Ye Youyi landing the role of Xian Ruo in Moon Spirit Chronicles, had even colluded with Zhou Min to bully her relentlessly!
Ye Youyi opened Weibo and scrolled carefully through the trending news. When she finally saw the words, “Bai Yuqing reportedly institutionalized after family bankruptcy,” the cloud of low spirits that had hung over her for days finally lifted a little.
She was still thinking perhaps fate had finally given her justice, letting that madwoman lose her mind completely—when her eyes caught the latest update at the bottom.
#Rising actress withdraws indefinitely from entertainment industry due to family issues.#
Instinctively, she clicked the post—and saw that it was news about Lin Shuang quitting the industry.
Lin Shuang, wasn’t she that little girl who had previously tried to seduce Wen Tang?
Wasn’t she the one whose role as the little tree spirit in Moon Spirit Chronicles had earned her a massive fan surge? Her career prospects were looking bright—so why announce her departure now?
Though puzzled, Ye Youyi didn’t dwell on it. She disliked Lin Shuang for having attempted to seduce Wen Tang, so she simply closed her phone.
Days passed, and online news evolved quickly. The report about Bai Yuqing going insane became like a pebble dropped into water: it splashed briefly and was soon forgotten.
Today marked the first rain of early summer. The drizzle tapped against leaves and pooled into small streams along the ground, soaking the hems of passing pedestrians.
Even the umbrellas overhead couldn’t block the downpour. The black-clad men standing outside the cars remained silently in position, waiting for orders from the young lady inside.
The car window rolled down, revealing Wen Tang’s delicate, sharp-featured face. Her fox-like eyes glanced briefly toward the old, stately residence beside them, and her thin lips parted slightly: “Where is he?”
Wen Qi, holding an umbrella, bowed slightly: “We’ve rescued him, but it seems the Ning family noticed.”
Earlier, Wen Qi had been tasked with tracking the whereabouts of the alpha in love with Miss Ning. After several days of investigation, they confirmed that the alpha had been hidden by the Ning family in this very residence.
However, since the second-in-command of the Ning family had been present here, they couldn’t act rashly. They observed quietly until they fully understood the situation.
Everything was ready—they were just waiting for the right moment.
Today, seizing the opportunity when the Ning family’s second-in-command was called back to the main residence, they swiftly took control of the place and rescued the alpha, who had been tortured nearly beyond recognition.
“Nothing to worry about.” Wen Tang raised her hand. “Take him to the Bai family’s old mansion. Find a reliable doctor to tend to him.”
After rolling the window up, she signaled the driver to move.
Although the Bai family had gone bankrupt, their old mansion remained unsold—either because of its remote location or perhaps because people considered the Bai family unlucky.
The Wen family, large and influential, now had Wen Tang officially back in their fold. With a simple notification, the mansion was quietly placed under her name.
It wasn’t that she liked the place; she just needed a secure location to handle matters like today’s rescue of Cheng Ye.
The most dangerous place was the safest place. Previously, Wen Xin had once bound Ye Youyi there—surely she hadn’t imagined she’d end up bringing someone else there too.
This way, neither the matriarch nor Wen Xin would be alerted, and no one would know Cheng Ye was under her care.
Cheng Ye had been located, but his injuries were severe. It was best to let him recover first. Other matters could be addressed later, when he was ready to plan with her.
By the time they returned to the Wen residence, the rain had eased.
She held an umbrella and walked toward the matriarch’s quarters.
The old lady’s health had been declining, yet she had slowly begun to grant Wen Tang some authority. Some of the senior executives were aware of her presence now, though most didn’t truly respect her—they merely acknowledged her position as the Wen family’s sole alpha.
Today, Wen Tang had been sent to attend a meeting on the matriarch’s orders. Afterwards, she could check in with Wen Qi to assess the situation, intervene if necessary to protect Cheng Ye, and even use the incident to gain leverage over the Ning family—potentially delaying or canceling the arranged marriage entirely.
The rescue had gone smoothly, though, so her direct involvement was unnecessary.
It would proceed as initially planned.
Entering the living room, she saw the matriarch by the floor-to-ceiling windows, watering the plants with a small spray bottle. Bent and tranquil, she looked every bit the kind, ordinary elder.
But Wen Tang knew it was all a façade.
“Grandma,” she greeted softly.
The matriarch looked up: “You’re back. How was it?”
Wen Tang knew she meant her first experience attending one of the Wen family’s major meetings.
Recalling the subtle obstructions from some executives, she didn’t hide anything. “Not great. Several branch executives didn’t respect me and made things difficult. Grandma, what do you think I should do?”
The old lady froze.
She had expected that, given Wen Tang’s temperament, she would quietly endure any difficulties herself.
But instead, she was acting like a wronged child and reporting it to her?
Actually, the matriarch had long known the senior executives’ personalities and had anticipated a few would attempt to assert dominance over Wen Tang. She had wanted to see how Wen Tang would handle it on her own, so she had offered no prior warning.
Now, seeing Wen Tang’s genuine discomfort, she realized the grievance wasn’t feigned.
Wen Tang was gradually taking over the family’s enterprises. There was no need for her to second-guess her or treat her with undue suspicion. After all, with Wen Tang’s temperament, did she not have the ability to handle things herself?
“Is it Elder Wu, Elder Liu, and Elder Qian who are dissatisfied with you?” Grandma Wen gestured for Wen Tang to sit across from her and began speaking simply. “Elder Wu and Elder Liu are relatively easy to deal with. As long as they see your abilities, they’ll change their opinion of you. Elder Qian, though, she has a bigger temper and she favors Xin Xin the most, so she has some issues with you. There’s nothing I can do about that—you’ll have to figure out on your own how to win her over.”
Wen Tang rolled her eyes subtly in her mind. The old lady had said a lot, but it was all nonsense!
It seemed Grandma Wen had no intention of stepping in personally to assert her authority for Wen Tang.
No matter. Since Grandma wasn’t willing to intervene, this gave Wen Tang free rein to handle the upper echelons of the Wen family herself.
Luckily, Wen Qi had already contacted a few of the senior members for her, so she wasn’t entirely fighting alone. With careful maneuvering, it was possible to gain solid control over the Wen family right under Grandma’s nose.
“So, everything depends on your abilities,” Grandma Wen concluded.
After speaking at length, she picked up her teacup and sipped, then noticed Wen Tang’s expression and asked, “Do you understand?”
Wen Tang nodded earnestly. “Yes, thank you, Grandma, for your guidance.”
After a few more words of rambling from Grandma, Wen Tang brought up the purpose of her visit. “Grandma, I’d like to visit Ning Xu tomorrow. Would that be all right?”
Grandma Wen looked pleasantly surprised. “Of course! Cancel your plans for tomorrow and go see Xiao Xu without worry.”
Wen Tang knew that as long as she suggested visiting Ning Xu, Grandma Wen would never object—and would even feel reassured.
With the visit arranged, Wen Tang left the living room and planned to inform the Ning family. Grandma would make all the arrangements for her.
By now, it was evening, and the rain had long since stopped.
Walking back to her small courtyard, Wen Tang admired the greenery and flowers washed fresh by the rain, glowing under the moonlight. She tilted her head and looked up at the full moon hanging in the sky.
A faint melancholy washed over her, and suddenly she missed Ye Youyi terribly.
What was she doing now? Was filming exhausting? Had she eaten dinner? Had she seen the moon tonight? Was she thinking of her too?
The longing surged like a floodgate opening, unstoppable. Wen Tang pressed a hand to her racing heart, then abruptly turned and headed toward the garage.
Seeing her climb into the car, the system blinked, bewildered. “Where are you going?”
“I want to see her.”
Who ‘she’ was went without saying.
For the first time, the system saw Wen Tang acting with such reckless determination.
Tomorrow she still had plans to visit Ning Xu—so why was she heading to Qinghe Min Country now? Could this still be the calm, composed Wen Tang?
“Hey, hey! You have important things tomorrow! What if you can’t get back in time?” the system warned. “Besides, Ye Youyi is filming. Maybe she doesn’t even want to see you?”
Doesn’t want to see me?
Wen Tang gripped the steering wheel, pressed her thin lips together, and stepped on the accelerator, driving out of the Wen estate.
Even if Ye Youyi didn’t want to see her, it didn’t matter. Just catching a glimpse from afar would be enough.
“Sigh,” the system sighed silently, watching Wen Tang pursue her without hesitation.
It knew that these past days, Wen Tang had been keeping herself busy to distract from her thoughts, keeping her mind off Ye Youyi. Yet the longing she had suppressed for so long had finally broken through.
Hopefully, she understood how important tomorrow’s visit was and wouldn’t be so captivated by Ye Youyi that she missed it. Probably not, right?
At the airport, Wen Tang bought the nearest available ticket. Ticket in hand, she stared at the departure board until it was time to check in. Then, long legs striding, she moved forward.
After several hours of flying, she finally arrived in Qinghe Min Country before midnight.
Standing under the moonlight, she suddenly wondered if coming to Qinghe was really the right thing to do.
