Reborn a Scummy Alpha, Happily Ever After with the Movie Queen - Chapter 41
Ye Youyi had been lost in thought the entire way.
She hadn’t expected that, in her mother’s eyes, she was that kind of person.
She admitted that she sometimes got close to certain Alphas to gain resources—but she had never shamelessly seduced a director just to climb the ladder.
Ye Youyi let out a bitter, mocking laugh. So even after the online clarifications, her mother still didn’t believe her, did she?
Even after getting off the plane, a heavy sense of sadness lingered. Since her father had passed away and her mother had injured her leg, happiness seemed to drift farther and farther away.
Sitting in the taxi, she watched the streetlights pass by, illuminating the gently falling snow. People along the roadside laughed and chatted warmly.
She felt as if none of that joy belonged to her.
Exactly at midnight, fireworks suddenly blossomed over a nearby square, scattering sparks like stars across the night sky. Everything beautiful seemed almost within reach.
Instinctively, Ye Youyi called out, “Stop here.” The taxi pulled over smoothly at the roadside.
Standing there with her luggage, she suddenly remembered—it was her birthday today.
In the distance, couples stood close together, gazing at the fireworks. Children played mischievously with their new toys, accompanied by attentive adults.
A deep loneliness spread through Ye Youyi. She walked to a flowerbed and sat down, staring blankly at the lively, festive scenes around her.
“Beep, beep, beep.”
The ringtone of her phone broke her thoughts. She picked it up—it was Wen Tang calling.
She pressed the answer button. “Hello?”
“Happy birthday!” Wen Tang’s cheerful voice came through.
Ye Youyi couldn’t hold back any longer; her eyes welled up with tears.
“How, how did you know it’s my birthday?” she asked, biting her lip to keep her voice steady, refusing to let even a hint of sob escape.
Wen Tang heard the quiet tremor in her voice. Somehow, it sounded like she was crying.
“I asked He Yiqiu,” Wen Tang explained. “She told me.” She remembered He Yiqiu mentioning that Ye Youyi’s mother hadn’t treated her very well.
Wen Tang wondered if Ye Youyi had gotten upset after returning home.
The girl remained silent for a long moment. Wen Tang, concerned, asked, “Where are you now? Are you back in the Capital?”
The gentle Alpha’s voice wrapped around Ye Youyi’s heart, smoothing the jagged edges of her disappointment.
“Yes,” Ye Youyi replied softly.
Then, looking around and recognizing her location, she told Wen Tang where she was.
“Okay, I’ll be right there. Just wait for me,” Wen Tang said, slipping into the coat on the sofa, grabbing her keys, and heading out at full speed.
The New Year festivities hadn’t ended yet, and the streets were brimming with joy.
Wen Tang weaved through the traffic, pressing the gas pedal.
At a red light, she stopped the car. Her phone rang immediately. Thinking it was Ye Youyi, she answered—but the voice on the other end was Wen Qi’s.
“What’s wrong?”
Wen Qi hesitated. Was it her imagination, or did the young lady’s voice carry a hint of disappointment?
She shook her head, pushing aside the odd thought. “I’m sorry, Young Lady. Bai Yuqing has been taken.”
Originally, after Bai Yuqing was taken by their people, Wen Qi had kept her at the Bai family’s old residence so that the young lady could see the Bai family’s decline with her own eyes. After all, the most dangerous place is often the safest.
Anyone searching for Bai Yuqing wouldn’t suspect she was actually in their home.
Wen Qi had been confident in keeping Bai Yuqing safe, yet tonight, her subordinates reported that Bai Yuqing had gone missing right under their noses.
She didn’t understand—who would bother rescuing the fallen daughter of the Bai family?
Since the matter was serious, Wen Qi had immediately reported it to the young lady.
But at that moment, Wen Tang only wanted to be with Ye Youyi. She didn’t think a minor figure like Bai Yuqing could pose any real threat. Without a wrinkle of worry, she said, “If she left on her own, there’s no need to follow up.”
Suddenly recalling something, Wen Tang asked, “When your people were watching her, did anyone reveal their identities?”
“Of course not,” Wen Qi confirmed. “Bai Yuqing has no idea who had her.”
“Good. She doesn’t need to know. Withdraw the people left at the Bai residence.”
With that settled, Wen Tang hung up and drove toward Ye Youyi.
After some time, she arrived. Wen Tang parked and strode across the square.
The fireworks overhead outshone the stars, but she had no mind to look up. Eyes on her phone, she scanned the crowd for the familiar figure.
“Hello?” Ye Youyi answered the call.
“Where are you?” Wen Tang asked, weaving through the crowd.
Ye Youyi glanced at a massive red balloon beside her. “I think I’m next to a red balloon arch.”
The early morning air was growing colder. Wen Tang rubbed her hands, still holding the phone, and finally spotted a red arch of balloons near a flowerbed.
Then, she saw a figure in a pale yellow down jacket with the hood up.
She strode forward, stopping behind her, and gently patted her on the shoulder.
Ye Youyi instinctively turned around—and there was the alpha, smiling softly, standing right beside her.
She immediately stood up and threw herself into Wen Tang’s embrace.
Wen Tang wrapped her tightly around the waist, then brushed her warm hands against her face. “What are you doing here? It’s so cold tonight.”
Ye Youyi buried her face deep in Wen Tang’s chest, inhaling the faint scent of pears from her, listening to her gentle voice—and suddenly, her nose tingled and tears began to flow uncontrollably.
After a long moment, Wen Tang still hadn’t heard any response from the girl. She rubbed the hat on her head and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Ye Youyi responded softly, “I’m a little cold, so I wanted you to hold me.”
Wen Tang looked down and smiled, pressing her chin against her head. “And how long do you want me to hold you?”
“As long as I want?”
“Mm, as long as you want.”
Gradually, Ye Youyi calmed her overwhelming emotions. She realized she wasn’t truly alone—she had Wen Tang, her care, her warmth, so why chase after someone else’s affection?
Having made up her mind, she slowly lifted her head, gazing at the alpha’s slender jaw, and said softly, “The flight today was exhausting, could you take me home to rest?”
Wen Tang looked down at her and immediately noticed her reddened eyes and the tears that hadn’t fully fallen yet.
She lifted her hand to gently wipe them away. “Okay, I’ll take you home.”
Seeing the smile bloom on the girl’s face, Wen Tang took her hand, grabbed her rolling suitcase, and led her back home.
Inside, Wen Tang switched on all the lights. The room was bright, every corner illuminated.
She set Ye Youyi’s suitcase down, came over, removed her hat, and helped her sit on the sofa. After warming her hands for a while, she looked into the girl’s dazed eyes and tilted her head. “Are you hungry?”
Ye Youyi snapped back to reality and nodded. She hadn’t eaten since leaving the small town for the capital.
The bright lights reflected off the alpha’s calm features. Wen Tang’s lips curved into a smile. “Then shall I cook something for you?”
Ye Youyi remembered her first time here and how she had been wary of Wen Tang’s cooking.
“Don’t worry. This time I promise it will be edible. Just wait here and watch Chef Wen whip up something delicious!” Wen Tang patted her cheek and walked toward the kitchen, smiling.
Her figure disappeared behind the door, then poked halfway back out. “No peeking!”
She closed the kitchen door, which only made Ye Youyi more curious. In an instant, all her sadness and frustration vanished. She just wanted to see what Wen Tang would cook.
She obediently sat on the sofa, eyes fixed unwaveringly on the kitchen, waiting quietly.
About half an hour later, the kitchen door opened. Wen Tang emerged, carrying a steaming bowl, exuding the homely scent of freshly cooked food.
The aroma made Ye Youyi’s stomach growl. She rubbed her empty belly and, feeling a little shy, walked over to Wen Tang.
Sitting at the table, she finally saw that it was a bowl of fragrant egg noodles.
On top was a heart-shaped fried egg. Ye Youyi giggled. “The heart is crooked!”
Wen Tang touched the back of her head and cleared her throat. “This is the best one I’ve made so far.” She pulled Ye Youyi to sit and pushed the bowl in front of her. “Eat quickly—this time it shouldn’t be hard to swallow.”
The noodles were light, the broth delicate, with a few leafy greens carefully placed on the side. Everything looked thoughtfully prepared.
Ye Youyi picked up her chopsticks and slowly took a bite.
Her eyes widened. After swallowing, she exclaimed, “How did you make this? It’s actually really good!”
Wen Tang grinned. “If it’s good, then eat quickly before it gets cold.”
Watching the girl take dainty bites, Wen Tang silently remembered the many awkward attempts she had practiced just to perfect this bowl.
Of course, this bowl of noodles wasn’t the only birthday gift for Ye Youyi. Wen Tang stood, went into the bedroom, and retrieved a gift she had prepared in advance, returning to the table.
After Ye Youyi finished her noodles, Wen Tang placed the gift box in front of her. “Your birthday present. Open it and see if you like it.”
Seeing the luxurious-looking box, Ye Youyi glanced up at the alpha’s expectant eyes, bit her lip, and slowly began to unwrap it.
