Reborn a Scummy Alpha, Happily Ever After with the Movie Queen - Chapter 30
The capital was already shrouded in twilight, the dusk deepening into night.
A cool evening breeze drifted past. Ye Youyi pulled her half-open coat tighter around herself and walked toward the side of the road.
The city’s nightlife was just beginning. Neon lights glowed everywhere; the streets buzzed with motion and color, people coming and going in a rush of glamour.
Ye Youyi tugged the brim of her hat lower, covering half her face. She had no choice—ever since countless behind-the-scenes photos from Moon Spirit Chronicle had leaked, coupled with the earlier scandal, her face had become hard to forget.
A black Volkswagen parked by the curb gave a short honk.
Ye Youyi tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear and walked briskly over.
As she approached, the passenger door opened automatically. Her eyes curved into a smile as she slipped inside.
A faint fragrance wafted through the car. Wen Tang turned her head toward Ye Youyi, who was taking off her hat. With light makeup on, her skin looked porcelain-smooth; her dewy eyes were as clear as a stream, her nose small and delicate, and her lips—glossed with a soft tint—looked plump and tender, irresistibly inviting.
For some reason, Wen Tang suddenly remembered that night when Ye Youyi had kissed her. Her mind had gone blank then; she hadn’t even dared to move, and now, recalling it, she still couldn’t quite describe how it had felt.
A small hand waved in front of her face. Wen Tang blinked back to the present, only to find Ye Youyi watching her with wide, curious eyes and a slightly parted mouth. Her soft, lilting voice broke the silence:
“What are you thinking about? Why aren’t we going yet?”
Fortunately, the cabin lights were off and dusk had settled in—Ye Youyi didn’t notice the faint blush creeping up Wen Tang’s cheeks.
Feigning composure, Wen Tang started the engine. Just as she turned the wheel to pull out, a warning chime sounded.
It was the seatbelt reminder. Wen Tang glanced over, about to speak, but Ye Youyi beat her to it, her eyes wide and innocent as she murmured, “My arms are still sore from holding them up while doing my makeup earlier, could you help me with my seatbelt?”
Wen Tang could clearly hear the teasing lilt in that soft, coquettish tone. Her grip tightened around the steering wheel. Under Ye Youyi’s pleading gaze, she finally unbuckled her own belt and leaned over.
The faint sweetness of Ye Youyi’s scent enveloped her. Wen Tang could see her long lashes tremble just beneath her line of sight. Biting her lip, she pulled the belt across Ye Youyi and fastened it quickly, the closeness filling the air with quiet tension.
When she leaned back into her seat, her face was calm again. She buckled herself in and steered into the flow of traffic.
The car moved smoothly down the road. Ye Youyi sneaked a glance at Wen Tang.
Under the streetlights, a faint pink still colored the Alpha’s otherwise serene face.
Ye Youyi bit back a laugh, lowering her head with a shy smile. Then, in a gentle voice, she said, “Remember—don’t eat too much later. I’ll take you somewhere after dinner.”
Wen Tang had already been warned of this mysterious plan earlier and had kept it in mind. Though curiosity gnawed at her, Ye Youyi had insisted it was a secret, so she hadn’t pressed for answers.
Now, she merely nodded seriously to show she remembered.
Inside Yi Pin Ju, a discreetly luxurious private dining room was already occupied by two people.
Dressed casually, Ning Wei carefully peeled a grape and held it to Wang Lin’s lips.
Casting another glance toward the door, he asked again, “Are you sure her name is really Wen Tang?”
Wang Lin nodded as he ate the grape. “She used to be Zuo Xiaojiao’s assistant. After Zuo got herself blacklisted, Wen Tang was reassigned to Lin Shuang. I didn’t know her well, but she was decent enough, so I looked out for her a little.”
Then Wang Lin shot him a look, half teasing. “Don’t tell me you’re jealous? Is that why you canceled tonight’s magazine shoot the moment you heard some Alpha invited me to dinner?”
Ning Wei popped another grape into his mouth before casually placing one between Wang Lin’s lips. “Jealous? Of what?”
Then he explained, “Remember I mentioned my little sister might be engaged to the heiress of the Wen Group? That heiress’s name is Wen Tang.”
In truth, very few people knew of this potential alliance—only his immediate family. But since Wang Lin was his Omega, he didn’t mind sharing.
That revelation, however, startled Wang Lin. “Wait—are you saying the Wen family’s heiress is also named Wen Tang?”
Was that possible? Surely it was just a coincidence—there were plenty of people with the surname Wen.
“Maybe it’s just the same name,” Ning Wei said. “I’ll sound her out later. You just act natural.”
As soon as he finished speaking, a knock came at the door.
A server’s polite voice followed: “Excuse me, Ms. Wen Tang has arrived.”
The door opened. The waiter led in two women before quietly leaving and closing the door behind them.
At the table, Wen Tang pulled out a chair for Ye Youyi. “Lin-ge, this is” she began, sitting beside her. When she lifted her gaze, her eyes met those of the Alpha man studying her from across the table.
Wang Lin was still reeling from Ning Wei’s earlier suspicion. Now, seeing the cool, poised woman before him, he couldn’t help but think—she carried herself very differently from before, with a quiet authority that hadn’t been there back then.
But remembering Ning Wei’s warning, he kept his expression composed and smiled faintly. “Let me introduce you. This is my boyfriend, Ning Wei.” He turned to Ye Youyi with a friendly grin. “And this must be the famous beauty, Ye
Youyi, the one Wen Tang keeps mentioning. You’re even prettier than you are on screen—it’s no wonder she’s so taken with you.”
Wen Tang raised a brow. Something about Wang Lin’s tone felt off.
Meanwhile, Ye Youyi’s mind caught on a single phrase—the one Wen Tang keeps mentioning.
So that’s how she’d introduced her?
Her cheeks flushed, but she smiled politely. “Thank you, Senior Wang, for the compliment.”
The atmosphere soon eased as they chatted and ordered.
After some small talk, Wang Lin finally asked, “So, you said before that you wanted Ye to transfer under my management. What exactly did you have in mind?”
Wen Tang had hinted at the idea earlier but hadn’t elaborated.
At first, Wang Lin thought it was unrealistic—Ye Youyi was signed to Huanyue Entertainment, not Xinghua. To move her over, they’d have to terminate her contract first, which could be costly and politically messy.
But now that Wen Tang might actually be the Wen Corporation’s heiress—and considering Xinghua Entertainment was a subsidiary of Wen Corp—if Wen Tang wanted Ye Youyi transferred, it might only take a word from her.
So, Wang Lin took the matter more seriously.
“To be honest, Lin-ge,” Wen Tang said with a faint smile, “Ye Youyi and I were high school classmates. We’re friends. I’ve seen how irresponsible her current agent is, so I thought it’d be better for her to switch companies—and managers.”
“As for the termination,” she added smoothly, “I’ll handle that myself.”
This was something the two of them had discussed beforehand, so Ye Youyi wasn’t surprised—though she listened closely now that the matter had become concrete.
Wang Lin nodded. “If you can settle the contract issue, bringing her into Xinghua wouldn’t be a bad move.”
Once that was settled, Ning Wei, who had been quiet the whole time, finally spoke. He raised his wineglass and gestured toward Wen Tang. “So—you’re Wen Tang, right?”
Wen Tang hadn’t expected to be addressed directly. Startled for a moment, she lifted her own glass and returned the toast. “That’s right. Nice to meet you.”
He’d been observing her for some time now. Her demeanor toward Ye Youyi, the subtle protectiveness—it was telling. Yet he couldn’t be sure: was this Wen Tang the same one his family had been discussing?
Wen Tang caught his intent look drifting toward Ye Youyi and frowned slightly.
“Tell me, Ms. Wen,” Ning Wei said suddenly, “do you have an Omega?”
Ye Youyi stiffened, fingers curling around her sleeve as she turned toward Wen Tang.
Of course she knew Wen Tang didn’t have an Omega—but why would Ning Wei ask something like that? He was the heir of the Ning family. Why such interest in Wen Tang?
Wen Tang set down her chopsticks. Catching the unease in Ye Youyi’s expression, she reached under the table and gently squeezed her hand, steadying her.
Then, looking back up at Ning Wei, she spoke evenly, “Not yet.”
Ning Wei noticed the unspoken closeness between the two and smiled faintly. “I happen to know someone else named Wen Tang,” he said casually. “I wonder—any relation to you?”
Ye Youyi froze.
The people Ning Wei “knew” were all either top celebrities or members of powerful families far beyond her reach.
Could it be?
She dared not finish the thought. She turned to look at Wen Tang, whose expression remained calm, unreadable.
Wen Tang smiled softly. “That, I wouldn’t know. I’m just a small-time assistant. I’ve never met Young Master Ning before.”
Her poised, unruffled tone—and the quiet refinement in her bearing—only deepened Ning Wei’s suspicion.
Was she really that Wen Tang? He still couldn’t be sure.
So, he dropped the subject, letting the conversation drift to safer topics.
