Reborn a Scummy Alpha, Happily Ever After with the Movie Queen - Chapter 28
The living room was dark, not a single light on.
Wen Tang walked through the shadowed space and stepped out onto the balcony.
The city glimmered below, alive with neon and nightlife. A cool breeze swept past, soft and calming, slowly smoothing out the restlessness in her chest.
The girl’s soft whisper still lingered by her ear, and her lips seemed to retain a trace of that sweet breath.
Unconsciously, she lifted her hand and brushed her fingertips against the corner of her mouth.
There was no fooling herself anymore, was there.
“I’m sorry.” she murmured—though even she couldn’t tell if she was apologizing to the body’s original owner or to Ye Youyi.
She rubbed her forehead and woke the system. “Hey, idiot, just now, Ye Youyi told me she likes me.”
“Didn’t she already like you before?” the system sneered. “What now? She finally tears down that paper-thin wall between you two, and you start hesitating? What kind of Alpha are you supposed to be?”
Wen Tang sighed softly. “You don’t understand.”
“Don’t understand?” The system clicked its tongue twice. “You two used to flirt under the guise of friendship. You could pretend not to know, and that made you feel safe. But now that she’s confessed, suddenly your moral compass kicks in? Feeling guilty, are we?”
Wen Tang was speechless. She couldn’t even deny it. Staring at the endless stream of cars below, she realized that her heart was no longer the same as before.
Just as the system said—before this, she could suppress the affection buried deep inside, pretend that the flutter in her chest meant nothing, and go on treating Ye Youyi as a friend.
She could justify everything she did for her—the care, the tenderness—as nothing more than fulfilling a “mission.”
But the moment she heard those words from Ye Youyi’s lips, her heart hadn’t stopped pounding since.
She knew exactly what it was—an unspoken confession answered, the quiet joy of realizing two hearts had found each other.
But, she wasn’t the original Wen Tang. She didn’t belong to this world.
Throughout her time here, she’d subconsciously ignored the difference in their genders. In her mind, she and Ye Youyi were both just girls.
In her world, love between two women wasn’t something people readily accepted. It had no legal protection, no warmth from society—only cold stares and whispered judgment. The path was never easy.
And more than that, she feared that everything she felt for Ye Youyi might only be the remnants of the original consciousness—a ghost of longing that refused to fade.
She had never been in love before, let alone learned how to care for someone so soft and delicate. To protect her, love her, and make her happy for a lifetime—she couldn’t even promise herself she was capable of that.
The system, realizing Wen Tang hadn’t closed their mental link, quietly listened in on all her thoughts.
It hadn’t expected her to harbor such fears.
“Honestly, you’re overthinking it,” it finally said, voice low. “You can’t accept being with Ye Youyi, and you’re afraid your feelings for her aren’t real. That’s what’s really going on, isn’t it?”
Wen Tang froze. She’d forgotten to block the damn thing. Before she could shut it out, the system rushed to speak again:
“Wait, wait! Don’t kick me out yet. Just answer me—am I wrong? You’re too deep in this to see clearly. Don’t you need a bystander’s opinion?”
Wen · hopelessly confused · Tang: “…”
Seeing she hadn’t muted it, the system grew even more animated. “From where I’m standing, all that overthinking is pointless.”
“How so?” she asked.
Adopting an almost sage-like tone, it said, “Didn’t Ye Youyi think you were asleep when she said those mushy things?”
“Mushy?” Wen Tang’s lips twitched. “What part of that was mushy?”
“Don’t change the subject!” the so-called sage snapped. “Think about it—she confessed only because she thought you couldn’t hear her. She was afraid of what you might say if she got rejected. So, here’s what you’ll do: tomorrow, pretend you didn’t hear a thing. Treat her like you always have. The rest will work itself out. You humans have that saying, right? ‘When the boat reaches the bridge, it’ll straighten itself out.’”
“Whatever happens between you two later—how your feelings grow, where things lead—that’s not something you need to figure out right now.”
It was the first time Wen Tang had ever heard advice like that. “So, when I don’t know what to do, I should just act as if I didn’t hear it? Let time sort everything out?”
The system chuckled. “Exactly. The most important thing is to cherish what you have now.”
Wen Tang thought over its words carefully. She wasn’t sure if this was the right approach, but she truly didn’t know how else to face Ye Youyi after that confession.
Closing her eyes, she sighed inwardly. She felt so cowardly—when faced with something she couldn’t handle, all she wanted to do was run.
The system, having long figured out its host’s temperament, sighed too. Wen Tang lacked the decisiveness an Alpha should have, but what could it do? She was its host, and it could only help her in its own way.
After a moment, it reminded her of something else. “Let’s set the love drama aside for now. What happened to Ye Youyi tonight is more pressing. Wen Qi should’ve already gathered a lot of information on the Bai Corporation. You decide how to handle it.”
Right. That was what mattered most now—making those who bullied Ye Youyi pay.
Wen Tang took out her phone and dialed Wen Qi’s number.
The line rang for a while before someone groggily picked up. “Miss Wen?”
Wen Qi’s voice was thick with sleep. She glanced at the clock—it was nearly two in the morning. She wanted to cry. Did her young miss ever sleep at night?
“How’s the investigation on the Bai Corporation going?” Wen Tang asked.
Wen Qi immediately snapped to attention. “I’ve got almost everything checked out. Does the young lady want the report right now?”
Wen Tang’s voice was cool and detached. “Release it tomorrow morning. While the Bai Corporation is in chaos, quietly move in and take over their subsidiaries. Take as much as we can.”
Wen Qi hesitated, then cautiously asked, “Should we keep this from the old madam?”
Wen Tang let out a low, mirthless laugh. “What do you think?”
“I understand.” Wen Qi was startled by the chill in her tone. She quickly straightened up and said, “Do you have any other instructions, Miss?”
Thinking of the bruises on Ye Youyi’s body, Wen Tang’s expression darkened. “Find out exactly what Bai Yuqing did to her last night. Tie her up—let her taste her own medicine.”
After giving her orders, Wen Tang hung up the phone.
She stood by the window for a moment, watching the city lights fade into silence. Then, turning on her heel, she walked back inside.
When she returned to the study—tidied and spotless—she glanced at the room across the hall, quietly closed the door, and chose to sleep in the study that night.
By noon the next day, sunlight poured warmly through the windows.
Ye Youyi was awakened by faint noises outside the room. Her lashes fluttered as she slowly opened her eyes. Seeing that the space beside her was empty, she rubbed them and sat up.
As her mind cleared, she reached out to touch the spot next to her pillow.
Cold.
Biting back the ache in her body, she slipped on her shoes and opened the door.
In the spacious living room, Wen Tang was just setting down the takeout boxes when she heard the sound of the door opening behind her. Turning slightly, she saw Ye Youyi coming out—her hair loose and slightly messy, a nightgown draped softly over her slender frame.
She hadn’t washed up yet; her smooth hair fell in gentle disarray. When she tucked a strand behind her ear, her pale face was fully revealed—delicate and luminous, framed by the soft glow of sunlight.
Wen Tang didn’t dare look for too long. Turning her gaze away, she finished arranging the tableware. “I was just about to wake you. Didn’t expect you to get up first.”
Ye Youyi walked over and glanced at the food on the table. She pulled out the chair Wen Tang had just set and sat down. Looking at the woman across from her, she bit lightly on her chopsticks and asked in a soft voice, “Did you get up very early today?”
Wen Tang’s hand paused briefly as she ladled soup, then her expression returned to calm. “Mm. I figured you’d sleep in since you don’t have any scenes to shoot today, so I got up early, cleaned the room, and ordered breakfast for us.”
Though the explanation sounded natural, Ye Youyi couldn’t quite bring herself to believe it.
Something about Wen Tang today felt off.
She picked at her food, stealing glances across the table. After a while, she finally realized what was wrong.
Wen Tang was acting distant. Too distant.
But why? Everything had been fine just yesterday.
Ye Youyi ate absentmindedly, thoughts circling back to last night. Then, all of a sudden, her cheeks flamed red. Could it be, when she kissed Wen Tang last night, Wen Tang had been awake? And she’d heard everything she said?
The thought made her heart pound.
She stretched out a foot and nudged Wen Tang lightly under the table, feigning casualness. “What time did you go to bed last night?”
The touch against her leg made Wen Tang freeze for an instant. Realizing it was Ye Youyi’s foot brushing against her, she blushed and quickly moved her leg back. Ye Youyi’s question, however, helped her suppress the fleeting warmth in her chest. Scooping up a spoonful of rice, she answered lightly, “Can’t remember. I lay down and must’ve fallen asleep soon after.”
After that, neither of them mentioned last night again. They ate in silence, the once-playful air between them quietly dissipating.
The food lost its flavor for Ye Youyi. After only a few bites, she put down her chopsticks. “I’m done.”
Wen Tang looked up, frowning at the half-full bowl. “You’re already so thin. Why not eat a little more?”
The girl turned her head away and murmured, “I’m full.”
Wen Tang was about to say more when Ye Youyi’s phone buzzed on the table.
“Qiu Qiu?” Ye Youyi answered, getting up to sit on the sofa.
“Xiao Ye, guess what the explosive news of the day is?” Qiu Qiu’s voice was filled with glee. After learning last night that Bai Yuqing had kidnapped Ye Youyi, she’d been furious, ready to storm over herself. But before she could even dream of revenge, the morning headlines had handed her poetic justice—Bai Corporation in crisis, and the Bai family’s eldest daughter missing.
It was downright delightful.
“You have to check it out! The Bai family’s in deep trouble—and that Bai Yuqing who bullied you? She’s gone missing too! Hahaha, I can’t stop laughing! Go see for yourself.”
