Reborn a Scummy Alpha, Happily Ever After with the Movie Queen - Chapter 27
Time ticked by, second after second, until the sound of splashing water finally came to a stop.
“Wen Tang, you didn’t bring me any clean clothes,” came a soft, delicate voice from inside the bathroom.
Wen Tang smacked her forehead—she had actually forgotten about that.
“Alright, I’ll bring them right away.”
She was just about to head to the bedroom when the girl quickly added, “Can you not bring long sleeves and pants? It’s cool tonight, but it still feels too hot to wear those.”
Her tone carried a hint of grievance. Wen Tang suddenly recalled the look Ye Youyi had given her the last time—half sulky, half resentful—when she’d been forced to wear long sleeves and pants.
“Got it,” Wen Tang said, heading into the room to search through the wardrobe.
Unfortunately, the original Wen Tang had never liked wearing shorts. So, despite the wardrobe being full of clothes, there wasn’t a single pair of short pants suitable for Ye Youyi.
After a moment’s hesitation, her gaze shifted toward the row of nightgowns.
Most of them were made of thin, barely-there fabric. Wen Tang had to pull them out one by one before finally finding a light lavender one with slightly more coverage. The straps were about a finger wide—better than the ones that were practically ribbons—and the neckline wasn’t too low. It looked decent enough.
Then she glanced down at the hem and frowned. It seemed a bit short—on her, it would barely cover her hips. Ye Youyi was a head shorter, so on her, it would probably reach mid-thigh.
She hesitated again.
“Wen Tang, did you find it yet?” came Ye Youyi’s voice from inside.
Faced with the rest of the lacy, revealing options, Wen Tang decided not to think any further. She grabbed the lavender gown and went to knock on the bathroom door.
Turning her head aside, she held the dress out. A moment later, she felt it being taken from her, and she quickly shut the door again.
Before she could step away, a startled voice came from behind the door. “Is, is this the only one?”
Wen Tang thought Ye Youyi was shy about how revealing it might be and assumed she was asking if there were other choices.
“This one’s already the most conservative. The others, aren’t really suitable.” She rubbed the bridge of her nose, feeling oddly self-conscious.
But Ye Youyi’s next words made her stiffen all over, as though her entire body had caught fire.
“I mean, you didn’t bring me any, um, under—underthings.” The girl’s voice was flustered, shy and stammering, and Wen Tang could practically imagine her blushing behind the door.
Wen Tang scratched the back of her head, completely at a loss. “I—I don’t know where you keep them.” She vaguely remembered Ye Youyi buying some online while she was staying here, but since Ye Youyi had moved into her own room, Wen Tang hadn’t been inside much.
Finally, Ye Youyi quietly told her the location. Wen Tang went to fetch them.
Following her directions, she found a small box. When she opened it, her face instantly turned crimson. Taking a deep breath, she snatched up the item, holding it as though it was a live explosive, and hurried back to the bathroom.
She passed it through the small gap in the door, then clutched her wildly thumping heart as she retreated to the other side of the room.
A few moments later, the bathroom door opened. Ye Youyi stepped out, freshly bathed and glowing. Wen Tang instinctively looked over.
The dress fit perfectly. But, well, Wen Tang had never realized how good Ye Youyi’s figure was. The neckline framed her soft, full curves, and though Wen Tang quickly averted her eyes, she caught a glimpse of those long, slender legs gleaming pale under the lamplight—smooth as milk, luminous and dazzling.
The faint marks of blue and purple on her skin, however, made Wen Tang’s heart clench, cooling whatever stray thoughts had begun to stir.
She looked away at once.
But Ye Youyi came closer, gently taking hold of her wrist. Her lashes trembled as she whispered, “I’m still really scared. Tonight, can you stay with me?”
What?
Wen Tang froze, wondering if she’d heard wrong. She looked down at the girl.
Fresh from her shower, Ye Youyi’s skin was soft and dewy, her cheeks flushed pink. Wrapped in a towel, her damp hair made her face look even smaller and her features more delicate.
That pure, timid beauty bit her lip and repeated softly, “Wen Tang, can you stay with me?”
Wen Tang felt her composure slipping. She turned her head sharply. “You’re an Omega, I’m an Alpha—we should keep some distance.” It was a warning as much for herself as for Ye Youyi.
“But I’m scared to be alone.” Ye Youyi’s voice trembled. She was clearly remembering what had happened at Silverlight.
The faint sob in her tone made Wen Tang’s heart twist painfully. Looking into her reddened eyes, she finally sighed and squeezed her hand.
“Alright. Dry your hair first. I’ll come after I wash up. Don’t worry—it won’t take long.”
As Wen Tang turned to leave, Ye Youyi bit her lip and followed her with her eyes.
Inside the bathroom, Wen Tang quickly undressed and rinsed off. “System,” she muttered, knocking in her mind, “in this kind of situation—when an Omega’s been through trauma—is it okay for an Alpha to sleep beside her?”
The system sounded unimpressed. “You already said yes, and now you’re asking me? Are you serious?”
“Just answer me. No useless chatter.”
“Fine, fine. Special cases call for special handling. She’s terrified, her eyes are red, and she’s clinging to you like a frightened bunny. Keeping her company won’t kill you.” With that, the system went silent again.
So, that meant yes.
Wen Tang finished washing, dried off, and changed into her nightgown. When she opened the door, she nearly bumped into Ye Youyi.
The girl was leaning against the wall, watching her. For a split second, Wen Tang thought she saw admiration—no, awe—in her eyes.
Wen Tang glanced down at her own nightdress. Right, this was definitely more revealing than what she usually wore.
“Why aren’t you in the room?” she asked, clearing her throat as Ye Youyi approached. She reached out naturally to take her hand.
“I was scared.” Ye Youyi murmured, wrapping her other arm around Wen Tang’s.
Wen Tang had no choice but to feign calm as she led her back into the bedroom. Once the door closed behind them, her heart started pounding all over again.
She guided Ye Youyi to sit on the bed. “You sleep on that side, I’ll take this one,” she said evenly, then got up to fetch another blanket. “I’ll grab mine. You go ahead and dry your hair.”
She opened the top of the wardrobe and took out a thin quilt, laying it neatly on her side of the bed.
When she turned around, Ye Youyi was sitting quietly, drying her hair, looking soft and obedient.
Wen Tang sat down beside her, leaned against the headboard, and picked up a book from the nightstand, pretending to read.
After a while, the sound of the hairdryer stopped. Footsteps padded softly toward her, and the mattress dipped slightly as Ye Youyi climbed in.
Wen Tang’s hand twitched—the book almost slipped from her grasp. She set it aside and lay down, turning her head—only to meet Ye Youyi’s gaze head-on.
“Should I turn off the light?” she blurted, desperate to change the subject.
Ye Youyi glanced at the small distance between them, then inched closer—until only ten centimeters separated them. She reached out and gently caught Wen Tang’s wrist.
“Turn it off,” she murmured, satisfied.
Knowing she was afraid of the dark, Wen Tang switched off the main light and left the bedside lamp on.
The room dimmed, shadows thickening until only the faint amber glow remained. Under its cover, Wen Tang’s racing heart finally began to calm.
Within minutes, Ye Youyi’s breathing evened out. She must have fallen asleep.
Wen Tang turned slightly toward her. The faint light blurred her features, but even in shadow, she looked peaceful—no longer haunted by fear.
Propping her head on her arm, Wen Tang let her gaze soften. She reached out, brushing a few strands of hair from Ye Youyi’s face, and whispered, “Good night.”
With that quiet tenderness lingering in her chest, she drifted into sleep.
The room was still, time moving slow and gentle. The two figures under the soft light looked almost made for each other.
Wen Tang was half-asleep when she felt the faintest movement beside her. Before she could open her eyes, a warm breath touched her lips.
Then came a feather-light, trembling brush of something soft.
Her mind went blank. The sweetness of milk filled her senses, and the warmth on her lips spread through her whole body like a spark catching fire.
She didn’t dare move. She could only pretend to sleep.
The kiss lingered for a long while before Ye Youyi finally drew back. She looked at Wen Tang’s face, serene in slumber, and reached out. Her fingers traced down from between Wen Tang’s brows, along her nose, stopping on her lips.
“You’re too good to me,” she whispered, voice trembling. “So good that I feel like I can’t live without you.”
Her confession came out in the darkness, unguarded and fragile. “Wen Tang, I think I’ve started to fall for you.”
The sleeping Alpha gave no response, and perhaps that silence gave the girl courage.
She thought back to earlier that day—how Wen Tang had appeared before her like a guardian angel when she was bullied and humiliated. Her heart had been beating wildly ever since, and now, she could no longer lie to herself.
She lay back down and nestled close, resting her head in the crook of Wen Tang’s shoulder. Only then did she fall peacefully asleep.
Wen Tang, however, was wide awake. Her heart was still racing, her lips still tingled faintly, carrying the lingering sweetness of the Omega’s scent.
After a long, quiet sigh, she carefully shifted, slipped out of bed, and glanced back at the girl curled up under the blanket.
Then, with a soft look in her eyes, she turned and quietly left the room.
