Reborn a Scummy Alpha, Happily Ever After with the Movie Queen - Chapter 21.2
Madam Ning—Ning Xu’s Omega mother—wasn’t entirely satisfied with Wen Tang’s background. Still, she knew this Alpha was the Wen family’s future heir, and that alone was enough.
Ignoring Madam Ning’s assessing look, Wen Tang walked over to the old madam’s other side.
“Come, sit here,” the old madam said, patting the seat beside her. Then she turned to Madam Ning with a smile. “This is my eldest granddaughter. She just turned twenty this year.”
Madam Ning quickly offered praise. “As expected of your granddaughter—such poise, just like you in your younger years! I wonder which lucky Omega will get to marry her in the future.”
As she spoke, she gave Ning Xu’s wrist a subtle squeeze, signaling her to greet Wen Tang.
Ning Xu caught the hint and looked up shyly. “Hello” she said softly, then lowered her head again, blushing.
She didn’t dare stare for too long. This Alpha was too beautiful—so exactly her type that she feared if she kept looking, she might lose composure.
The old madam smiled, patting Ning Xu’s hand kindly. Then she turned to Wen Tang. “This is Miss Ning, Ning Xu. She’s a few months younger than you—think of her as your younger sister.”
Her gaze carried a warning beneath the warmth. Wen Tang caught it, and with a faint, mocking smile inside, gave Ning Xu a polite nod. “Hello.”
Her cool indifference stunned the room for a moment.
Especially Madam Ning. She had always considered Wen Tang’s lineage questionable, believing her unworthy of her daughter—but since Wen Tang was the Wen family’s only Alpha heir, she had chosen to overlook it.
Now, faced with such an attitude, it felt like her daughter wasn’t even being taken seriously. How infuriating!
Still, she restrained herself in front of the old madam.
The old madam cast Wen Tang a cold glance. “Ning family’s young lady is visiting for the first time. Take her around the estate.”
Ning Xu’s heart fluttered with anticipation as she looked at Wen Tang.
Madam Ning noticed her daughter’s lovestruck expression and sighed inwardly. Since the girl liked her, there was no point in stopping her.
The air conditioner seemed even colder now, and for a brief moment, the room fell silent.
Finally, Wen Tang straightened her sleeve, rose gracefully, and strode out of the room.
Suppressing her irritation, the old madam said gently to Ning Xu, “She’s used to being on her own, her temper’s a bit cold. Don’t take it to heart. That was her way of saying yes—go on, child.”
Ning Xu nodded obediently and followed her out.
Once the two younger women were gone, the tension in the room lifted slightly.
Madam Ning watched her daughter’s cheerful silhouette disappear into the courtyard before turning to the old madam and speaking bluntly. “What exactly does Miss Wen mean by that? Is she unwilling to associate with my daughter? My girl is simple-minded. If she doesn’t fancy her, perhaps we should call off this engagement.”
“How could that be?” The old madam’s voice was calm. “The engagement between our families was decided long ago. There won’t be any changes. Tang’s temperament is just like that—she’s cold to everyone, not just your daughter. In fact, once they’re married, with a personality like hers, you won’t have to worry about her fooling around outside, don’t you think?”
Madam Ning’s Alpha husband was notorious for his affairs, and she detested that kind of behavior. Hearing this, she found comfort in the old madam’s reasoning.
As long as Wen Tang treated her daughter decently and didn’t stray, she could accept the match.
Wen Tang didn’t know exactly what was being said inside, but she could guess—it was nothing more than a discussion about her and Ning Xu.
The thought made her all the more resistant.
The moonlight was soft, veiling the night in a silvery mist. Beside the quiet pool, the lights shimmered faintly across the rippling water, reflecting her tall, solitary figure.
Ning Xu followed behind, her gaze lingering on Wen Tang’s long legs and tall frame. The suit jacket draped loosely over her shoulders, her every step steady and poised—each one landing squarely on Ning Xu’s fluttering heart.
Thump, thump, thump—the rhythm of a young girl’s secret infatuation.
Noticing the footsteps behind her, Wen Tang stopped and turned. Under the moonlight, she looked at Ning Xu’s flushed face and said calmly, “It’s late. I’m going back to rest.”
Her cool, distant tone burst the pink bubbles in Ning Xu’s chest.
“B-but, Old Madam said you should, should keep me company.” Ning Xu stammered, her voice growing smaller under Wen Tang’s indifferent gaze.
Wen Tang bit back her frustration, ignored her, and turned to leave.
By the time the moon reached its peak, the farce of the night had finally come to an end.
In the main building’s study, lights still burned brightly. Hearing the servants’ report, the old madam’s brows furrowed.
“Afterward, Miss Wen and Miss Ning spoke for a while, then Miss Wen returned to her building and didn’t come out again,” the servant said.
The old madam’s face darkened. It seemed Wen Tang truly disliked the Ning girl. But her feelings didn’t matter—her duty was to obey and fulfill the family’s plans, to marry and produce the next generation of the Wen lineage.
After a moment of silence, the old madam ordered the servants to summon Wen Tang.
Meiru, her attendant, stepped forward quickly. “Please don’t be angry, Madam. The young lady is still young—she doesn’t yet understand that everything you do is for her own good.”
Glancing at her watch, she added gently, “It’s already past midnight. The young lady’s probably asleep. Perhaps it’s best not to call her over tonight.”
Seeing the old madam’s expression soften, she gestured for the servants to withdraw.
Soon, only the two of them remained in the study.
“The young lady’s just learned about the engagement,” Meiru said softly. “It’s natural for her to be upset. Please don’t let this strain your relationship as grandmother and granddaughter.”
“Grandmother and granddaughter?” The old madam shook her head slowly. “She wasn’t raised in this house—there’s no such bond between us. She’s been back three years, and look at her relationship with Xin Xin. She’s never tried to be close to her. That child—she’s never truly regarded herself as one of us.”
Her eyes sharpened. “She’s ambitious, defiant—I’ve always known that. Since she refuses to fall in line, there’s no need for me to be softhearted.”
Meiru hesitated, then asked, “You mean, Miss Xin Xin’s idea of assigning her to Xinghua Entertainment as an assistant?”
It all made sense now.
Miss Wen had been back for nearly three years, yet her identity remained unannounced to the public. She’d even been made to work as an assistant to a small-time celebrity. And at tonight’s banquet, the old madam had subtly instructed the other families not to make too much of her status.
Clearly, the old madam didn’t truly value Wen Tang.
Meiru finally understood—the old madam didn’t care about Wen Tang herself. What she wanted was the child Wen Tang would bear after marrying Ning Xu: a legitimate heir carrying the Wen family’s bloodline.
“You’ve been with me for years,” said Old Madam Wen with quiet authority. “It’s only natural for you to ask a few questions.” She paused, then nodded in approval at Meiru’s words. “Since Xin Xin has arranged for that girl to be her assistant, I’ll pretend I don’t know anything about it. Anyway, Xin Xin is angry right now—let her vent a little.”
Meiru murmured her agreement, but deep down she felt a flicker of injustice for Wen Tang. Still, what could she do? She was only a servant of the Wen family—utterly powerless.
That night, after changing out of her casual clothes, Wen Tang headed to the garage. She took a car and slipped out of the Wen estate under the cover of darkness.
She couldn’t remember the last time she’d felt this frustrated—so suffocated with anger. She, who had never even been in love before, was now being forced to marry a complete stranger? It was absurd—ridiculous beyond belief!
As Wen Tang drove toward the hotel where the film crew was staying, her system chimed softly, breaking the silence. “You don’t really have to be this upset, you know. It’s only your first meeting with Ning Xu. Who’s to say what might happen in the future?”
Then, after a pause, the system asked the question it had been holding back. “Also, are you sure you’re angry just because of Ning Xu? Or is it because once you’re engaged to her, you won’t be able to stay by Ye Youyi’s side as just a ‘friend’ anymore?”
A red light flashed. Wen Tang hit the brakes sharply.
Staring at the sky illuminated by the city’s glow, she gripped the steering wheel tightly. “This has nothing to do with Ye Youyi.”
The moment the light turned green, she pressed the accelerator, and the car shot forward like an arrow.
Back at the hotel, Wen Tang lay on the bed for a long time, unable to fall asleep. Her chest felt heavy and restless.
Eventually, she got up, grabbed the jacket draped over the sofa, and stepped outside.
The night breeze was cool, sweeping away the heat of the day. She walked aimlessly down the street, watching rows of streetlights flicker to life as her thoughts drifted far, far away.
In her previous world, she had been an orphan. Having never known familial warmth, she had secretly hoped for it when she arrived in this one. But the plot was real—and so was the Wen family’s cold indifference. She had long since stopped expecting anything, adopting the same detached attitude she had in her past life just to keep going.
Still, tonight, the pain refused to fade. Maybe it wasn’t her own grief, but the unwillingness of the body’s original owner—the ache of someone who had family yet still felt utterly alone.
After all, wasn’t betrayal from those who share your blood the kind that cuts the deepest?
It was no wonder, then, that the original Wen Tang, once she gained power, would exile Wen Xin and imprison Old Madam Wen.
There were no stars tonight—only a single bright moon hanging silently in the sky.
As Wen Tang walked, the anger in her heart slowly began to dissolve.
“Hmm? Wen Tang?”
A soft, familiar voice snapped her out of her thoughts. She looked up—it was Ye Youyi.
“It’s so late. What are you doing here?” Wen Tang asked, noting how much healthier Ye Youyi looked compared to that morning in the hospital.
