Reborn a Scummy Alpha, Happily Ever After with the Movie Queen - Chapter 18
At this point, Wen Tang hadn’t expected Lin Shuang to still be playing the innocent.
“You know perfectly well whether you did it on purpose or not.” Wen Tang’s tone was cold, her eyes filled with disgust for the scheming Omega before her.
Lin Shuang was terrified that if she didn’t clear away Wen Tang’s suspicion today, she might never have another chance to get close to her again.
Taking a deep breath, she jogged after Wen Tang. “I’m sorry, I really didn’t mean to. Please don’t leave, okay? You’re the only one I brought into the crew with me. If you go, what am I supposed to do all alone?”
Wen Tang almost wanted to snap back, “And what does that have to do with me?” But she stopped herself. Lin Shuang’s refusal to admit that she’d drugged her, coupled with this pitiful display of fear at being abandoned, only made Wen Tang more certain that her intentions were far from simple.
If Lin Shuang had been deliberately arranged by Wen Xin to stay by her side, then even if Wen Tang fired her as an assistant, Wen Xin would likely send someone else in her place.
Since that was the case, it was better to keep Lin Shuang where she could see her. At least a pawn in the open was easier to guard against than a rat hiding in the dark.
Her expression cooled as she looked at Lin Shuang, the corners of her lips curling faintly. “So, you’re saying what happened last night was just you trying to help me. Then why did you release your pheromones at the end? Do you not know what happens when an Alpha is affected by an Omega’s scent?”
Seeing Wen Tang finally bring up the topic of last night, Lin Shuang hurried to explain. “Your pheromones were too strong. I couldn’t resist. That’s the only reason, I didn’t mean to, I swear. Please forgive me, okay?”
Tears shimmered at the corners of her eyes, pitiful and fragile.
But Wen Tang felt nothing. If anything, she wanted to see how long Lin Shuang could keep up the act.
“I see.” Wen Tang finally withdrew the chill from her tone, her voice flat. “Just make sure something like this never happens again. Stay away from me next time.”
Hearing that, Lin Shuang understood that Wen Tang was letting the incident go—for now. Relief washed over her, but it was quickly followed by a flicker of unease.
After Ye Youyi helped her back to her room last night, what exactly had happened between them? And did Wen Tang know that her own pheromone flare-up was caused by the drug Lin Shuang had slipped her?
Judging by Wen Tang’s current attitude, she probably didn’t.
But, did something happen between Wen Tang and Ye Youyi last night?
Her gaze lingered on Wen Tang, torn between curiosity and calculation. She wanted to ask what Wen Tang’s relationship with Ye Youyi was, but then thought better of it. What did it matter? As long as she could seduce Wen Tang and complete her mission, nothing else was important.
“I understand. Thank you for forgiving me.” Lin Shuang smiled sweetly, her expression the picture of sincerity.
After dealing with that annoying pest, Wen Tang headed downstairs and made her way toward the set.
Before a wide expanse of green screen stood an elegant pavilion surrounded by drifting petals, the scene carefully arranged to evoke serene beauty.
On the high platform, Ye Youyi sat gracefully before a guqin, dressed in a moon-white robe embroidered with gold. Her slender fingers moved lightly over the strings, sending out a melody as ethereal as a mountain breeze.
The sight struck Wen Tang the moment she stepped onto the set—a breathtaking tableau.
She watched Ye Youyi and Xu Zhao, both fully immersed in their roles, then walked toward Qiu Qiu, who stood not far away taking photos with her phone.
They’d gotten to know each other a bit recently and exchanged a few words from time to time.
“Wasn’t Ye Youyi’s scene scheduled for tonight?” Wen Tang asked quietly as she approached. “Why is she filming now?” She had planned to talk things out with Ye Youyi, but clearly, the actress was already busy.
Qiu Qiu nearly jumped at the sudden voice beside her. She shifted away slightly. “Yu Mianyue took two days off, so today and tomorrow they’re mainly shooting Xu Zhao and Xiao Ye’s scenes.”
Seeing how Wen Tang’s gaze lingered on the pavilion above, Qiu Qiu frowned. “Why? You need something from Xiao Ye?”
Last night, after Ye Youyi left the dinner table, she hadn’t returned at all. If not for the message saying something had come up and that she’d be back today, Qiu Qiu would have gone looking for her.
Yet even after coming back this morning, Ye Youyi hadn’t explained what had delayed her—just rushed straight into filming.
Now, looking at the anxious Alpha before her, Qiu Qiu couldn’t shake the suspicion that Ye Youyi had spent last night with her.
The thought alone soured her expression as she eyed Wen Tang warily.
But Wen Tang, her eyes fixed on Ye Youyi, didn’t seem to notice. “Yes,” she said evenly, “I need to speak with her.”
Qiu Qiu pursed her lips and turned away with a huff.
Just then, the director called “Cut!” The actors instantly dropped out of character as assistants hurried forward.
Ye Youyi, who had barely slept the night before and had been summoned early to set, was already dizzy with exhaustion.
Lifting her long skirt, she rose slowly and followed Xu Zhao down from the pavilion.
Halfway down, a sudden wave of vertigo hit her. Her vision went dark—and she toppled forward.
The fall happened so fast that no one could react in time.
Gasps rippled through the crew. The pavilion stood ten meters high; if she fell from even halfway, the consequences could be serious!
Everyone was too far away to reach her.
Xu Zhao, hearing the commotion behind her, spun around to see Ye Youyi’s body pitching forward over the railing. She lunged and caught her wrist just in time.
Got her—but only barely. Ye Youyi was already half over the edge, and Xu Zhao’s arms trembled under her weight.
Just as she began to lose her grip, someone came running up beside her and grabbed Ye Youyi’s other hand.
Xu Zhao glanced over—it was Lin Shuang’s assistant.
“This isn’t going to work,” Wen Tang gritted out. “Let’s pull her up together.”
The crew below had started frantically looking for padding or cushions, but Wen Tang, seeing Ye Youyi’s pale face and half-shut eyes, knew she couldn’t wait that long. She nodded to Xu Zhao.
Leaning out dangerously, she gripped Ye Youyi’s other arm. “Ready—now!”
Together, the two Alphas heaved with all their strength, finally dragging Ye Youyi back to safety.
Ye Youyi’s face was ghost-white, her brows furrowed in pain, lips parted but unable to speak.
Xu Zhao started forward to support her, but the Alpha beside her was faster—Wen Tang had already scooped Ye Youyi into her arms and was striding down the steps.
Ye Youyi, still half-conscious, curled weakly against her chest. The faint pear scent of Wen Tang’s pheromones surrounded her, soothing the tightness in her chest.
Sensing the Omega burrowing closer, Wen Tang lowered her voice, gentle for once. “Don’t be afraid—it’s okay now.”
