Rebirth of the Vampire's Iceberg Hunter - Chapter 9
When someone entered the room, Chuanmei was lost in thought. Vampires rarely lose consciousness.
A faint, peculiar fragrance teased her senses, barely perceptible yet persistently present.
Then came the light, cheerful music that never stopped.
Chuanmei felt the others stiffly rise to their feet, their movements mechanical and devoid of awareness. She was certain they were completely unconscious.
Mimicking their movements, Chuanmei stood up as well. The group shuffled out of the dormitory, Chuanmei trailing behind. Beside her walked her deskmate, whom she couldn’t tell apart. Was it Little Six or Little Seven?
Chuanmei guessed they were heading to the building the girl had mentioned earlier.
She had never seen this building on campus before, leading her to believe it was a temporary nexus between the Vampire World and the Human World, hastily established for this purpose. These “nexuses” were essentially teleportation points.
When Chuanmei finally saw the unfamiliar structure, she knew her theory was correct. It was indeed a temporary nexus.
The children filed into the building one by one, their movements unnoticed by any outsiders.
As Chuanmei entered, she noticed another door directly opposite the entrance. A line of smaller boys, uniformly younger than the group she was with, filed in from the outside. These were the next batch of children destined for the same fate.
Chuanmei wanted to act, but she discovered that the children were already under the Blood Scent Curse.
A flash of insight struck her. She finally understood why these children had survived the radiation from the Blood Refinement Instrument. So that’s it! When she had investigated earlier, the curse had been nearly undetectable, which had left her completely baffled.
As she had explained before, the radiation from the Blood Refinement Instrument caused a critical protein deficiency in the blood. For ordinary humans, such a deficiency would be fatal. Chuanmei had been stumped as to how this problem had been circumvented. Now, sensing the Blood Scent Curse, she understood.
The Blood Scent Curse was a spell rarely used by vampires. Its rarity stemmed from its purpose: mutual destruction. The curse granted a massive, temporary boost to physical abilities, but once the effect wore off, the body’s functions would rapidly deteriorate. As such, it was only invoked as a last resort, and no one would ever cast it on another person, as the potential unleashed by the curse remained unpredictable.
She never imagined they would use such a method to cultivate blood.
When Chuanmei was a Vampire Prince, she had heard of blood cultivation, but at that time, no Vampire had ever successfully cultivated blood. Chuanmei had no interest in such methods, partly because she was a Pureblood Vampire and partly because she found any blood not filtered through hospital processes psychologically repulsive. The idea of using humans as vessels for blood cultivation was even more abhorrent.
Chuanmei shook her head. It seemed both the “normal” boy and the “abnormal” girl were victims of the Blood Scent Curse. The question remained: which specific potential had the curse unlocked?
Another question arose: where did these children come from? The scene resembled a production line. Was the Blessed Haven Orphanage the final step? If the Blood Scent Curse was the preceding step, what came before that? What was the origin of this process?
Lost in thought, Chuanmei suddenly found herself facing a massive Ice Pit.
Chuanmei’s expression twisted into a grimace. One by one, the children leaped into the pit, each freezing instantly upon contact with the ice. As a Pureblood Vampire, Chuanmei wouldn’t freeze even if she jumped in. Determined to understand what was happening, she followed suit.
Only after jumping down did Chuanmei realize this place was essentially a giant freezer, used for storing blood. The Blessed Haven Orphanage was truly the final step in their blood cultivation process.
Chuanmei watched as the children who had been eagerly discussing their future happiness just yesterday were frozen one by one. She felt a surge of bitter resentment.
At that moment, Chuanmei noticed her deskmate was missing. She looked up at the edge of the pit.
From her angle, she could only see a small, slender figure silhouetted against the light. It was her deskmate, standing motionless at the edge, his face obscured by the glare. Chuanmei couldn’t tell if he was looking at her, but he showed no sign of jumping down.
Could he still be normal?
Normal?!
Just as Chuanmei was about to leap up to investigate, a sudden change occurred.
A massive black shadow loomed behind the small figure. With a single glance, Chuanmei recognized it as an enormous bat.
Her heart jolted with alarm, but the next moment, her eyes widened in astonishment. Before the bat could even approach the boy, it was violently repelled.
Chuanmei’s eyes widened further. This was a characteristic of the Gong Clan’s Purebloods; Lower-tier Vampires were completely unable to approach them.
Gong Nan!
It was Gong Nan!
In the past century, the Gong Clan had only one Pureblood: Gong Nan!
As expected, Gong Nan appeared before Chuanmei in the next instant.
Without a word, Gong Nan seized Chuanmei’s hand and leaped into the Ice Pit.
“You should leave now,” Gong Nan said, having already reverted to her true form.
Chuanmei mentally berated herself. If I can conceal my aura, why couldn’t Gong Nan do the same? I underestimated her. But why did she act like she was suffering at the Blessed Haven Orphanage? With her power, any human would be instantly annihilated in her presence.
“Where should I go?” Chuanmei asked.
“That’s your concern, Chuanmei,” Gong Nan replied, glancing at her as if she knew everything.
Chuanmei fell silent, feeling completely exposed. Too many secrets. I don’t know which ones she’s discovered. The best course of action is to keep quiet. The more I speak, the more I reveal.
But since Gong Nan already knew her identity, there was no need to maintain her disguise. Seeing Gong Nan had already reverted to her true form, Chuanmei also revealed her true appearance.
“How did you find out?” Chuanmei decided to bluff.
Gong Nan glanced at Chuanmei with an expressionless face, saying nothing.
Gong Nan knew this was no coincidence. From their first meeting, she had sensed something strange about Chuanmei. It was mid-June, midday, and Chuanmei had entered with Third Aunt, completely dry and refreshed—an impossible feat for an ordinary person. Yet Gong Nan couldn’t detect anything unnatural about her, making the situation even more perplexing. After ruling out any heat-repelling magical artifacts, it became clear that Chuanmei was no ordinary human. For safety’s sake, Gong Nan feigned anger repeatedly, finally provoking a physical confrontation. As expected, Chuanmei was far from ordinary; her speed allowed her to evade a punch delivered with eighty percent of Gong Nan’s full strength.
One night, when Gong Nan had to go out on business, she discovered that Chuanmei, who should have been asleep, was missing from her room. This deepened Gong Nan’s suspicions and murderous intent. It wasn’t until she secretly slipped out that day and accidentally spotted a missing person advertisement.
The missing girl was also named Chuanmei, and the contact information led to the Chuan Corporation. Gong Nan immediately abandoned her murderous intent. If Chuanmei wasn’t affiliated with the Gong Clan and was connected to the Chuan Corporation, then everything made sense. After all, the Chuan Clan was a major player in the Vampire Hunter World.
