Rebirth of the Vampire's Iceberg Hunter - Chapter 10
Gong Nan strode ahead without looking back.
Chuanmei immediately followed.
Returning to Blessed Haven Orphanage now would be pointless; the source of the problem wasn’t there. Chuanmei’s plan was to find the first stop on this assembly line.
But when Gong Nan returned to Blessed Haven Orphanage and they reached their room, Chuanmei suddenly remembered the normal little boy she had completely forgotten about.
When Chuanmei opened the door, she saw two boys lying on the floor.
Two… yes, exactly two.
Chuanmei glanced at Gong Nan.
Gong Nan returned a cold stare. Chuanmei felt a surge of irritation. Why do I still feel like I’m at a disadvantage, even though I’m clearly much stronger now?
Is this like how a mouse, even after becoming a tiger, would still instinctively fear a cat?
Pah! Who’s the mouse?! I’m the cat! No, I’m the Vampire Prince!
“What do we do with them?” Chuanmei asked, her expression twisting slightly.
“Let’s take them outside first,” Gong Nan replied.
The two of them each carried a boy out of the orphanage.
“Leave them here,” Gong Nan said, glancing at the wanted poster. The missing children listed were all familiar faces.
Chuanmei noticed it too.
“The poster says these kids went missing half a year ago. But when we were there, they all claimed to have been orphans since birth,” Chuanmei said, puzzled.
Gong Nan nodded. “It means someone here has been brainwashing them.”
“Then we’ll leave these two children here. Someone will find them soon enough.”
Gong Nan nodded again.
Grumble… The sound of her stomach protesting reminded Chuanmei that she hadn’t eaten in two days.
“Let’s go,” Gong Nan said, leading the way. Chuanmei had no choice but to follow.
They stopped in front of a Wanzhou beef noodle shop, and Gong Nan walked inside.
Chuanmei felt her mood plummet. Seriously?! She was starving, and now she had to watch someone else eat for free!
“Two bowls of noodles,” Gong Nan ordered.
“I need to use the restroom,” Chuanmei said weakly. “There seems to be a public toilet over there.” There wasn’t a public toilet there, but a hospital.
After Gong Nan nodded, Chuanmei left, only to immediately scold herself. What’s wrong with me?! Why was she asking Gong Nan’s permission before doing anything? Had all the domineering spirit she possessed in her previous life leaked out after her rebirth, leaving her with none now?
Despite her internal grumbling, Chuanmei didn’t slow down.
By the time she returned, Gong Nan had already started eating.
The steaming bowl of beef noodles left Chuanmei with only one thought: Thank goodness I went to eat. Otherwise, I would have absolutely lost it in this situation!
Mentally, Chuanmei could accept the situation, but her body refused to cooperate. The aroma alone made her nauseous, on the verge of vomiting.
Yet she couldn’t refuse to eat. Though she didn’t know how much Gong Nan knew about her, she was certain Gong Nan didn’t know she was a vampire. Otherwise, she would never have been allowed to linger so close to her.
Chuanmei picked up the noodles one by one, slowly taking two bites before picking up another strand.
“Being picky? No food next time,” Gong Nan’s voice was icy.
My inner child is weeping tears as wide as noodles, Chuanmei thought. Can I just say I’m picky and skip the next meal?
Under pressure, Chuanmei forced down two large mouthfuls.
Before long, Gong Nan finished her bowl. Seeing this, the owner approached.
“Eight yuan per bowl, sixteen yuan total,” he said with a friendly smile.
Gong Nan turned to look at him, silent.
Chuanmei’s heart skipped a beat. Could it be they have no money at all? It made sense—they’d been living in the orphanage their whole lives. How could they possibly have any money?
Just as the owner was about to lose his temper, Chuanmei decisively put down her chopsticks, grabbed Gong Nan’s hand, and bolted.
The owner froze, as if unable to process that someone would dine and dash in this day and age—especially two exquisitely beautiful young girls. Wait, was there a connection between the two?
The owner chased after them, shouting, “My money for the noodles!”
But how could a middle-aged man possibly outrun two young women? They vanished from sight in moments. The owner, furious but helpless, had no choice but to give up.
Meanwhile, Chuanmei, realizing they’d shaken off the owner, stopped running.
Only then did she fully grasp what they’d done, and she burst into laughter.
Still laughing, she pointed at Gong Nan’s dark expression and exclaimed, “You actually dined and dashed!”
Gong Nan clamped a hand over Chuanmei’s mouth, snarling, “Enough!”
The physical intimacy made Chuanmei uncomfortable, especially the blood flowing through Gong Nan’s fingers pressed against her lips, which made the blood in her own veins surge with excitement.
Sensing Chuanmei had quieted down, Gong Nan released her. “If a Chuan Clan heiress isn’t afraid of losing face, why should I be?!”
So that’s what Gong Nan’s gaze meant back then, Chuanmei thought, her mood soaring now that she finally understood what Gong Nan knew. She genuinely didn’t care if others found out, and besides, her hair had grown much longer. She doubted the Chuan Clan members would recognize her now.
“Doesn’t the Gong Clan’s princess seem a bit unqualified to say that? A princess who dines and dashes will one day become the clan’s leader!” Chuanmei winked, signaling that neither of them had the upper hand. You know my secret, and I know yours.
Gong Nan fell silent, momentarily speechless.
“Fine,” Chuanmei relented. “I won’t pry into your personal affairs if you don’t pry into mine. I think our goals align for now, right?” Chuanmei still needed Gong Nan; in her previous life as a Vampire Prince, she had never needed to cultivate blood.
Gong Nan didn’t answer immediately, seeming to consider the proposal.
“Two are always better than one,” Chuanmei pressed. “And I bet you’re here for a reason, aren’t you?” Despite being just two half-grown children, their faces were more serious than anything else.
“Alright,” Gong Nan finally nodded. She couldn’t guarantee her own success, but with the Chuan Clan’s young mistress by her side, things would be much easier.
If Chuanmei had known what Gong Nan was thinking, she would have scoffed. While her current abilities were formidable, they were inextricably tied to her connection with the Chuan Clan.
“Then, Young Mistress, should we find a place to stay first?”
“That’s not urgent.”
Chuanmei glanced at her reflection: a pitiful ten-year-old girl. Gong Nan, meanwhile, maintained her usual stoic expression.
What good is this form?
“Then I’ll follow your lead. What should we do next?”
“Wait,” Gong Nan said flatly, her expression unchanging.
Chuanmei wanted to slap her senseless. Suddenly, she thought Gong Nan would have been better off as an angry young rebel than this emotionless shell.
“Wait for what? You don’t think they’ll come looking for us, do you?” Chuanmei immediately realized her mistake. After sending one batch of people away, they’d need another, and the only source for that was capture.
Gong Nan saw Chuanmei’s realization. “Change your appearance. You’re worth five million now.” She gestured for Chuanmei to turn around.
Confused, Chuanmei turned to see a photo of herself. Well, not exactly her. Chuanmei couldn’t recall ever wearing a frilly princess dress. She curled her lip in a sardonic smile. So valuable, huh? Five million.
Gong Nan noticed Chuanmei’s fleeting sarcasm but said nothing. To her, Chuanmei was merely a collaborator; she had no interest in her personal affairs.
Chuanmei stomped her foot, instantly transforming into an androgynous child.
“What about you? Don’t tell me they’d come after you with that tiny frame?!” Chuanmei’s temper flared.
Gong Nan merely glanced at her, her body slowly shrinking until she was the same size as Chuanmei.
